All Stars Sports Bar

Without many bars or restaurants to choose from in the United Terminal, All Star Sport Bar does the job.  They serve up cold beers and if I'm hungry, nachos usually do the job.

It's the best place to pass time as you wait for your flight: sports on the tv, beer and people watching!

I managed not to pay a cover to get in and felt that the night was going my way!  I immediately went to check my coat and scarf in the coat check and collected my ticket.

My drinks were not lacking by any means and the music was spot on to dance the night away.  Then comes the end of the night and I grabbed my jacket and was basically pushed out of the bar by the bouncers.  As I walked to a friend's house, I realized that they took my scarf or didn't return it to me with my jacket.  I walked back and the place was closed and my scarf gone forever.

I felt completely violated.  Will I be back?  No.  Should you trust coat check?  Probably no again.  Are there better places to dance? Yes!

Ugh, Lime!  What did you do to me?

I tried blaming Janet Jackson, but it's not her fault that they played "when I think of you" and the entire restaurant lost it.  People were dancing on tables.  People were walking out of the restrooms in pairs.  And some bride-to-be was making this probably one of the most memorable brunches ever (white veil included).

Lastly, their spark plugs (chilled espresso, vanilla vodka and kahlua) were absolutely delish! Before I knew it, 4 hours had gone by and we were still there with 6 new best friends??!! I do remember the bill or I remember that we had ordered 48 spark plugs to a table that started as 3 and ended as 7 or 8!!??

Lime, you have made it to my list of way too much fun for one day or one lifetime. You've been added to my list of places that I can never go back  again:(

United Airlines

Update - 11/22/2010 12 Check-ins Here
I recently flew United to JFK and was booked on a P.S. flight (aka premium service) and I had no idea what this was.  But the 2 travelers next to me were all about it!  They were so in the know...crawling under their seats looking for outlets to plug in their laptops and setting up their wifi before lift-off.

I was pretty excited to have wifi for my 6 hour flight and but not so excited to have to pay for wifi twice at $7.95 each:  once for my laptop and another time for my phone.

P.S. United - if it was premium service, my wifi should have been free or at least not paying for it on each device:(

First of all, let me be honest with you, "I'm a points whore!"  So, I might be a tad biased, but completely honest! All of my air miles are United miles:)  I'm pretty dedicated and they have treated me well over the years.

I've had so many memorable flights on United:
    - A random leave on Tuesday from SFO to Charles de Gaulle and stay in Paris for 12 days all for the grand total of $230.
    - United booked at least 46 different flights for me and my partner after our 9/12/01 flight was canceled and they got us home on 4 different flights (note to self: I learned that CIncinnati Airport is really in Northern Kentucky:/).
    - Free bottles of champagne on numerous Hawaii flights just to make sure we really enjoy our holiday.
    - They've upgraded me to business class on my way back from Heathrow so my partner didn't have fly alone :)
    - Coming home from 5 days of partying in New Orleans, Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica) was seated next to me:) Highlight!

All in all, they have gotten me from here to there, safely and have made some trips memorable.

Bubble

What makes Bubble different from all the other Marina baby stores?

It actually has a 50/50 ratio of clothing for girls and boys!
The owner works in the store, has children and is super friendly without being overbearing .
The tee-shirt selection is by far one of the best.  Super soft, stylish tees!

Solid clothing store for a San Francisco baby and a perfect place to stop in and pick up a cool little gift.

I just wanted a deluxe car wash along with my tires done.  $25 later and the car has been washed, but wasn't clean.  They left streaks along the back, the windows weren't washed, and the tires look the same.

And later I notice that my valve caps were removed from the 2 back tires...ugh! Sorry Yelp, I guess I should have read the reviews sooner!  My bad!

Sanctuary Resort On Camelback Mountain

Category: Hotels

3.0 star rating
6/6/2010 1 Check-in Here
Oh...this place has some of the best views of Camelback and Paradise Valley.  Upon arrival, you can feel your shoulders start to drop and let the relaxation begin.

Unfortunately check-in wasn't as smooth as I would hope and 25 minutes later, we are finally acknowledged and given the keys to the suite (with no direction on how to find the suite).  I just kept thinking, please let's not this be foreshadowing of my weekend to come.

We walk into our suite and it's stunning!  Absolutely beautiful, decorated simply, and with views of Paradise Valley.  What more could you possibly need or want in a room?  And I immediately think the front desk situation is a fluke.  We start to settle in and I walk into the bedroom to take a look at the crib that I requested and noticed that it wasn't too sturdy.  After a better look, the crib was set up and leaning against the wall.  Once I pulled it away from the wall, it started to collapse.  I called the front desk and she apologizes immediately and sent out a new crib.  An hour later, the new crib arrived and after helping the 2 service employees get the crib through the door, they ask me if that one is better.  This one is sturdy, but the sheet on the crib are stained and look filthy.  Ugh...I have them take the sheets since I packed my own and just hope that this is a one off oversight.

Service is definitely lacking at this resort.  I've never had so many calls to or from room service with questions. We had a cabana at the pool and that too was lacking.  To possibly get service, was like pulling teeth.

Everything here was supposed to be relaxing, but it was so stressful to even have the simplest items full filled.  I've stayed at many other resorts in Scottsdale and maybe at one time, this was the place to stay, but now, it's aged and their service failed miserably.

*I also filled out a survey which was sent from the hotel and I gave them at least 4 examples of their below par service.  Within 10 minutes of me sending the survey in, the front desk manager called my cell to personally apologize for his team. The manager of the resort emailed me with her apologies and offered a complimentary stay.  All which is appreciated, but it may take some time before I consider Sanctuary.  Look for a possible update in the future.

Nina's Cleaners

Category: Dry Cleaning & Laundry
Neighborhood: Bernal Heights

3.0 star rating
Update - 4/24/2010 5 Check-ins Here
Over the past 3 years of living in the neighborhood, I've tried every dry cleaner around.  Some are good, but they are a cash only place, or only open on weekdays and or they misplace my clothing. None of this has happened at Nina's.  Yes, it's a bit pricey, but for the convenience of being able to use my atm card, pick up on a Saturday and they always have my clothes ready for me - makes all the difference in the world.

So for the extra money, they provide a level of comfort that my clothes are going to cleaned and ready to go when needed- priceless!

I also have to comment on the prices.  I was a bit shocked when I sent my gf to pick up the load of clothes I dropped at the beginning of the week - it was $80. I think maybe we had 8 items.  Being new in the hood and it was on my walk to Bart, I thought this was going to be the perfect place.  It's way too rich for me and my clothes.

One Stop Party Shop

Category: Party Supplies
Neighborhood: Noe Valley

2.0 star rating
2/21/2010 2 Check-ins Here
The name completely sold me!  A one stop shop in my neighborhood?  Sold!  I'm so there and ready to buy out the store.  Unfortunately, as I walked into the store, I tripped over a dog carrying case which was foreshadowing.

I made my way through the store (aisles were tight), but found the party plates and napkins. They have all the basic colors: blue, pink, red, but that's about it (plain).  They also carried a couple of themed items: Chinese NY party favors and some items for Mardi Gras, but beyond that there wasn't anything that really screamed party to me.

It was difficult having to make my way through the aisles and watching every step and trying to look for party plates.  It's good to know that this is a few blocks from my house for convenience, but if you are looking for more specific items, this may not be the place.

I'm planning a first birthday party and was looking for a one-stop shop. Yup, this is the place.  Aisles were labeled:  girls' birthday, boys' birthday, holidays, and showers. With huge labels, I was able to find everything I needed for the party.

I picked up themed plates, hats, goodie bags, streamers, and mylar balloons. One bummer was you still have to pay full price for the mylar balloons even if you order them without helium.  Overall, it's worth the drive and we were in and out quick!
