Under the Pier

I have been going to Under the Pier for years. It always has delicious food. The prices are low and the service is fast. I agree with the previous review in that you would not want to judge the food by the appearance of the restaurant. This is a place that only locals would know how good it really is. Now that smoking is banned the only improvement the restaurant needs is to take credit cards. But maybe the understated appearance and cash only policy adds to its quirky charm.

My husband and I had a nice dinner. The food was very good and is traditional Irish. The service was slow. Don't eat here if you are in a hurry-we were not so it was fine. I did get a little thirsty though waiting for a refill. But the atmosphere is amazing! Outside it is brightly painted and cute. Inside it is dark and woody. It feels just like Ireland right down to little glass windows with vintage advertisements. We missed the Sunday night Irish music but a nice mix of music played in the background.

King George II Inn

I love King George Inn. I love the historic atmosphere and all the wood and creeky floors. Recently my family and I ate there and it was delicious. I started with tomato soup which was unexpectedly somewhat Italian flavored but wonderful. It had bits of zucchini and parmesan cheese on top. My entree was crab cakes with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It sound simple but the details the chef adds makes it wonderful.  A mildly spicy sauce was swirled on the plate with stacked potatoes and one of the crab cakes on top. The vegetables were extremely flavorful and I am not sure how they were cooked. Grilled or sauted? Not just boiled.
Anyway, I love a quiet peaceful meal with delicious food in an old building. So King George Inn has it all for me.

I came to Johnny Brenda's to see a band, Levee Drivers. I had a great time sitting up in the balcony. The sound is great and this place has fabulous atmosphere and design elements. But the smell downstairs was so wonderful I wished I had eaten there. Next time!

V & S Pizzeria

I have eaten here for many years. Mostly because it is so close to where I live. The prices are a little high compared to other pizza shops but the food is always good and it is kept very clean. I like V&S because it is family owned and run. The owner's daughter runs a tight ship and my orders are never wrong once I get home.
My favorites are hoagies, grilled chicken house salad, and calzones.

Charcoal Steak's'n Things

My family and I had a wonderful dinner with great service. I had New York Strip Steak cooked perfectly with wonderful charcoal broil flavor.  The meal included salad and two sides. I chose baked potato and asparagus. The asparagus was delicious. I am very critical of asparagus in restaurants but this was cooked just right. The decor is minimalist but nice. Also, the restaurant provides a wonderful view of the Delaware river.

Pop Shop

I went here because I saw the Pop Shop on Throw Down with Bobby Flay.  When I went it was very busy but I was waited on quickly.  The food was very good. The place is designed like a 1950's soda shop but the food is very now. The menu has an unusual selection of grilled cheese that is definitely not the same old same old. For example, I had the Haddon which is Brie with caramelized apples and onions, ham, and grain mustard on wheat. The Pop Shop is an approx. 45 drive from where I live so I have not been back but I do want to.

I have been to World Cafe Live several times. I have never been upstairs but downstairs is great. The food is good and the sound is fantastic. Another review mentioned a mandatory food purchase but I have not experienced that. Perhaps it varies with the different shows. I saw Levee Drivers play for a small crowd and my sister and I only ordered a couple drinks. The best thing about World Cafe Live is the music and the opportunity to see artists- some are well known and some lesser known. There is not a bad seat in the house and the music is great!

I have been here twice to see my son's band- Levee Drivers. The service and food was very good. But since I was really there for the music, I was a little disappointed. The band area is very secluded in it's own tiny room. The band was not visible at all from where I was seated.  Our group sat at our table stretching our necks around a large, young, drinking crowd. So if you are looking for a night out to drink at a bar then you might like JB's. But if you want entertainment try The Puck or World Cafe Live.

El Taco Loco

I am not a Mexican food expert but I really thought the food was delicious. I can only compare to Taco Bell so for me this is authentic. I wish I had more Mexican restaurants in my area. So although El Taco Loco is a bit of a drive I go here when I want Mexican food. My only complaint is that in the summer it is very noisy from the air conditioners in the wall.
