Unfortunately my last visit to Monsoon lasted a few more days then I had planned for. Something on the appetizer menu did not agree with me.

Won't be back anytime soon.

You pass by the fountain watching its spender, wander through the casino, the "O" theater, the retail shops, it all just feels so great. So the lodging experience has to be even better right?

Nope, keep walking. When do you realize this? It all starts with the check in experience. High brow hotel? High brow service? Nope, get in one of the random lines and pray you will get checked in. No one to direct you to an attendant, no one to organize the guests, just kinda figure out if you are in the "right line". In my opinion, not a good start, but I was still looking forward to relaxing in the room.

From there, while the room was nicely appointed, once you look past the glitter, it is just a basic room. Mine came with a slow running sink and well used towels. Not my idea of a 5 star hotel.

Clearly the big plus is the location, but that has a bit of a downside too. I found getting in and out of the hotel parking area was problematic because of the foot traffic on the Blvd. Big glitter, big hotel and I would stop at big disappointment, but clearly a disappointment.

When things go dark and you are struggling to find the right light bulb to brighten your night, Lincoln Wholesale Electric might be just the place to find that odd bulb at a very fair price.

I just walked by Cynthia's on the Corner, previously Grateful Bread and much to my Surprise, Stefan from Top Chef is taking over the space.  Fabio watch out !

Very helpful and friendly staff (be patient if they are helping others), their luggage is fairly priced and the Briggs & Riley luggage comes with lifetime service. I had a zipper go out on a bag I bought here and they fixed it without any trouble at all.

You will not find Home Depot type waits or selection, however, what you will find is a family owned business where the staff is generally friendly and always knowlegable. I find the selection to be very good for most of your needs and being local is a big plus.

Keep in mind they are a bit expensive because they are not buying huge volumes like HD, however, for a quick fix and easy parking, Fisher will satisfy your needs.

Come for the Bar, stay for the Food.

This is exactly what we did, wandering the local neighborhood we noticed the hopping bar and decided it was time for a drink or ten.  

Based on the crowd and great atmosphere, we decided to stay for a bite to eat. Honestly, we had no idea what type of food was being served (I suppose without the 4th drink we would have surmised from the decor), we took the lazy route often traveled by patrons of this restaurant and went with the tasting menu (as some of the yelpers have noted, it really is just tasting sized servings as well). I was even lazier and allowed the waiter to go with his favorites.

With a bottle of wine for the table, great company and sharing what life had brought us over the past year, my friend and I totally enjoyed the experience. The waiter was spot on, just attentive enough but not annoying, the restaurant is comfortable and the food was great.

Don't expect any fanfare with Maki Yaki, however, if you are Jonseing a local, quick, Japanese fix, this is your place.
