Thai Time Restaurant

Category: Thai

4.0 star rating

Right away I liked the location and the fact that it doesn't have excessive decorations: they keep it low key but attractive, if you are dressed to go out afterword you will not seem out of place, and if you are dressed down for a relaxed evening you will not feel self-conscious.

Bonus points: it is one of the few establishments that open on a Sunday near the DT Binghamton area. YAY!

Restroom: Spacious, clean, also attractive -muy importante. There is only one though so on crowded nights you might have to wait to use it. The good thing is that I live about 4 blocks away, I can always run home. Other customers might not have that advantage. Yet another reason for you to move DT.

Tables: nicely distributed, we took one by the front window.

Service: very pleasant, our server had to look up the items that we were ordering which made the process kind of slow but I imagine that as she becomes more experienced she will be superb.

The food: I ordered the Lard Nah with chicken. It is typically not a spicy dish but I ordered it with 4 stars of heat out of five. Although the first bite I took made my face red the rest was hot enough to cause me that pleasant pain that I associate with eating Thai food. The sauce was good (not greasy) and the portion was of a good size -enough to feed a good appetite but not so large that I would overeat and then feel horrible about myself. It was so good that had it been larger I would have continued to eat it even if I had been full, so I am glad it was just perfect.

My husband ordered the Thai Chili with chicken. The flavor was a pleasant melange of sweet and sour. The chunks of pineapple made it a very refreshing dish.

One of our friends ordered the Pad Thai and we all tasted it, it was good though I missed the lime wedges that other restaurants serve it with to add a bit of tang.  Another one of our friends ordered a coconut based curry also with chicken, which in my opinion was the star of our evening. I will order that dish next time.

The bill: affordable. We each paid about 11 dollars for our dinner plus taxes and tip. Since they don't have their liquor license so you can bring your own wine or your own beer or both making it even more affordable.

My best friend took my husband and me to this place. She raved and said they had the "best hamburgers E-VER!".  I thought she was just being enthusiastic but I have to say, I don't remember having a hamburger as good as theirs, and the thin french fries were just irresistible.  I look forward to going to father's office again, my heart be damned!

Walked in and greeted the cashier, she did not reply and gave us a blank stare. We ordered a jerk chicken sandwich and were greatly disappointed. It wasn't so terrible that we couldn't eat it, but it was more than mediocre. I imagine that's because being on a bar strip, they count on people being at least tipsy when they eat. Unfortunately, my husband and I were sober. The sandwich had very thin slices of chicken drowned in mayo. It reminded me of the food that airlines used to distribute for free on national flights...  We ate the sandwich because we were famished and kept our disappointment to ourselves.

When we left we politely thanked the staff and said good night, again, we got nothing but silence and blank stares. One star for mediocre food and terrible service.

The service was great, very friendly. In a time when service is impersonal and customers are made to feel like cattle, the friendly smiles and personalized service were greatly appreciated. Most of all, I appreciated that this hotel is pet friendly. Before I arrived I worried that the room would smell of pets from the past, but the room (as is the rest of the hotel) was impecable. I generally don't sign up to loyalty clubs, but in this case I did.

Love it! I have no clue what to do with hardware, but I still love to shop there whenever I have a problem that I need to solve. The people at Kovarik are extremely helpful and with a simple description of whatever it is that I am experiencing with something house related, they always direct me to a solution. Well, even if you just need a copy of your house keys you should go there. I am convinced that their existence enhances my community and I thank them for helping me feel at home in a city that is not mine by birth but that is deeply lodged in my heart. Love the prices too!

The Madison

My fiance and I wanted to share our experience at The Madison, a Washington, D.C. hotel at which we stayed last weekend after booking a reservation through Hotwire.

While the hotel was very comfortable and exceedingly well-situated, we were woken up at 7:00am on Saturday and Sunday morning by the hotel's union representatives and members, who were outside protesting the hotel management's recent decision to redo the union contract. The trouble wasn't  that the protesters woke us up as much as that we support their cause. Therefore, we not only felt uncomfortable remaining in the hotel for the rest of our stay in D.C. (it's difficult to find an affordable hotel at the drop of a hat -we are on a budget), but also came to feel reluctant about booking a hotel through Hotwire unless the website can provide some means of knowing whether a hotel--or other service provider--is facing a public conflict, with a union or otherwise. Might that be possible? I would hope and trust so, but after contacting Hotwire to express our concerns all we got was a form letter.

I will not stay at the Madison again; it is difficult to rest knowing that the workers are getting screwed over and that I am participating in unfair labor practices, never mind the fact that I like to rest on the weekends and instead I woke up early and with a guilty conscience.

Given the good experiences I've had with Hotwire in the past I will give them another chance, but if I encounter this sort of situation again I am going to go haywire.

Chameleon Cafe

I'm wondering if the place changed owners?  I thought that it was called Chameleon Lounge... Anyhow, I had been there before and though an odd place, I enjoyed the huge fruity la-la drinks that my friends and I ordered.  We went several times and had a good time.  I went back after not having been there in quite a while, I brought friends who had never been there and oh the disappointment! oh the embarrassment! I am fairly laid back so it's not like I was expecting my cocktails to be spectacular, but undrinkable? My margarita tasted like some chemical imitation of tequila and my friend E's pomegranate martini tasted like anything but a pomegranate martini.  My boyfriend ordered a beer so he was fine. My friend J ordered a gin and tonic and it was barely passable.  My friend A ordered a dirty martini and it was terrible.  We didn't have any other place to go to at that hour so we played 2 games.  The first one was a contest to see who had the worst drink.  My friend A won.  The 2nd game was "categories" and whoever lost had to take a sip of the dirty martini, it was that bad! i can't possibly describe the taste, just know that we used it as punishment.  It didn't even have an olive! Oh well.  I am all for second chances, perhaps it was a bad night, but it will be a great while before I go again.  Hope the food is good because the drinks were not their strong suit.

Woo-hoo! feels like summer is eternal at the Tiki Bar!  Well... not quite
-but the stuffed lions and tigers, along with the fake-straw-hut-like umbrellas sure take care of cabin fever and the winter blues.  Granted, having a heater blowing dry air right above your head is not exactly the same as being in say... Mazatlan, but it is fun to go there anyway.  Every two weeks or so my friends and I have a girls night out and visit.  The first time we went we were really happy to see that the tables have a basket full of salted peanuts in their shell, which we proceeded to attack right away. All four of us are OCD to varying degrees and each one of us built a very neat pile of peanut shells.  When the waitress came with our pitcher of Blue Moon she saw the piles and told us to throw them on the floor!  yes! on the floor!

We reluctantly did it, shy at first, but then we went crazy with it -we would never have that freedom at our homes- peanut shells all over! Yes!!! And that was it. Love at first date. We love the place, the peanuts, the beer, the stuffed animals and the fake-straw-hut-like umbrellas.

PS They have very good chicken wings and the staff is very friendly.

The staff and the facilities were great.  I believe that this could be the best therapy and this is why: a certain fear has prevented me from advancing my degree at a steady pace, so  I figured that if I went sky diving and didn't splatter all over the ground, I could certainly get over my fears and get on with my work.  After all, few things are riskier than having a parachute not open when you are 9500 feet above the ground.  One of my friends signed us up and up we went.  My tandem master (i think that's what they are called) was gentle and reassuring.  I jumped first with this guy strapped to my back and after the most terrifying 35 seconds of my life -is that how people feel when they jump off a building?, I had the pleasure of floating in the most silent and still landscape I have ever seen.  The seven minutes it took us to descend  were peaceful and cleared my mind.  I remember the experience even though no thought crossed my mind as I looked around in amazement.  I highly recomend the experience and the company; the fact that I'm posting this will attest to the safety of their equipment and performance :)

I am so happy to have a sushi restaurant down town! and a good one at that....  the service was friendly and the food was good.   I ordered the Hot Mountain (I like it spicy as hell) and was quite satisfied with the taste and the portion.   I have been there about 5 times. The first time I went there was for the preview dinner: I had some steak that made me wish I could eat meat more than once every three months. they make great martinis too.
