This museum is excellent. I just went there with my old friend yesterday and enjoyed seeing it very much. It is broken down into different sections mostly by nationality of the various peoples who settled the area, plus sections on veterans and local wildlife. It is in a nearly new building, is very informative and the people who run it are very nice. Admission is $6. It is supposed t be closed on Mondays but since there were people there working and they knew my friend they let us come in and walk around. If I lived in town I would be proud to bring out-of-town visitors here.

We just got back from this place and I must say I was impressed!  My friend and I split a mushroom and grilled onions half-pound hamburger and a "Blossom Onion" and both were excellent.  I only had a Blossom Onion once before at the Del Mar Fair years ago and it was a greasy mess that three of us couldn't finish without OD'ing on oil overdose and had no interest in ever getting one again.  This one was crispy and fresh and light and crunchy and very, very good.  The hamburger was $10 and the onion was $6.50,  The total meal was $25 before tip with my $5+ Guiness Ale, basically a meal for one person that we split so a little high priced but at least it was excellently prepared.  It seems to be a really popular place as it was quite busy for a Tuesday night andf thr parking lot was full.

Service was excellent.

I've eaten here twice this trip and just love it!  I had the Goat Curry the first time and Pork Jerk Dinner the second time. Both were huge and delicious!  I'll add more when I get back to San Diego with my own internet (I'm at the Chandler Library) but just wanted to get my 2-bits in for now.

This place had sort of an old time bar atmosphere, yet seemed new and trendy at the same time.  A group of us went here after the Yelp Elite Holiday Party and I was glad to finally experience the atmosphere that is Bar Pink.  There are pictures of pink elephants, a bright pink lighted Xmas tree, and other pink decorations throughout.  Drinks were about $6 each.   I had a Purple Hooter which was excellent.  If only the decor was based on purple instead of pink this place would have been perfect!

Street parking only as far as I could tell, a definite disadvantage.

This was probably a great party for those who arrived in a timely manner.  I on the other hand was running late due to getting home late from a shopping trip, getting lost finding the place and time taken looking for a parking place on a side street.  My fault totally.  The listing said it started at 6pm but didn't specify it ended at 8pm or I would have tried harder to wrap up my shopping and get an earlier start.   I didn't get to taste the food though it looks great in the photos.  I did get one drink before the ending time and it was good and plenty strong.   I missed seeing some of my friends who left before I got there but joined those who went down  to Bar Pink after, which I enjoyed.

Next time I will try to do better at getting there earlier.

Another good experience here the other day.  I got the Shrimp Tacos on the specials board outside which had very fresh and huge shrimp, a little spicy for my taste but top quality and so delicious.  Black beans and race on the side, I wish there had been a little more rice it was so good.

H got a combination club and said it was really good.  It came with the fruit  bowl on the side which was as fresh as ever.  The sandwich had turkey, ham, bacon, cheeses on a good rye bread.

The servers were pleasant, the price was right and we had a great lunch!

We had a great lunch here the other day.  It looks like they have ironed out the opening bugs.   I got the Lobster Quesadilla I saw on the specials board out front, H got his  usual, Turkey Club (doesn't he ever get  tired of it??).  Mine was chock full of lobster meat and real cheese with a side of yummy black beans , a little cup of mediocre salsa and sour cream.  There was some fresh parsley or cilantro on top, don't remember which.  The club sandwich was stuffed full of turkey and other ingredients and he chose the fresh fruit salad on the side which he said was wonderful, as it had been last time.  He counted about 10 different kinds of fruit in it and it was about the size of a cereal bowl, not one of those tiny bowls.  He said he'd come back just for the fruit salad!  Mine was delicious and there was enough to bring half home to eat tomorrow.  The service was perfect, friendly and prompt.  We were there near closing and as we were leaving the girl met us and another customer at the door with sandwich bags full of bakery goodies--two huge muffins and a couple of donut hole-type pastries in our goodie bag.  Now that's good PR and customer service!  We will definitely be going back.  I noticed they seem to have a lot of regular customers judging by the banter going back and forth.

I really don't like to give a bad review, but man, this place made a lot of mistakes today.

    H. calls and asks if I want to go out for lunch when he gets back from his bike ride.  Then he calls the 2 daughters, out running errands, to see if they want to join us, which they do.  I had scouted out the location, near where we live, a couple of days ago after hearing about it from a friend, and suggested we go there and try it, since it is new.   Their menu looked wonderful but they are only open till 3m so we headed right over there about 2:15pm, got there in 5 min and had our order placed by 2:30.  There were only 2 other people there and they already had their food.  About 3 other customers came in and ordered before the girls came in but I thought they'd get a head start on ours to save  time when the girls ordered.

When I ordered the soup and sandwich combo the clerk didn't seem to know what I meant.  I ordered the soup listed on the board of specials, tomato something, but she said, "Oh, we don't have the tomato today."  Well, then why is it on the board as the soup of the day?  Not, we just ran out, but we don't have that today.  Then she rang it up as $9.95 which I fortunately saw--it was $7.50 on the menu.  When I questioned it she said she would have to go check with the manager or something.  She had referred to the salad as Caesar salad but when I asked for that she said the Caesar wasn't one of the choices on the combo.  So I got the green salad with ranch.  H. got what he always gets, Turkey Club.

We didn't get our food till about two minutes till 3pm, nearly half an hour after ordering.  Everyone else had left the place.  I didn't notice she hadn't asked what kind of bread I wanted, though the menu stated "on your choice of bread".  What I got was either white or sourdough, toasted.  It was not burnt, but was so dry I could hardly bite thru it, like a slice of crouton textured bread.  No give at all.  The single tomato slice was not red, but more yellowish/green  and so thin I couldn't even taste it--you should be able to taste the tomato in a BLT!   The avocado was good, bacon a little overdone but not bad.  Everyone else got a pickle wedge but not me.  The pickle would have helped moisten each bite of dry bread.

Most of the salad was excellent and beautiful except the alfalfa sprouts which were old and stuck together in a clump.  They never did give me the cookie that was supposed to be included--I had to go back in and ask for it after we got out to the car and I realized it.  They were not rude, but said they were out of cookies.  I wouldn't have gotten anything except I asked if they could substitute something.  And they had not told me in advance they were out of cookies when I got the combo that included one.  She even asked me twice--I didn't give you one?  Uh, no.She gave me a muffin, then threw in another to make up for it which was nice.

    H. is an expert on Turkey Club sandwiches since he gets them so often.  He said it was not nearly as good as the ones he had gotten recently at the Lunch Box, another new little sandwich place down the street we have discovered lately.  Here, it came with a bowl of fruit that was beautiful and delicious, including strawberries, blueberries and black raspberries or something.  A real winner.

One daughter said her bread was also very dry.  She had asked for extra pickle and mustard on the side, but they didn't bring it till she reminded them.

The other daughter seemed to like her wrap a lot--and it was huge.  She said the fries were good too.

Their menu includes salads, wraps, burgers, omelets, gourmet coffees, and all kins of good sounding items.  If they can iron out the bugs they could be a wonderful place.  They were very polite and nice.    I do hope they will succeed!

The staff must be reading the Yelp reviews because we found both the lady server and the gentleman who may have been a manager or owner to be very friendly and attentive.  They seemed quite proud of their place.  They use Boars Head meats and cheeses, which shows in the quality of the sandwiches.

I got the Reuben Wrap  (they use 2 p's though I don't know why) with a side of Chicken and Dumpling soup.  Man that was good soup!  Flavorful and hardy, thick, not too salty, good amount of meat in it, and a good quantity for the price.  The wrap was short but very thick with Corned Beef, shredded cabbage, sauerkraut, and a thousand island dressing.  I only ate half and most of the soup to get full and brought the rest home for later.  The corned beef was so tender, no chewiness or gristle or fat in it, just thin sliced lean meat.

H got the Killer Klub of turkey avocado, bacon etc and pasta salad on the side.  He said it was very good, though not as good as the club sandwiches he gets at the Lunch Box and La Mesa Bistro down the street.  Both sandwiches were about $7.50 each and included the side of choice.  He did not like the pasta salad--"Too ranch-y" he said.  I tasted it and thought it was delicious so he packed it up and gave it to me to eat with my leftovers.  He had a taste of my soup and agreed it was exceptionally good and he wished he'd gotten it, too.

On the negative side, the pepper shaker was coated in stickiness, a phenomenon I have found in too many establishments (ranks up there with sticky remote controls in motel rooms).  And the trash container was also sticky to the touch and had dark visible fingerprints on it.  A turnoff implying lack of cleanliness.   Still, my overall impression was favorable. I also like that they are open till 5 pm, unlike so many of the delis that close at 2 or 3.

I liked the old-time pictures of the Del Coronado on the walls and the pretty mural of an old time trolley and station on the adjacent wall.  We will definitely be back here and wonder how we didn't try this place years before!

We have come here off and on over the years but hadn't been for a long time when we stopped in today.  The last time I came here it was for soup but I was told they didn't serve soup any more.  The girl referred me to the Trolley Stop Deli next door but it was Sunday and they were closed.  Today we were after sandwiches for lunch but saw none on the board when we walked in.  Sure enough they no longer serve them either.  So we went over to the Trolley Stop for wonderful sandwiches and will have to save this place for desserts only from now on.  There is a parking lot but the spaces are so close together that it is really hard to park in and even harder to back out, especially with a larger vehicle, but even with a regular sized car.

I'm giving it A-OK of three stars because what I saw was just that.  I'm sorry I didn't get to try their food and hope to go back for that sometime.  The bartender was cheerful, though we could hardly hear each other over the music.  The vodka drink was decent.  There wasn't much opportunity for conversation with my friends due to the aforementioned music volume.  The decor was okay.  It wasn't very big so I was glad I hit when it wasn't too crowded.  "The parking is terrible of course because it is such a busy area and there is only street parking, part of the reason I got there too late for the food.

Okay, 5 stars for the food and service.  But 0 stars for having the TV on loud so some friend or relative could sit there and watch it while we ate.  If I wanted to watch a crime show where a woman is getting murdered and/or worse and listen to her screaming in horror while I try to enjoy my delicious Lamb Dinner and Retsina wine, I could cook at home and watch TV in my living room.  And softly in the background, being drowned out by the loud TV show, were the strains of the wonderful Greek music I love, but could not hear and enjoy with my meal.

Oh, and since I'm mad about that I think I'll take off one more star because they no longer bring you that delicious bread and butter while you wait for your meal.  It sure would have tasted good with the  nice Greek salad they served  That used to be one of the things we loved about the place, their wonderful bread that tasted fresh out of the oven good.  Even the salad is much smaller than it used to be with only a sprinkle of Feta cheese, not the chunks it used to have, and one tiny olive compared to the 3 or 4 they used to put in.

I'll still  go back but I might walk back out and go to another place if the TV is on.  Since when do you favor the non-paying TV-watching buddy over the paying customer's enjoyment?  I know two stars is harsh, but "Meh, I've experienced better" does describe tonight's experience.

Be sure to read my original review to see how much I usually love this place.

My family just ate here again a couple of nights ago and it seems like each time it gets better! I had a craving for the moussaka and it was no disappointment--abso lutely delicious and very well seasoned! It was so hot that it was still steaming on the inside when I only had a fourth of it left and quit because I was full and wanted the fun of leftovers the next day (they didn't make it--I couldn't resist eating them later in the evening!).

I often have a glass of retsina with my meal though not that night but can attest to how good it is with the meal. The salad that came with the meal was perfect, the rice on the side is to die for. The only disappointments were that I didn't get any bread which was supposed to come with the meal and the waiter/cook/owner or whoever he was never came to our table once we got the food so I didn't get a chance to ask him about it. That didn't seem like good customer service but did teach me to speak up next time--he could have heard me across the room without sounding offensive since it is so small. And their bread is so good I should have said something. The other negative was the dessert--galaktobour eko--probably misspelled it but he did say I pronounced it right. I have had it here before but not for a couple of years. It was delicious before--awful this evening.

On a visit her about a month ago I got the lamb shank and it was about one of the best lamb dinners I'd ever had--even at the Greek festival I go to every year!  Another family favorite is the "Greek Burger"--not your average burger!  It is highly seasoned ground meat served with their delicious tsatsiki sauce on the side--soooo good!  If you like garlic this is the burger for you.  My son had the gyros, which I've never had there and said it is good--and he is kind of a picky eater.

We will continue to go back there to satisfy my love of Greek food, especially since the portions are generous and the prices are right.

Update 3/10/08  We came here again and had wonderful food again.  Husband had the "Special" of Pastitsio--a dish I am not especially fond of--but he gave me a corner of it to taste and I loved it!  I had the Grecian Burger and it was even better than I remembered!  They describe it as: Ground beef and lamb patty served on sesame bun.  Sound so plain but it has so much flavor! I also got the "fetishes" which is pita bread "stuffed with feta cheese then grilled" and served with tzatziki sauce.  Mmmmm.  Yummy.  Can't wait to go back again!

3/21 I had the chicken kabob sandwich--perfect!  Also a side of rice 'cause theirs is so good.  Husband had the daily special--kefta or similar name I think.  It was ground meat with parsley and onions, grilled  and on a pita with side dishes.  Again I had a taste and it was delicious!
