After visiting another in-town barber shop the Sunday before, my husband was eager to try another place. This is the 2nd of 2 places recommended to me by fellow Marines & their spouses. We didn't come to this place the weekend before because it is further from our apartment, but it was 100% worth the drive across town!

We arrived right as they opened on Sunday. The inside is clean, comfortable, and everyone was very welcoming & friendly. The big TVs and selection of magazines ensures that you won't be bored while you wait - or chat with the fellow patrons. My husband got a high-reg from Sara & says it is the best haircut he's ever gotten since he became a Marine - even better than the folks at Parris Island!

Hubby's haircut was $9, and for an extra $2, she straight-razored the lower part of his head - definitely worth the extra cost. Finally, once the barber is done, you can get a free shampoo & moisturizer applied to prevent razor bumps & ensure you don't have any random hairs still clinging to you.

Summary: wonderful business who know their stuff - especially Sara! Hubby will be getting his weekly regulation haircuts done here every week from now on :)

This is one of the two places recommended to me for my husband to get his haircut (ask you probably guessed, he is a Marine). We came in on Sunday about 30 minutes after they opened & were able to get his haircut right away. For $6, it was a good cut, but they did just an OK job - the sides were just trimmed a bit, not shaved all the way down. Also, the stylists/barbers didn't really seem very interested in any of their customers - they simply continued to talk among themselves about their lives & inside jokes.

A good price, to be sure, but my husband & I won't be coming back.

While this is yet another fast food chain, they have the best burgers you'll find in 29 Palms. Food here does cost a little bit more than McDonald's or Burger King (which are also in-town), but burgers here taste much more fresh. Of course, they do have salads & other, healthier stuff, but most folks come for the burgers - and you won't be disappointed. Bonus: they have waffle fries, which wins extra points in my book. I've eaten here at least 5 times & the customer service is always friendly and swift, and the dining room is pretty clean (never used the drive-up).

If the hotel on-base is all booked up, this is where I stay. They offer prices closest to those of the base hotel, though you have to pay even more for a room with a kitchenette (which I haven't done, so I can't comment on that).

The rooms are large & clean, and the bathroom is much nicer than the hotel rooms at the base hotel, with the beds being slightly more comfortable as well. There is a nice selection at the free breakfast (6 am to 9 am) & the wi-fi seems a bit faster than the base hotel. FYI: you have to request a username & password from the front desk to get into the wi-fi (still free though!)

Whether you are in-town to visit someone on-base or just to enjoy the local festivals/scenery, this is a good place to stay & one of the most affordable options around.

Over the course of 5 months, I've stayed here nearly 10 times - in other words, I'm a regular ;) No matter how you slice it, this place is the most affordable hotel in 29 Palms, yet offers many of the amenities the more expensive places offer, along with courteous customer service.

My favorite amenity is the kitchenette in each room. The hotel is right across the street from the Commissary, so getting ingredients is very convenient. Want to do some grilling? You can get free charcoal from the office (yet another way to save $$$).

If you are visiting the Marine Corps base in 29 Palms, this is THE PLACE to stay - the most affordable & the most convenient. Important note: depending on the time of year/upcoming holidays, rooms can book up more than 2 weeks in advance, so be sure to call ahead!

I've been to this location numerous times - to get change to do laundry, make deposits, & get assistance with my account. Every time I've come, the employees have been friendly & helpful. Yes, sometimes the line to see a teller is long, but that's the reality at just about any Navy Fed branch (depending on the time of day you visit). What I do know is that every time I come into this branch, I leave with a smile on my face :)

We bought my husband his 1st pair of Vibrams here. The only way to find a bigger selection of Vibrams is to drive all the way to Palm Springs, so this is THE PLACE if you are in/near 29 Palms (where my husband was stationed for training with the Marine Corps at the time). We were greeted & offered assistance right away. The employee who took care of us was very well-informed about Vibrams & helped us find a pair that was just right for the local terrain. They also had a healthy selection of Injinji (toe) socks, with everything at reasonable prices. Helpful service, informed employees & good prices - doesn't get any better! :)

OK - it's a grocery store. How much is there to say about it? This is certainly the closest alternative to shopping at the Commissary on-base & pretty much the only other choice in 29 Palms. That being said, it is a great grocery store with a big selection, good prices, & friendly customer service. Anytime I've asked an employee a question or walked up to the check out, I've gotten a smile, a nice greeting & quick, courteous help. If the Commissary is closed (or you don't have base access), this is the best place in town to go for groceries - period.

My husband & I visited for the 1st time during 4th of July weekend - needless to say, they were busy & there was hardly anywhere to sit, but we kinda expected that. There's a good variety of ramen options on the menu, along with a few side dishes. The lady at the counter was very nice & the food was prepared quickly. The food itself tasted very fresh & was delicious - but not as good as our favorite ramen place in San Francisco (the flavors don't really blend together, though still very tasty). Important note: CASH ONLY!

On my regular visits to see my husband during his training in 29 Palms, we'd always order from Papa John's on Sunday nights. Every time, the pizza has arrived hot & fresh, with a good amount of toppings. The drivers/delivery people have always been courteous & friendly. Important note: if you are having your food delivery to base (or the hotel on-base), it will take at least 1 hour (had to find that out the hard way).
