Dr. Fagan is gone, so I guess I am S.O.L. on the primary care front.

If you live in Winchester, he went there... so look him up.

Though my review for Dr. Fagan is five stars (I would give 10 if I could), I can understand why there are negative reviews for this practice, considering the blood work you are required to have completed with each visit. It can be pretty expensive, and if you go to the doctor a lot and are on a tight budget, then this isn't the place for you.

Dr. Fagan became my primary doctor in January 2011, and I don't think I would ever look for a new doctor unless I moved far, far away. Since moving to D.C., he is the first doctor who has taken the time to get to know me, and who has actually recognized me on each visit. This gives me a feeling of comfort -- as if I'm not just another patient to him. He listens to my concerns and respects my opinion.

Many doctors I've seen have been sort of condescending and jaded. I get why they might feel this way -- seeing dozens and dozens of patients each day can be exhausting. After being burned by sneaky drug addicts, threats of malpractice, and just generally unpleasant people, it must be hard to keep that fresh-out-of-medical -school vigor.

But still, I want a doctor who realizes the ups-and-downs of the profession and offers personalized, competent care despite all the drama. And Dr. Fagan is certainly that person.

I do have some complaints about the way the office is run, but I am willing to put up with all of that. Not everyone is going to be willing to overlook the time/cost constraints. It does run like a well-oiled machine, however.

Each time I've been there, the same steps have taken place in this order: check in with receptionist; provide urine sample; wait 20 minutes; have blood drawn; wait 20 minutes; have vital signs and weight taken; wait 30 minutes; see doctor.

So that is what you can expect, and then decide if you think it's worth it. I will say that when I make an appointment very early in the morning, the process doesn't take as long.

I was here last night and the service wasn't just horrible, it was offensive. The bartender upstairs was screaming at the top of her lungs at people when they would do basic things like ask her for a beer. Last time I checked, serving beer was a regular part of being a bartender. If you hate your job, it's your problem. Don't make it everyone's problem.

I can walk here from my apartment, it's cheap, and it has pitchers -- so it gets 4 stars.

We came here sort of late on a Friday night so we could have a pitcher and play the naughty version of "What's the Difference." Shortly after we got there, a group of drunk "bros" came in. One of them kept lurking over us and he was annoying but manageable. He wanted us to let him play the game, and when we took too long finishing that round, he farted near us. That's always a quick way to get me the heck out of somewhere. I'm very sensitive to smell.

So we moved from the game to one of the booths and watched the shenanigans from there. The bartenders were mildly annoyed by the drunk people, but played along. They did make it clear that once the clock strikes 2 am, you have to get the heck out. They will slap the beer out of your hand, you do not get to finish it.

It's a pretty relaxed environment, and the price is certainly right. Don't travel miles to come here, but check it out if you're in the area. I don't really like fancy dance clubs, so this place is great for me.

I'm also intrigued by the reviews talking about how the owner sits at the bar, gets drunk, and yells at people. I'd like to see that -- unless he's yelling at me.

Mr. Tire

This place is a joke. I went there because I needed 1 tire. The employee gave me a song and dance about how their company policy states I would have to buy 4 new tires. Either 4 new tires or nothing.

It was "unethical" to just sell me 1 tire, said the employee, because all the tires on my car have to be the same.

OK, I said, if the thing you're concerned about is that all the tires are the same, then if you sell me 1 tire that is like the other 3 already on my car, that would mean they are all the same.

But nope, the only thing he could do was sell me 4 new tires of a completely different brand than the kind already on my car. I rolled my eyes and said "buh bye."

These people are weird.

I like this place, especially after living in DC for 7.5 years and constantly fighting for cardio equipment in every small, cramped gym I ever joined there. (I never joined Balance. Balance is NOT small, cramped and overpriced. Please note that.)

Every time I've been here, there have been tons of machines available, and most of them have TVs. I've never even had to fight for a Body Bar or a space in front of the mirror so I can do my strength training. Parking is free, and spaces are always available. The price is also OK -- not great, but OK. It's about what I paid in DC for Washington Sports Club, except I feel like I get more "bang for my buck" here.

Maybe my expectations for a gym were lowered by living in DC so long, but I am enjoying the wide open space here. I'm in and I'm out and I don't have to worry about rearranging my schedule according to when the gym is busy.

And I don't mind that it's kind of a geriatrics ward -- I am not going to the gym to make friends. I know the 90-year-old guy on the lazy bike isn't trying to score my digits or take me out for a steak dinner.

I also don't need to communicate with the staff beyond "H & B." I don't want any training sessions and I don't need them trying to sell me crap -- which so far, no one has tried to do. Show owner comment »

My experience here wasn't bad, but I can understand (to some extent) what the other reviewers are saying.

The receptionist I encountered wasn't rude, but she seemed bored with her job and I could tell she wasn't really paying attention. (I'm sure everyone has come across someone in a customer service/retail position who obviously doesn't like their job, who isn't listening to you, and who won't remember you 5 minutes after you leave.) However, another lady (whose position I'm not sure of) was really chatty and going out of her way to connect with the customers.

On the positive side, the office is really nice and clean. The optometrist saw me right away, so I wasn't waiting around too much. They were also able to take my appointment at the last minute. Another thing I liked was that the optometrist didn't try to strong arm me into buying 1,000 boxes of contact lenses. I told her I would be getting them from the Internet at my leisure and she was fine with that. Her main concern was that I had enough time to try out my contact lenses & make sure they were comfortable.

Bottom line is that this place is more expensive than going to one of the bigger chains, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. I didn't experience anything that set this place apart enough to warrant the higher price. In addition, I don't live/work in this neighborhood anymore, so I probably wouldn't trek in from the VA suburbs.

I stopped in here randomly, not really expecting them to have veggie burgers-- but they do! And the shocker is that they're good. They weren't the annoying, lazy kind that falls apart the second you bring it off the plate. They also have sweet potato fries. I am super stoked that I found this place!

The location is fantastic -- it's next to restaurants and across the street from the beach. You can get pretty cheap rooms online, but those rooms are kind of scary. The only really good rooms are the ones facing the beach, with the balconies. I wouldn't suggest staying here unless you're getting one of those front rooms.

The wi-fi didn't really work.

After I sent out quote requests to several limo companies throughout Southern NJ, David at Atlantic came back with what was the best by far. There were 9 of us and we needed a limo for three hours (in Cape May). David's price included tips, etc. and had no hidden fees. The driver showed up on time and we didn't have any problems.

Grand Hotel of Cape May

As MOH for one of my closest friends, I wanted to plan a beach weekend for her that would be laid back, yet awesome. Since we had girls coming from everywhere, New Jersey was the best option for a "middle ground." I was familiar with Cape May from having visited there with my family, and remembered that it was cute and clean. However, we had only stayed at Cape May B&Bs growing up, so I had no recommendations on hotels.

Long story short, I chose the Grand Hotel mostly because we needed a place where 9 girls could stay in one room together. None of the B&Bs could accommodate us, and I thought we might be SOL until I came across this place. They gave us a two-floor room with a huge balcony, with enough sleeping room for 9, at about $1200 for two nights.

After booking the hotel, I was nervous due to some bad reviews on the Net. When I showed up for the big weekend though, I realized I had nothing to worry about. The room, while old, was clean and big. The outdoor pool had plenty of seating and also a bartender. We had a huge balcony in our room, and it gave us a partial view of the ocean. We didn't really check out the indoor pool, the arcade or the restaurant so I can't speak to those.

They only let one of us park in their lot, but no one had a problem finding parking on the street. The side streets like Philadelphia and New Jersey, aren't metered.

We were only there for a weekend, and so maybe some of the bad reviews were from people staying there longer. It's not a fancy hotel -- but it's a beach hotel. Most of the beaches along the east coast are lined with older hotels. It's going to be very different from what you'd see in Miami or some place like that.

All-in-all we had a great time, and no one was grossed out by the hotel -- we were right across the street from the beach and there were a lot of restaurants, etc within walking distance.
