Don't let the awkward location and the appearance of the building fool you. As you pull into the dirt road toward the marina you will probably ask yourself: "Is this the right way?" and be tempted to turn around, but keep going--a great breakfast awaits. You'll walk into the older building and you might even think: "This place could use a remodel... Should I believe the Yelp reviews?" Relax. Take a seat, open up the HUGE 24pt font menus and look over the offerings. "Hmmmm... it seems like this is pretty basic breakfast fare. I hope it's good." Choose anything on the menu. Trust me. It will be good. After a few minutes, as you absorb the homey atmosphere, maybe catch something interesting on the Discovery Channel that is usually playing on the TV over the bar area, you'll realize that Ross in the kitchen just wants to serve a damn good breakfast/lunch. Nothing fancy, nothing high concept or too daring--just a great meal. As you drive home, you'll probably think to yourself: "Man. That was waaaay better than I thought it would be." Enjoy. Oh, and you're welcome! :)

Frigging delicious! If you're looking for a great breakfast while in Maui, you *have* to go to Gazebo Restaurant. It's worth searching out and the wait if there is a line.

The bento boxes are pretty good and the sushi posted on the board like the Honeybunny roll and Long Beach roll are also quite tasty. By the way, I love the funky clock on the east wall.

Fresh ingredients, good service and good atmosphere make this a good place to enjoy a good meal. While prices lean toward the "spendy" side, the quality of the ingredients and consistent quality makes it worth it.

My wife and I are regulars. We love Lettuce! My favorite sandwiches are the BLT and CEO while my favorite salad is the Napa. My wife (who is vegetarian) can't seem to get enough of the Napa (with tofu and mozzarella instead of chicken) salad.

When thinking about the "pricey" menu items, just remember that the ingredients are local and fresh and think about how much time and money you would spend at Whole Foods or Farmer's Market to make a similar salad or sandwich. In my opinion, Lettuce is a bargain in comparison.  :)

Grinders Submarine Sandwiches

Beware of the "Sandwich Nazi"!!!

Grinders is a hole in the wall sub place in the Oakland hills Montclair district that implements an interesting idea in ordering subs; they use a computer database to track all their toppings, and remembers your order. First, you choose a "base" sandwich from the wall menu of 100+(!) choices posted outside of the restaurant. Next, you tell the counterperson (usually a tall, lanky, bug-eyed guy who acts like he owns the place) what sub you want. Then he systematically asks you what you want on your sandwich. Pretty cool, eh? Well, it is a good idea in theory, but it makes for a very uncomfortable experience! The aforementioned "manager" dude, is incredibly rude and gets very upset if you don't answer him quickly or ask about a topping "out of turn." Simply put, the customer service is exactly as depicted in that famous Seinfeld episode... I expect him to scream "NO SUB FOR YOU!!!"

The thing is, their subs are actually pretty good. So, my dilemma for rating this place is balancing the rating between service and quality. I give the subs 4.5 stars, and the service 0 stars. If you want a good sub and don't mind being treated horribly, go for it: you'll like Grinders. If you're looking for a friendly place to get lunch, avoid Grinders like the plague.

Oh, and what's with the Casper's Hot Dog's cups? (If you order a medium drink, you'll know what I am talking about...)

Cafe Santorini simply rocks.

Food: excellent.
Service: great.
Ambiance: cozy.

Consider it a "Hipper Il Fornaio with a more creative menu."
