Ozona is a place I completely forget about 357 days out of the year. We always end up here on St. Patrick's day and I inevitably talk it up the entire week after telling anyone that will listen my tales of drunken debauchery and delicious food.
Last Saturday was the St. Patrick's day parade on Greenville so I'm back up on my soapbox for a few more days. Because we're troopers we got there early this year for breakfast. . .and of course, for beers. In previous years, I've always opted for the breakfast tacos. Specifically 3 build your own tacos with egg, bacon, chorizo, black beans, pico, jalapenos and sauteed peppers and mushrooms. If that doesn't sound like a meal to prepare you for an all day booze excursion, I don't know what will.
Despite always being in a group of at least 8 people, we've never had a problem with service and our food is brought out pretty quick. This year was no different and even though we had to sit outside in below 50 temperature the space heaters that littered the patio area kept us warm (shots also helped).
I opted to break from tradition this year and went with the "Mas Mejor" grilled chicken sandwich. This way instead of a plain chicken sandwich with just lettuce, tomato and nasty ass mayo, I got a chicken sandwich with swiss, bacon and honey mustard. . .doesn't that sound better?
Know what would sound even better?
How about if I added sauteed peppers and onions and a mound of fresh guacamole on it as well? For an extra $1.50 this sounded like a great idea and my stomach quickly agreed. A short wait later and I had a mountain of a sandwich in front of me. Fresh, chunky guacamole was oozing out on top of a layer of perfectly sauteed sweet peppers and onions, crispy bacon and gooey swiss cheese. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I openly wept at the site of the sandwich and it didn't last on the plate for more than 5 minutes.
Table manners went out the window after that first bite. I couldn't cram it in my face fast enough. There was honey mustard on my eyebrows, flecks of bacon behind my ear and a noticeable chunk of guac in my hair. I used the guac that wouldn't stay in the burger as a topping for my fries and strongly considered licking the wax paper in my food basket to make sure I got every bit of it off.
Now that the parade's over, I'll sit around and talk about that magical sandwich for the next week or so. Then, I'll completely forget about the torrid affair I had with Ozona until next March when I'll be back with another review.
Oh, the reason I didn't give them 5 stars? They served Irish Car Bombs in 2 plastic cups so you had to pour the shot into the Guinness instead of dropping it in. Blasphemy!

I'm not kidding when I say this - that was the moment I became truly hooked on coffee. Before this trip, I was a cup every two month drinker.
It was rich and full of flavor with just enough sweetness and foam to make it a perfect after dinner coffee/dessert for me.
To me, the Pearl Cup is what a coffee shop should be. It reminds me of Common Grounds in Waco and Uncommon Grounds in Denton -- two coffee shops I frequented more than I should have while in college. It's a little funky, a little independent, a little hip and a little prep.
In my visits since then, I've gone for business, to work on my own, I've shared tables with friends and complete strangers and never had any issues with any aspect of the place. Everyone from the baristas to the regulars to the first-timers seem to be genuinely happy to be there.
As for the potential freelance client I met with on my first trip, she's since become my amazing girlfriend. To say I'm partial to Pearl Cup is to say I'm partial to breathing.
