Pit Stop Discount Beverage

Our family has purchased beer here for over 40 years, but I think I have spent my last dollars here. Went in to purchase a 30pk of Genny and the price is $3 more than Rite Aid.  And the price of a 12pk is the same price as it is at the local convenience store. It says 'Discount' in the business name, but that is hardly the case.

An Ode to Stewart's

Philmont is my hometown
And for my whole life, you've been around.

But now you've left me high and dry.
Not sure whether I should laugh or cry.

Ice cream for the whole baseball team in the back of the truck,
I wish I could find a word that rhymes with truck

I wish you success, 'cause you treated me well,
But I would have liked notice that you planned to set sail.

No more buttered hard rolls, or milk, or ice cream,
Oh if it were only a really bad dream.

If you plan to leave another town, please try to be straight
But don't worry about Philmont, we get knocked down 7 times, get back up 8.

If you are travelling from out of town, don't be alarmed that you can just lift the nozzle and start pumping gas.  No automation at this pump, which is a refreshing change from the credit card pump and run (except when there are kids in the car).

Stewart's has great ice cream, great milk (including a buy 10 gallons get 1 free card), good coffee and excellent buttered hard rolls.  And since the grocery store in town closed, they have also expanded their grocery offerings.

If I reviewed this place a couple of months ago I would have given it 1-star because they charge extra to pay for gas with a credit card. But I've noticed their prices are relatively lower for gas than neighboring stores and really they are just passing on the credit card charges to the consumer. So I got gas today and paid cash.
Well, it happens to be the first of the month and they give you free coffee on the 1st (yahtzee). The coffee is pretty good and I grabbed an egg croissant that wasn't terrible. With the closing of Stewarts in my hometown, I'll be going here more often. Wonder if their milk is any good?

Wow, saw the sign for Hudson Clothing Outlet and curiosity brought us there. I have shopped second hand my whole life, and I can tell you that the ratio of price to junk is higher than it used to be. But HCO has lots of name brand items, much of it is used, but the clothes are in very good shape.
I picked up some jeans, tshirts, cool (well in my opinion) festive island drinking shirts, a pair of womens lands end sneakers, and some kids clothes.
They have the same stuff as Goodwill and Salvation Army, except it is merchandised much better for the same price or less. Sizes are together and the layout of the store is well thought out. A lot of name brand stuff and very good variety. I'll be back.

Saw Louie CK here last weekend. Had not been there in so long and was re-impressed with the awesomeness of this venue. Can't wait to go back.

They've got 24 oz cans of Genesee for $0.99 (with the old-style labels). Every place that's got them automatically gets 5 stars.

Great views of the Hudson River and a nice trail area. Sad that most of the places along the Hudson River mostly ignore the river and its beauty. The conservation area also connects to the Greenport Park, which makes for a nice outdoor outing with kids.

Here is an excerpt from the CLC Website...
The Greenport Conservation Area is a 714-acre property along the Hudson River, and includes upland meadows, deciduous forests, and an estuarine wetland.  The Conservation Area is owned by the Open Space Institute and managed by the Columbia Land Conservancy.

The site is open to the public and contains four miles of trails that meander through open fields, deciduous forests and dense cedar groves.  Along the trails, visitors can stop for a picnic at the gazebo, overlook bench or picnic shelter and can admire spectacular views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains beyond.

People have called Gander Mountain the Walmart of Wildlife. Well, I don't think they have any plans for world dominance, but the store has good quality stuff and one-stop shopping for many things we can't get close to home. I like visiting this store.

Just stopped by the Banjo Mountain Cafe In the former space of Red Maple Books in Harlemville. The fact that the closest coffee shop for me is in Hudson, this space 3 miles up the road (with an organic grocery store nearby) is a welcomed addition. Had a house coffee and my daughter had a delicious hot chocolate (with a special chocolate design on top) and a cookie. Excellent service and great vibe. Wifi, a small book selection, and great indoor and outdoor spaces for studying, reading, checking email or whatever it is people do are sure to make this a great community space.
Thanks Jo for the tip.

Mercato's (this is actually Mercato's II) is some good workin' man italian food...good food, good portions, good price. Located in the old Jimmie Casey's next to the now closed old Burger King on Route 9&20, this place has good service a good bar to watch games and a separate dining room. The service was very good and you can get anything from a pizza to a subsandwich, calzone, or a full dinner.
