I'm so glad this place is across the street from my doctor's office.  I usually just come here for the cheap buffet before or after an appointment, but I randomly stumbled upon the South Indian portion of their menu.  I haven't had good South Indian food in the District since Amma in Georgetown closed its doors.  The North Indian buffet is passable, but OH MY GOD...the DOSAS!  So tasty.  I had the Mysore Masala Dosa, and it came with authentic tasting coconut chutney/chumney and a spicy vegetable sambar.  Paired my meal with the Punjabi Tea/chai.  I felt like I was visiting a dosa place in Kerala again.  The masala filling could have been a little less salty, but I bet that's something that can probably be fixed if I ask about it when I order the next time.  Speaking of next time - I'm going tonight for dinner.  Tandoori Time, you've made this homesick South Indian girl very happy.

3 and a quarter stars now.

We've been here several times now (I think my hubby is "Mayor" of the place on 4square now, lol).  Still quaint little hangout when it's not packed with tourists, but I will have to say my pho broth has been a bit too salty the last two times.  Still generally tasty - I feel bad for the last two reviewers because it seems like they came on a bad night.  For the most part, we are usually pleased with the food and it's not that awful.

Yay! Good Pho in D.C.!  My husband and I came here for the first time yesterday, and we were very pleased.  Before our Pho standby in the District was Nam Viet in Cleveland Park, but I'm surprised to say we actually prefer the broth and overall taste of the noodles and meat at Noodles on 11.  The Pho Chin was great - the beef brisket was very tender.  I do agree with the other commentators that we could get a little more meat, but overall, we really enjoyed the taste of the Pho, the appetizer of Kaneeb Jeeb was yummy, and the servers were super nice and helpful.  The decor and ambiance is cool, too - love colors, and next time we're sitting by the window.  This was such a good rainy day spot.

The smoked salmon in my Nova Scotia (poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce on the side on a English muffin) was a bit too salty, as if someone just felt like sprinkling sea salt on it just cuz, but everything else was great.  Deee-licious bloody marys with a sufficient kick, my fave in the District, and the coffee's pretty good, too.  The restaurant has a nice cozy ambiance, even though it's not necessarily cozy-small.

i just wanted to take a moment to rave about the brand new waitstaff (it was self-service before) and the fact that they now have a full bar menu, complete with my favorite premium Indian beer - Kingfisher.

Am I thrilled that my bill has gone up a bit now that i have to pay for tip, considering this was my usual no-frills, "hole-in-the-wall," comfort-food place? Not particularly, but that doesn't matter because they are making great efforts in improving the ambiance, service, and overall experience.  The waitstaff are super attentive and nice, and nothing goes better with a hot plate of a ginormous amount of yummy desi food than a nicely chilled, refreshing and crisp glass of Kingfisher.  Sure, it's pricier than American beer, but that's because it's awesome, and harder to get.

This is still a no-frills place compared to Rasika or other fancy-shmancy desi restaurants, but as long as you don't expect the moon, you WILL be pleasantly surprised.  Just be aware that because of the change in service/atmosphere, there will be inevitable kinks  - i.e. the mad rush D.C. experienced during the MCM/Howard Homecoming/Sanity Fear-weekend.  All the restaurants here were SLAMMED with 2-hour or so waits - cut them a break!

Definitely the best, unpretentious place to get your fix of Indian/Pakastani food, cooked with sincerity.  My husband and I have been coming here for years.  It's not super-duper gourmet or anything like that, but the staff are very nice, on point, and the food is very flavorful (just be careful when you order spicy, because they mean it...maybe even moreso if you're desi like me!).

Aaaaaand....guess what!! They just remodeled the place to fit in a brand spanking new bar!  Apparently they just got a liquor license, and will start serving alcohol tomorrow.  Booze + unpretentious desi food = HEAVEN.

    YAY!

P.S.  If you like authentic chai, not the western, over-sweetened, overspiced, weak crap, order the Punjabi Tea!  They make it on the spot, and it's piping hot.

P.P.S.  The buffet is fine if you're not a "foodie" and just want something quick, fast, and comforting.  If you have a more discerning palate, ordering from the menu is the way to go, even though you may not get as much food as the buffet.  You can customize the spice level and the food will taste F-R-E-S-H!  And fresh, made-on-premises naan come with both menu and buffet orders.

Just wanted to let everyone know that they changed the size of the margarita glasses a while ago - much smaller.  And they're no longer $5 bucks a pop...more like $6 something.  Still, if you order them at the bar, and you don't piss the bartender off, you're likely to get a nice strong and tasty drink anyway.

My husband and I have become Friday happy hour regulars.  Love the $5 mangoritas and pomegranate margaritas in HUGE glasses.  Strong and tasty and just three of them (really I could stop at 2), ends our week on a happy note and in a lovely drunken stupor.  The Bangkok Wings are cheap and tasty, too...although I have a bit of cognitive dissonance when it comes to the accompanying dipping sauce.  The sauce is decent but smells awful.  Oh well - still a fun happy hour place and the bartenders, waitstaff and owner are very friendly.

Used Pet Peeps again for Labor Day weekend - Cristina was our petsitter this time.  She was just as fabulous as the others, and I appreciated how she texted me the evening we returned to D.C., even though we had only scheduled one visit for earlier that morning, just so she can make sure we arrived home okay and that I got my key back.  Very cool!

I'm so ashamed for not writing this review earlier.   Pet Peeps is a godsend!  I used their pet-sitting services for the first time for two separate occasions this past July, and after having a very bad experience with another pet sitting service, I was very hesitant and nervous.  Thankfully, Gus and his exemplary staff put my fears to rest.  I was so surprised and appreciative of how thorough the initial consult was, and I could definitely see that not only does Gus care about his clients and their pets, but he makes it a point to match the best sitters for the task at hand.  I know I'm probably a bit of a high-maintenance cat owner with all the very specific food and other directions I gave, but that was no problem, and everything was taken in stride.

Paulo was awesome, texting me every time he took care of my two cats, and according to my security guards, he was very prompt and stayed for each entire session.  Sharon was fantastic, too - I can DEFINITELY tell she is a cat person and takes pride in what she does.  She would send me picture mail message every day of the cats being silly and whatnot.   She also gets a +1 for sharing my name. ;-)

Very happy with Pet Peeps, and I'll be using them again very soon!

These five stars are really just for the "Super Grilled Cheese".  I love it so much, I want to marry it.  Seriously, it's like ecstasy on buttery Texas toast with bacon, tomato and fresh red onions.  And lots of gooey, wonderful, delicious cheese.

Had a great, great time at D.I.K. last night.

My husband and two of my girlfriends met up at the restaurant for some appetizers and pre-karaoke drinks before heading upstairs.  The appetizers - mussels in white wine sauce, fried ravioli, mozzarella sticks, and fried calamari were all tasty...at least I killed my bowl of mussels (and the bread).  No-frills, but decent. The drinks downstairs were okay...one of my girlfriends had bad luck with all of her drink orders for some reason (her mixed drinks were too weak/too much sour mix in the margarita), but everyone else's drinks were fine.

We picked this place because it was the only place that had karaoke in the District on a Saturday that wasn't in Adams Morgan (yuck), didn't have a room minimum, and didn't have awful reviews.  It wasn't a big deal that the upstairs happened to have a majority gay crowd, although it was kind of humorous that several people approached me, thrilled that I brought my [straight] husband and that we were "cool".  It also helped that everyone was really cheering everyone else on while they sang, no matter how good or not-so-good they were.  The bartenders were really friendly and made excellent drinks, and every time I stepped out onto the roof deck, I was guaranteed a good conversation with some of the regulars.  Great night!

My husband and I got our first tattoos ever today - Gilda did them, and she was awesome!  Very professional, very talented, and answered all of our questions/made us feel very at ease.  I've gotten a few of my piercings done at Fatty's before, and Jason is also very professional and talented.  Great work!  We're really happy.

We took our two newly adopted cats to see Dr. Gross today.  She is awesome, and so is the rest of the staff.  You can tell that they all love and really care and are very knowledgeable about animals, and they took great care of our kitties.  I liked the fact that the vet techs were so patient while applying Soft Paws claw covers on our cats, even though the cats didn't really make it easy for them.  A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.
