12/27/11 So, they now have more classes and the ones where you pay are only $3.00. Which is a little better. Saturday classes are free and they just added zumba in the morning on Saturday.
There was vague mention that monthly rates would go up by the end of my yearly membership, maybe (again, it was vague) -- as long as that doesn't happen, I'll be coming back to this place for a long time. Especially since it's right up the street from me.
We'll seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee .
**UPDATE** 10/22/11
Two of the groovy yoga instructors from Santosha Space emailed me. One of them said that Tara's 6AM Tuesday and Sunday 10AM yoga class would still be free in November, too. Hopefully, this is true and at least these two classes stay free!
***UPDATE*** 10/15/11
Received the new schedule from the front desk. Yup, all yoga classes will definitely NOT be free in November. This makes me really, truly sad. I've expressed my sadness to management, and just haven't received a response back.
I just had the 8:30AM class with Jessica and really liked it. My friend wanted to join this gym for the yoga and other free classes, but from the looks of the Santosha Space site it seems like yoga's a separate thing entirely (except for maybe two classes on the schedule 6AM Yoga with Tara and 10AM Yoga with Tara, but then again, the schedule is quite confusing). I'm thinking I may just cancel my membership and do yoga through the Santosha Space thing. Haven't decided yet.
As for other free classes that were pitched to us when we signed up. Currently on the schedule there's Indoor Cycle, Kickboxing, Circuit Boxing, Cardio Sculpt, 6 Pack Abs. The only problem with the majority of these classes? They're mostly in the middle of the day. The only free class I can now go to will be Indoor Cycle 8:30AM on Sundays.
Definitely feel like they just said whatever they could to get me to join. Don't feel like I can trust them at all.
Definitely am very bummed, considering I like the class space and it's right next door to me.
I guess I can try to contact management again, but at this point I feel like it won't do anything. After every class other gym-goers have expressed concern about what's going on. They received the same sales pitch. Free yoga classes.
Since there are so many gym-goers confused and upset about the yoga classes no longer being free you would hope that the gym would listen and honor their word. But I guess they don't really care about the customer.

THE BELOW REVIEW WAS FROM EARLIER IN THE WEEK:
I've tried emailing and asking the front desk and can't get a straight answer out of anyone about whether all the yoga classes will have extra fees. I'm fine with some of the classes having extra fees, as long as there are a few "free" classes where all you need is the gym membership.
When I signed up for the gym these free yoga and basic classes were a specific selling point. When a 6AM yoga class was added, as well as a 10AM Sunday yoga class and Saturday morning 8:30AM yoga class I was thrilled. The times worked perfectly for my crazy schedule. Plus, this gym is close to my house. Perfect. And what a deal! Yoga so close for the gym membership fee. Awesome.
But now two weeks into classes there are signs at the front desk saying yoga is not free? But only some classes?
What's going on? All I want is an answer. It's becoming clear from the lack of response that no one really cares about the customer. At least that's what it feels like. Every front desk person I ask is confused about what's specifically going on with the yoga classes. I think a team meeting may be an order, no? Fellow gym-goers are confused, too. No one knows what's going on. I dig Tara as a yoga instructor. I find the class relaxing and helpful and detoxing. So why would you give us something for free and have it be groovy and then say, "Oh, just kidding. You have to pay?" No, thanks. I'll just go hike in Griffith Park instead.
The whole thing just seems really disorganized.
I feel bad putting this on Yelp, but this is my true, honest opinion. I know this place is starting out, but I will be really bummed if those three classes cost extra at the end of the month. It would be nice to get a response to my questions as I need to know if I should cancel my membership or not. Ha. That's probably why they aren't answering. Because these classes are totally going to cost extra.
Just got an email back saying the Saturday morning class is only free this month. Lame. It's funny that that one short email was answered but all my other emails are ignored.
So, I'll keep updating on here. Seeing their response. Guess I'll ask again next time I'm in the gym. The people of this fair neighborhood should know. Right?
::crickets::
1 less star because this has been quite frustrating. I feel like I'm totally imposing whenever I ask a question or send an email to these guys. Or they just say they don't know in a friendly way.
Just give us some free classes at decently scheduled times for the working folks, you know? Doesn't seem that much to ask? And if it IS that hard, then you shouldn't have used free yoga classes as a selling point. I feel cheated and scammed.
Would I get an answer if I said I'd give this place four stars on yelp if those yoga classes and some other basic classes were free? Would that help? Seriously?
Man, I need a drink. Mmm, drink. See, Metro Fitness? Look what you di
Not sure how I feel about this place yet. I'm waiting to see the schedule and times when the fitness room is done and classes begin.
Usually I use gyms for elliptical, treadmill, and stairmaster (okay, this last one is in theory, mostly it's just the first two and fitness classes), but we'll see if this place will be worth it.
So far when I've gone it hasn't been too crowded. I wonder if people even know this place is open. They said an email would be sent out when the gym opened its doors, but I actually had to email them to get clarification. And I only did that because I walked by and saw people working out. It's a little fishy that they'd start charging when they didn't give an official announcement or email blast about the place opening its doors. But I'm trying to stay optimistic and give them the benefit of the doubt.
My friends say gyms are just rackets trying to steal your money. Ha! Right now I'm paying $29/month, which I think is reasonable; however, I don't know if it's worth it to stay if they raise the monthly price at the end of the year since there are so many other alternatives around the neighborhood (Yoga, pilates, hiking, running, dancing, etc). Hmm. If they raise fees I can always head to the gym over the Hyperion Bridge if need be.
Huzzah for options!

Another winner! = Caprese sandwich (mozzarella, tomato, pesto). Toasted with balsamic, salt, pepper, and oregano.
SCORE!
This is a decent lunch spot. Very filling.
Tomato and Avocado with provolone cheese, hummus, italian dressing and mayo is my favorite. Also, pepper. Lettuce. Tomatoes. Toasted on wheat.
I've had the cuban and the buffalo chicken, as well, and although I'm not a vegetarian, my fave is still tomato and avocado. Partly because the avocado is so very fresh.
Cookies are warmed up - delicious. Milkshakes are dangerously good. Strawberry/vanilla is delicious. Also, vanilla. Ah, my old standby.
1pm lunch rush can be quite long. I'd go at noon or 2pm if you can.
Free parking in the structure/shopping center.
Staff friendly. You wrote EXACTLY what you want on the paper bags. Which I like.
Recommended. Beats subway and quiznos hands down.

This place was delicious. The Naan was warm and fresh, cooked just right. Go for the buffet. Well, at least we did. It's relatively inexpensive for what you get. I didn't think the Daal was watery. Maybe they make it differently each time? Everything that I put on my plate was lovely.
Plus, the restaurant has a cool spatial feel to it and the waiters were attentive. It wasn't too crowded when we went so maybe that had something to do with it. Still. You should go! And they have this spicy sauce if you're into that sort of thing.

The beach in January is beautiful and empty. Peaceful with the crashing waves. We walked up and down the beach and afterwards came across the shops. Neither of us had been to Ventura before, but since we both like Greek food, this place seemed like the best bet.
I had the avgolemeno soup and also tried the lentil soup, as well as the spanakopita. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and the food was filling and very tasty. I would recommend this place out of the pier restaurants.
Other Pluses: There was a microphone set up so seems they have music too. Bathrooms were clean. Free parking. Also, when my friend just wanted hot water and lemon, our waitress was totally cool with it. As she should have been, but still.
A very welcoming place.
