Dear Delicious,

Thanks for making my mouth burst with each and every bit of your perfect bread, cheddar cheese, apple butter (ya, I said it), bacon and tomato grilled cheese sandwich. Your mouth-watering, sweet, savory and melty combo made me  **"mmmm , ahhhh" and shimmy my shoulders with every bite.

I just now realized you forgot my tomato request, but who cares? I didn't even realize until you were on your way to splitsville! I'm so sorry for asking you to change! I solemnly swear, that I will NEVER again think that you need something "extra". If I do, I promise to create my own stupid sandwich (that will most likely resemble an ol' lady's swimsuit area) that won't even compare.

I think I'm in Love,

Jessi.

**This is what I do instinctively when in complete mouth-watering bliss.

Last Wednesday was girl's night and is the first of many, where I will eat my little body through Portland and then give my (much anticipated) 2 cents.

To start, we ordered chicken Sopitas which were moist, delicious and a definite flavor savior. Thinking the tapas might be on the small side, we also ordered the light and tasty Beet and Avocado Salad.  YUM! Both appetizers were large enough for two and had us full. Because of our small minded mind-set that everything would be tiny, we also ordered two Halibut tacos (which we agreed were just eh and needed something more...like lime?) and the Asada Enchiladas to share as an entrée.  We actually never received our entrée, but because we were delightfully full from everything else, plus my 2 Cadillac Margaritas (which were fucking good. Tart and strong without the usage of sweet n' sour) and her Spanish wines, we were fine with the honest mistake but sad that we couldn't at least try them...

My disses:

1) Smelled like feet. I don't know if it was the actual restaurant or the 2 hippies behind friend that stunk. But it stunk, and I quickly had to make myself get over it.
2) *We never received our entrée. However, the waitress was so apologetic that she offered to make it to-go and instead paid for one of our appetizers.
*Not really a diss but a "awww man".

Side Note: to the 2 gentleman sitting (very closely) behind me.
When a lady (me) walks away and returns to elbow perched on chair with no acknowledgment that she has returned, and then has to gently tap you politely and ask to sit back down (in HER chair), I do believe it's considered rude to not make eye contact, shoo her and tell her to "go ahead" without moving abovementioned elbow.
Fuck you, you middle-aged fuck.

I'm not going to go into details of my love affair with rontoms. If you know me, you know it's a frequent hang out of mine and probably should come with me. I've been able to drag a handful of friends (kicking and screaming) with me at one point or another. And on all occasions, they seemed to enjoy themselves. I have my favorite times to go and it's no secret that it doesn't include late-nights, weekends or event nights. Except of course for Black Elk and Red Fang...I digress.

This place is so rad there was an album put out to prove it.
21 bands (that frequent The Club) and 21 songs about (duh) Club 21.

"The Mercury office is in no man's land as far as dining options go. For as many great mom 'n' pop markets, delis, and restaurants as this city has, we're stuck amid soda bottling warehouses, the KATU building, and a lot of houses. Thank god, then, for Club 21 with its stiff drinks, loveable servers, and great food. A longtime Mercury favorite, the Club is also popular with Portland music-makers..Fuck yeah. indeed..."

Spoons Soup Cart

 Update - 1/16/2009
I can't help myself. What started off to be "just another day at Spoons" became what I believe to be the best wrap I've had. Like, EVER. It's the Ultimate Veggie (I had it with Avocado and Chicken), and it's basically like a Greek salad but with some secret green sauce (not the avocado), and roasted red peppers. The chicken was tasty (not fatty), all the veggies were ultra-fresh, the ingredients didn't overpower the others and it was light but filling.
I don't know if it's because I haven't been drinking for awhile, sleeping better and  it's a fucking gorgeous day or the combo of it all, but this was like a little piece of heaven (that doesn't exist) in my mouth.  It was pretty perfect.  Plus, this shit was large (not too large), and I feel it has something to do with the following encounter last week, when I ordered the same thing:
Me: Um, hi. I'll have the U.V. w/ A.C. please
Me and Smiles:  How bout that snow, huh? Crazy, right? Ya, so...
In My Mind: (Nice smile, nice smile, nice smile, teeth, nice teeth, smile, teeth...Eyes)
Me: All the soups are from scratch, riiiight?
Smiles: Oh, ya.
Wrap is handed over by Smiles and I exclaim (loudly) "Oh my God, it's BIG"! This results in an awkward silence between us; until I stammer "see ya" and take off.
A. I don't get embarrassed easily and I blushed (which is rare)
B. Pretty certain that's why my wrap was even bigger this time around (cuz it can't be this big all the time)
C. I think Smiles is trying to tell me a little somethin', somethin'

Disclaimer: I like to make up situations in my head that either lead to imaginary make-outs and/or makes my day a little more entertaining for myself and others...Please go to Spoons and eat your face off!

Thank you and Good Day.

This shit's for real. Like oh-so-good. In my extraordinary opinion, I believe this is by far the healthiest/yummiest/ fresh-est cart in Portland. Don't get me wrong, I love me some burritos and falafel but, I'm just sayin, I go here more often than not.

Chili? Forget about it. This is made with L-O-V-E. Silky-smooth layas of flayva, spicy and chunky. It's so good I tried to replicate this shit 3 days later. Mission Impossible (I'm now in the process of getting the adorable man behind the metal curtain to show me how it's done).

Soups: yet to try one I didn't like.

Oregon Seasonal Salad: Whatever, I've had this like 7 times and it is what it is. Pears, creamy Bleu Cheese, Hazelnuts....It's huge. $5.50. With bread. And a side of smile with nice chompers to boot.

Whisper voice: Sometimes I'll even spend an extra buck fifty and get some soup on the side to have the next day. Get over it.

Although I haven't had everything (I have an addictive personality) the price, soups, service and gorgeous smile is what keeps me coming back.

Coffee Plant

I go to coffee plant every dang day of the week and I love them. My latte is usually ready by the time I pay (so, thank you!). Not only that, I tried one of their sammy's today and it was delicious! I had the ham, swiss, tomato and spinach and it was jam packed with goodness! Um, YUM!

Although I've encountered individuals who believe the staff is somehow shitty I have to say, I just don't see it. I've conversed with every last one of em' and they all have been genuine, funny and friendly. Maybe those individuals should go to Coffee People down the street? Just a suggestion...Why would you believe someone like me (who has taste)?

Hugs and Kisses!
Jessi

Extracto oozes portland. Even though I'm not a huge fan of children and the children that seem to be banging and screaming, I am a huge fan of the staff and coffee. If you time it right, you could end up being there for hours. I love people watching here and although sometimes the art is "crappy outsider art", there occasionally is a diamond in the rough.

The owners are wonderful and have a real passion for what they do (former member of Portland band "Pond"). They are consistent in the quality, art and treatment to their coffee and customers.

I love you, Extracto.

Not sure what the fuss is all about. Do you think that just because the place might be poppin' and it got a bit o' hype, it must be good? I've tried it twice, and by god, if it wasn't some eh' ingredients on top of ketchup. Seriously. The space is nice, but I don't get it. The antipasto was overpriced and the caprese pizza was mediocre at best.

Come hither my tiny sheep, follow suburbia to shit-town.

220 Salon

MELISSA DORRES has been doing my hairs for like, 10yrs now. Yikes. Girls got style and knows what she's doing with her magical shears. The salon itself is small and comfortable while at the same time pretty much stocked full of beautiful people 5 days a week.

I digress, Melissa has everything you want in a hairdresser. She listens, pampers, has vision and there's a very soothing, confident way she handles herself that makes YOU feel confident she's got it. At the same time, she's energetic, excited and passionate about what she does (which makes my little body, quite jealous).  She also will take your ideas, combine em with a little touch of her creativity and probably blow your mind in the end.

So go in and see this talented, hot mama. I promise you won't regret it and you'll probably be like, thanking me for saving your hairs one strand at a time. You'll also most likely feel obligated to  buy me cocktails (while complimenting me on my fantastic hair wishing you woulda thought of it first). Just sayin.
