One of the most luxurious experiences I've had the pleasure to enjoy from start to finish.  No need to leave your suite when you come to Vegas.

I don't feel like I'm getting my auto work done cheap at Huntington Tire & Auto Center, but I am willing to pay a fair amount for quality work, good advice, and superior service.  Each time I bring my van in for work, the staff here goes above and beyond with at least 2-3 significant actions that show they care about making the customer happy.  For example, I'm sure I'm being charged plenty enough that they're not losing money by replacing for free that brake light they noticed was out, but it sure is a nice gesture for them to do so.  Friendly, knowledgeable staff, quality service, Huntington Auto has one happy and loyal customer.

Update - 6/25/2010 11 Check-ins Here
Upon seeing me today, both the manager and the waitress mentioned that my wife and daughter had just eaten here.  That says a lot:

- Both my wife and I like the place enough to happen to be here on the same day when I'm working in the area.

- We like it so much we come here often enough to be recognized.

- The staff is consistent over time (always a good sign).

- The staff here is super nice.

Tip: If you like the pizza, try a calzone with your same favorite ingredients.  It's like a pizza with double crust and you know it's the crust you're here for.

The best thing about the pizza at Numero Uno is the sweet crust. I suspect before cooking it they sprinkle it with sugar it tastes so good.  The chicken parmesan sandwich and meatball sub are made great by the crispy yummy bread. It is perfect for the cheesy meaty filling.

It's nice to see the same folks running the place when we go back year after year.  There is plenty of room for large parties in the spacious dining area, though I imagine you will generally need to call ahead.

I believe the Numero Uno Pizza on Centinella on the West side may be related given the sweet crust there, too, but it is much smaller and no good for large parties.

Ma'Kai Lounge

Ma'Kai opened up for lunch again recently after a couple years of only doing the night time thing.  We went there today for http://ThursdayLunch.com and overall I was not impressed.

I expect to pay a premium for food on Ocean, but $5 for a small side of fries is absurd, given that the fries should have come free with the sandwich and should not have been colder than room temperature.  I did enjoy the $12 "three cheese panini" which is basically a fancy cheese BLT with a touch of spiciness.

Things I did not enjoy include the long wait for the food which trickled out from the kitchen over a period of 20-30 minutes before everybody in our party was served (even though we were the only 10 people in the entire restaurant) nor did I enjoy the 20% tip added to the bill.  Though the service was pleasant, 20% is a bit presumptuous.

If you're in the area for lunch, I recommend skipping Ma'Kai and heading right across the street to "i Cugini" where you can get amazing food with amazing service for a bit more (but totally worth it).

Rolling Rice

There's "sushi" and then there "fast food sushi".  Don't ever confuse the two as there is no relation.  Rolling Rice delivers everything I expect of a fast food sushi place.

Though I try to avoid reviewing fast food joints and I try to avoid reviewing chains, I toss in this fast food chain because sometimes you need to pick up something on the run.  I think salmon, spicy tuna, and avocado in a rice bowl beats a burger pretty much any day.

I swing through Rolling Rice regulary on my way to work and I have had nothing but very pleasant service from the gals behind the register.

Serious Pie

On a recent trip to Seattle I had the chance to experience Serious Pie with a group of new acquaintances, many of whom I'd known previously online.  As much as I enjoyed the smart table conversation, the food definitely was the highlight.

I ordered the roasted chanterelles and truffle cheese pizza (pie) because when I see the word "truffle" the entire rest of the menu disappears.  Though it was superb, I did trade half of it with foodie Don MacAskill for half of his cherry bomb peppers and sweet fennel sausage pizza. Yum.

Now, I feel the need to eat through the rest of the menu, but have no idea when I will have the opportunity to get back to Seattle.

You've got two Brittish pub choices on Santa Monica Blvd near 3rd Street. As much as I enjoy the atmosphere and good times at Ye Olde Kings Head, I have to admit the food at The Britannia is superior.  The upstairs seating can be a bit stifling if the weather is hot, but downstairs always seems fine.  It looks like the limited seating gets filled up quickly on busy nights, but The Britannia has been a great choice for http://ThursdayLunch.com outings and they've always worked out a way to seat our group.

Though the Emery Theater has been closed since 1999, I have fond memories of this wonderful historic landmark.  In the mid 1980's I and some friends occasionally attended the (monthly?) movie and organ events held at the Emery Theater.  There was generally a double feature of wonderful old movies from the 30's-50's with a long intermission where a master organist played the theater's authentic Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ.  After the second movie, the audience was often allowed *inside* the organ chamber as it was playing. Wow!  That's not an experience many people will get and not one I will ever forget. Thanks for the memories, Emery.

Bistro of Santa Monica has fine Italian menu selections and a fine atmosphere and service to match.  I enjoyed the Veal Limone entree I ordered and it made a fairly nice, light lunch.

My main complaint is the parking.  There are only a few spaces directly behind the restaurant (all taken), and street parking was either full or forbidden for a long ways around.

If I knew there was a spot waiting for me, I would definitely be back, but otherwise...

El Cholo Cafe

El Cholo is a Los Angeles landmark.  Er, several landmarks as it has turned into a bit of a chain.  Even so, this restaurant offers a great experience all around for small lunches and large dinner parties.  The decor is authentic, the food plentiful and delicious.

I'm a fan of the green corn tamales, but they are not offered when out of season.  El Cholo is one of the few places where we are willing to pay (too much) for guacamole made table-side.  Though it sometimes comes out mediocre, there have been enough times that it has been the best guacamole we have ever tasted that we keep rolling the dice to relive that experience.

With chips, guacamole, and the large combination appetizer platter, a party of six will wish they had ordered less food by the time the entrees arive.
