Cool interior/vibe but that's about where the "good" ended.  This was a disappointing experience.  I've frequented other Village Restaurant Groups before (Village Gourmet & Tina Louise) so my girlfriend and I had high hopes for this switch in our date night routine.  The dinner crowd looked like they made the same decision as us.

The usually awesome dinner salad that is served in VG (Village Gourmet) came sans croutons here and the napkin our bread was wrapped in hadn't been washed and had crusty food stuck to its underside.

We chose the Lobster Pops as an appetizer and were underwhelmed.  It was a poorly presented/plated dish.  Pretty bland, mushy and tasteless.  They even gave us some sort of pasta on the side to clean our palettes.  Makes sense but not with the appetizer.

My my girlfriend ordered the Shrimp Scampi Alfredo and after sitting under a heat lamp for about 20 minutes, it finally was served to her.  The sauce was very lemony and all congealed on the top of the dish.  The very bottom of the dish was extremely warm.

I ordered the Fish Sampler and similar to all our dishes to that point, this didn't have much taste to it either.  It was plated very awkwardly (using about 5 different plates stacked on each other for the dish).  I could tell this too had been sitting a bit but not under a heat lamp.  All the dishes used for plating were stone cold.  The sauces with each fish were underwhelming.  The part of the dish I ate the most was the "wok'd" rice and vegetables that didn't seem to be cooked in a wok at all.  More likely a regular pan full of butter.  Lots and lots of butter.  An overwhelming amount of butter.

Maybe our dishes would've been different if our server wasn't responsible for the whole entire upstairs dining room.  When we left, it was close to 15 tables.  However, I have a feeling this is more of the kitchen's fault.  Service was manageable when we placed our orders.

The table next to us returned one of their dinners as well and replaced it with a VRG favorite - the General Tso's Chicken.  It would've been nice to see a bit more variation on the menu since it's supposed to be different from a place like VG.  Also, if seafood is the main feature, it's a shame both our entrees sucked it up.

Probably won't eat here ever again.

Pretty crappy experience.  From the outside, I should've known.  It was a pleasant evening and their patio was packed - although, no one was eating.  Everyone was drinking.

We were sat in the main dining room with direct view of the patio.  Our table was wobbly as well - a huge pet peeve.  They did have some nice microbrews available but pricey ($7+).  We ordered a pretty basic mozzarella, tomato, prosciutto, balsamic appetizer but it was plated on a warm place so it took away from the experience a lot.

Our waiter "forgot" that my ossobucco entree "takes 45 minutes" to make.  He told us this about 20 minutes after we got our appetizers.  Not a good move.  Soon after this, a bus boy spilled my beer all over our table and subsequently on my shirt and pants.  Having wet clothes and smelling like beer the rest of the evening probably didn't change my review, even if the beer incident hadn't happened - this place is sub-par.

Out entrees were decent.  The sausage in my girlfriend's dish was very dried out.  Our deserts and coffee were free b/c of the beer incident.

Not a great dining experience at all.  Like other reviewers said, go for drinks when the patio isn't crowded and it's nice out.  Past that, not worth your time.

Note to the "manager":  your female wait staff don't need to dress like cocktail waitresses at a strip club, diners notice when you spend the majority of your time flirting and then have to tell the wait staff to tell the chef that they prepared dishes wrong.  Seems to be some simple fixes - focus on the dining experience and not how many people cram into the patio and you'll do okay.

9 North Restaurant - CLOSED

Brought my sisters and grandmother for Mother's Day dinner.  Was able to make a 530pm reservation that same day, around noon.  I've been wanting to try this place ever since it opened b/c there aren't many new, great dining experiences actually in Wayne.  9 North fits the bill and I hope it'll only get better.

The dining room is fairly small but they've done a good job with the space, keeping it modern, well-lit and - overall - used the space efficiently.  It's BYOB so definitely don't shy away from bringing wine, etc.  There is a nice list of alternate drinks you can order (speciality sodas, waters, etc).  I had a Gus' Ginger Ale and we all had tap water.  Overall, it was about what I expected.  Not a terribly polished dining experience but one with lots of potential.

The dinner menu is a fixed $30 for appetizer, entree and desert.  Pretty good deal for the portion size and quality of food.  There are some dishes that cost extra and it's noted on the menu but, at the same time, that makes for an awkward menu deciphering experience.  Otherwise, the ordering process is straightforward.

The bread and spreads were nice.  I had the lobster ravioli special appetizer which was nice but not fantastic.  Too much sauce and the sauce itself was nondescript.  The actual pasta was nice and the filling plentiful.

The wait between appetizer and entree, the subsequently entree to ordering desert was a bit too long.  This might've been b/c there was a large party in as well - the family of two of the wait staff.  So, essentially, two wait staff and one bus were working the entire restaurant.  Not a good ratio.

Our main courses were superb.  My sister's fish and chips was a bit heavy on the chip, light on the fish (only two small pieces) but my filet was excellent as was my grandmother's strip steak.

The nicest perk of the entire experience was french press coffee standard.  Desert underwhelmed.  The blood orange mouse fell a bit short, just being what seemed to be vanilla mouse and actual blood orange slices.  My sister's "key lime" cheesecake tasted like regular, albeit burnt, cheesecake.  My other sister and grandmother had a hazelnut chocolate cake that they said was excellent.

Overall positive experience.  I'd go back again in hopes that the entire experience will be a bit more polished on a regular business night (i.e. not a holiday and when they're fully staffed).  Beware though - casual conversation might be tough.  The space is small and if the dining room is at least 3/4 of the way full, it gets pretty loud in there.  It doesn't help that they pipe in music either.  Our table was right under a speaker that added to the noise level.

Bobby's Burger Palace

After a failed attempt at waiting in line at another BBP location in central NJ, I made the trip out determined to have a burger for dinner.

I eat out a lot, enjoy great food and have eaten at Bobby's restaurants before.  However, I'm a bit worried that Bobby forgot these were his restaurants.  From a marketing perspective, I understand what he's trying to do and kudos but the overall restaurant execution needs to be a bit better.

There was a long line out the door and a helpful employee directing people, handing out menus, etc.  I was able to slip inside and promptly place my order:  Napa, Onion Rings and Strawberry milkshake to go.

While I was waiting dutifully for my order, I observed.  The restaurant layout as a whole seemed like a horrible use of space and the big reason why I encountered enormous lines both times.  The kitchen seemed overwhelmed vs. the amount of people in-line and the # of people being served.

I was given my milkshake a while before the rest of my order and, I think, what I got was pre-made and had been sitting under heat for a while.  The onion rings were great, as was the shake but the burger was underwhelming.  Either because it had been sitting or b/c of the way it was wrapped, the sauce and cheese had been pushed to the sides.  Heavy on honey mustard up front and very little cheese until I got to the backside of the burger.  Also, the woman who took my order said they cook their burgers medium.  Mine was pretty well done.  Still flavorful and relatively moist - but well done.

Not a horrible experience but one that hopefully scales a bit better in the coming months.
