Good food, generous portions, and great prices. I always leave full and satisfied after a burrito and a horchata.

Salt & Straw

Salt and Straw has to be in my top 3 food places to visit in Portland, and they've only been around a matter of months. I first checked them out when they were just an ice cream stand, but now that they've moved into their store things are even better.

Every flavor has a very unique and distinct taste (personal favorites are the Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache and Banana with Spicy Monkey Caramel and Walnuts), and every one of them is delicious. They go out of their way to let you try as many flavors as you'd like, and I suggest you do so. Just be warned that you may find yourself visiting repeatedly for scoops to get a full taste of each of the flavors.

One of the more interesting flavors is Beer and Bacon. It may exist partially for the novelty and other flavors impress more when sampling, but I decided to give it a try with a scoop, and it's one of those foods that gets better the more you eat. It's worth a full scoop to get the full experience and subtleties of the flavor.

The only downside to their new location seems to be that they've been "found out" and the last time I visited there was a line, but the wait was quick and Kim (the owner) was very friendly while waiting.

Pretty much what everyone else said.

The Reggie Deluxe is a winner and it's hard to go wrong with anything else on the meny, but be prepared to wait for it. I here evenings are the time to go if you don't want a wait, and a biscuit and a beer make a good combo.

Even though I live in North Portland and could find a place to get a haircut within walking distance, I find myself coming back to Rudy's. I've never had a bad haircut there, regardless of who I see. I'm generally the sort of person who just shows up without an appointment to see what the wait is and get a cut with whomever is available next, but I had a great experience with Amy Rose a while back so on my most recent visit I actually made an appointment and I wasn't disappointed. While many people can cut hair, you can tell she sees the cut before it happens and has a great eye for detail.

Monsoon Thai Cuisine

So far so good! I'm not sure why it took me 8 months of living within walking distance to find this gem, but now that I've found it I'd say it's becoming a regular stop and my go-to place for good Thai.

All the dishes are excellent - pad thai, drunken noodles, curries (including their signature pumpkin curry). Atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a good Thai place - simple, if not cheap (and even attached to a laundromat).

Prices are affordable, and pretty standard for Thai. Serving sizes are pretty decent and all in all it's hard to go wrong.

Expect a wait to be seated, but with good reason.  The pizza is among the best anywhere.  It'd be hard to categorize it as any particular style other than its own.  Great crust, tasty dough, and lots of good toppings.  High ceilings and large open windows make it a great place to go on a warm, sunny evening.  Prices are very reasonable given the quality and portions.

Drool.

Amazing cakes, pastries, ice cream, pies, and any other type of dessert your heart could desire.  My favorites include several of the chocolate cakes and the key lime tartlet.  The desserts aren't terribly cheap, but you get every bit of what you pay for.  The dining area is small and it can be difficult to find a spot for larger groups to sit, but that doesn't tarnish things at all for me.

I make it a rule to try Thai food restaurants whenever I can, and the Thai House is still the best Thai food I've ever had.  It's run by a Thai family that obviously cares about their food and their business.  The service is dependable and the food is great.  Rice dishes, noodle dishes, soups,  and appetizers are all top-notch.

My favorite has always been the chicken with onions and baby corn.  And get it nice and spicy.

In a way, Burgerville is Oregon/Washington's answer to In 'n Out Burger.  Only Burgerville has better food using higher quality ingredients and more selection.  Great Burgers, great shakes, stellar fries.  You really can't go wrong.  Plus they're committed to making their business more sustainable.

Lucky Labrador Beer Hall

Lucky Lab's Beer Hall is very much a hall in every sense of the word.  Several massive rooms and a large outdoor area, and yet it's usually pretty full.  The beer is good and the prices are reasonable.  The food definitely leaves something to be desired, however.

I recently attended the Belgian Beer festival held here.  It's a great venue for festivals, music, and events because of the large layout.  Definitely the type of place to go if you've got a large group.
