Cute selection of clothes, jewelry and little gifts in a charming house on Abbot Kinney. They have a great, well-edited mix of items that range from high end to affordable. (Yay!) If you're looking for unique jewelry, whether a gold-plated pistol necklace or a delicate chain with precious stones, this is your place. Very helpful staff, too.

My favorite Korean BBQ spot in K-town. The waiter we call Justin is great about pointing us to new things to try and even brings us a few surprises from the kitchen from time to time, from sesame leaves (a great alternative to lettuce) to kimchi pancakes. Really fresh panchan, too - some "safe" options for the squeamish but options for the more adventurous, as well. Highly recommend Parks - and Justin - for anyone new to Korean BBQ.

Dave's Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

Beige carpets and two dogs meant we had filthy carpeting after 2+ years of use. Dave's team came out today and made them look like new - even the high-traffic spots, including the stairs. Pedro and Raul were professional, thorough and quick, and even called to let me know they would be running a bit late. (Which wasn't a problem, as I told them I was flexible.) I would highly recommend Dave's team to anyone.

I've been seeing Sasha for cut and color for almost a year now, and I can't believe I'm only now writing her up. She knows my hair better than I do, and I always get compliments on her work. Unlike any other stylist I've had before, she remembers the details about me - which way my hair parts, where I'm battling a cowlick, how I like my hair to fall. This sort of knowledge is invaluable, and I trust her completely.

As for Studio DNA itself, it's friendly and very stylish with great products. I always love how my hair smells when I leave. They also offer the occasional blow-drying class. I went to one in the summer and highly recommend it - I got all sorts of useful tips and techniques.

Willi's Seafood & Raw Bar

We wandered over to Willi's after a short day of wine tasting. I forgot that we could call ahead for a table, but we were seated soon enough and quickly dove into a dozen oysters, and a sampling from the menu of small plates.

The group of four of us loved the uni and scallop macaroni, the spinach, the tuna tartare with coconut milk (yummers) and the fondue -- oooh the fondue with Fritos. Thumbs up on the Asian-style salmon and the cheese plate as well.

Only two minor complaints: the brussels sprouts could have been cooked a little longer, and we just wish the shrimp had been peeled.

All in all, we left feeling like we had a wide variety of food and plenty of it, and at a fair price, too. I'd recommend Willi's to anyone.

It can be a little loud for a get-to-know-each-other kind of dinner, but we had a great time trying new things on the menu - wild boar red curry pot pie, for instance. I love the ambiance, especially on the outdoor patio, and people tend to dress more nicely here than at other spots in the vicinity. Our table went with the aforementioned pot pie (and loved it), venison, pork chop and lamb. Everyone was pleased with their choices and we left planning to come back for one of the Sunday night BBQs.

Big praise to the wine director for pointing us to a great (and fairly affordable considering the rest of their wine list) Spanish red, Odyssey, to go with our meal. She did a great job helping us find something that appealed to our tastes and budget.

Amarone Kitchen & Wine

I heard really great things about Amarone, but I wasn't especially impressed with the spot. First off, it tries very hard to pull off a sort of romantic vibe, but the upstairs dining room is so closely packed in, it ruins the vibe. Add to that the parade of waitstaff getting into each other's way in the narrow space between the tables, and any illusion of ambiance is lost.
Started with the ahi tuna tartare appetizer. A little round of diced tuna and avocado comes in the middle of a huge plate - too big for our tiny two-person table - and I found it to be a little too bland. Some tiny garnishes of sun-dried tomatoes, basil and I think olives helped a bit.
We went with pasta for entrees; I had the shrimp pasta with zucchini. The pasta was slightly undercooked, but it was full of shrimp and julienned zucchini and squash.
A nice touch: bread (including a flatbread) is served with a plate of olives, roasted red peppers and cheese.

Nook has become our go-to spot whenever we're in the mood for a nice dinner in a low-key (but stylish) spot. It's great when out-of-towners are visiting, and its burger is pretty much comparable to what you'd get at Father's Office. But everything I've sampled from their menu is good - the pork belly appetizer, the pork chop, the chicken paillard and the hangar steak with frites. The frites were perfectly fried on our last visit - crunchy and hot, with potatoey goodness. And the shrimp with grits and linguisa sausage...wow. It's incredible. Seriously.
Props to the awesome waitstaff, too.

Went here for breakfast, yum. It's cafe-style which means you just order at the bar, and pretty casual. I think it's genius that they load the bar up with yummy pastries and a few savory items. That way you're tempted to indulge in a pear tart while you're waiting for your roasted tomato and burrata sandwich or fried egg sandwich.

Nice wine list, too.

Bad, bad Mexican food. Bad frozen margaritas. (I know, what was I thinking?) But the kitschy red Naugahyde booths and uber-cool piano bar earned this place two stars.
