Too many employees smoking right next to the open door in the back, smoke wafting in constantly.
No sense of customer service at all. 30 minutes before closing, the barista on duty is putting up chairs and mopping constantly. No eye contact, no "how's your night", no courtesy to customers. To boot, while she's mopping, with her back turned to everyone, she yells at the top of her lungs:
"We Close in 30 minutes!!!!!!"
Scared the heck out of me!
Then she goes back to mopping. Back turned to everyone.
I get the grunge and anarchist lifestyle. More power to you. But make people feel welcome, will you?
I can now go home and make my own coffee this late at night.

First off, this is a great place if you need to get coffee late at night! They stay open until 1am! Yay!
I couldn't complain about the coffee, nor could I say it was spectacular either. Your average coffee fair I'd say.
I did like all the assortment of people, the diversity, and how it was a gathering place for young and old. Friendly people who will let you share the booth with them when there's no more space. Lots of folks with laptops and books so you know that ideas are brewing in the space! I like that!
They need a furniture upgrade, some new paint, and some "cleanup" of the decor and atmosphere of the building though. It's gettin' a bit crumbly. Also, I didn't like the staff seemingly rushing me out the door by scurrying around cleaning up, wanting to take away your latte that you are savoring that's "not quite done" and acting like you are less of a customer and more of an obstacle for them getting the heck out as soon as possible. Seriously, coffee shop employees - you'll get better tips and return customers if you also take an interest in the customer when you are coming around to clean up. Ask how their doing, say thanks, act casual, and smile.

The location can't be beat either! Come here after the gym, or before going to Trader Joe's! It's all the benefits of Starbucks in a friendly and slightly upscale block, but at the same normal prices.
The staff does a great job, and really, you hardly know they are there when you find a spot by the fireplace. I'd bring a friend here for a great conversation! Some cozy nooks here and I'd say it's busy but never overly crowded.

As always, the food is great, staff is friendly, and you even get personal hands on service and conversation from the owners when they are there! Sure the prices are higher, but the place is special.

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because on occasion their internet is slow or out, and it appears that it's tough to get a decaf brewed coffee after 9pm. Pet peeve of mine is coffee shops that cut all the corners so employees can get the heck out of dodge in 5 minutes or less after close. No one likes vaccuum cleaners running an hour before close or to see employees buzzing around putting chairs on top of tables way early in the evening. Makes you feel less welcome.

Spyhouse Coffee Shop

So I simply ordered a medium decaf (at least they had splenda!), but it took them 10 minutes to make it and it was $3. Apparently they only do french press (and at a premium), which they only told me AFTER I came back to ask where my drink was.
Music is way too loud and obnoxious. They used to have what I wanted, but now they don't.

The food was better than good! I'd give it an 8 out of 10. The service was excellent, and the prices were great. Free chips and salsa too. The place was packed with lots of friendly people of all ages. A nice night out!
