Crepes Bonaparte

Finally a crepe food truck that does not rob you blind with ridiculous mark-up prices!

It was a lovely surprise to witness a vast array of food trucks lined in campus to celebrate the grand opening of CSUN's new state-of-the-art recreational center.

After carefully analyzing historical events in class and determining the key differences between the Early Modern European Period and the Modern European Period, I decided to treat myself to a delectable French dessert. I approached the well-decorated vehicle and ordered a dessert crepe entitled HazelBerryAna which consisted of strawberry, banana & nutella with vanilla ice cream (a killer combination if I do say so myself) for an overwhelmingly acceptable price of $6.50! The crepe overall was absolutely 100% worth it, 95% of the time!

So let it be known across the land, if you ever see this fine motorized establishment literally pass you by, then I strongly urge you to "legally" do anything at your disposal to halt its destination so that you may immediately travel the road of tastiness with little-to-no detours.

California Sushi & Teriyaki

USC must really stand for University for Spoiled Children because they are most definitely spoiled by the wonderful delights of Cali Sushi & Teri!

After spending a lovely afternoon in Exposition Park, my girlfriend and I were famished up the ying-yang! So I quickly popped-out my handy Yelp app and discovered that a brand new Sushi restaurant had opened near the area.

Once we arrived to the clean and well-lit establishment, our focus was simple: to satisfy our never-ending Sushi hunger. We ordered the #90, a bowl which consisted of teriyaki chicken, white rice and noodles along with 10 pieces of California Rolls.

Complete satisfaction was achieved with the first bite due to the fact that the bowl was extremely warm. I love my food to be hot and this, my non-friends-friends was adequate beyond belief.

The meal alone made the experience worthwhile but towards the end of our venture, what appeared to be the manager and/or owner approached us and gave us each a mug with the Cali Sushi & Teri logo on it to honor their grand opening. It was the icing on the mochi ball.

All in all, it is a shame that I do not live nearby, otherwise every week I would have been calling this place my local sushi fix eatery but perchance if you 'do' live nearby and can afford an annual tuition cost of $ 42,000 then by all means, bookmark this restaurant "to try" immediately.

I can finally notify friends and family that I have been to Paris!

I recently took a trip to Las Vegas to get my mind off of the hectic fall semester I endured at CSUN (Go Matadors!) and unsurprisingly was able to pass all of my classes and maintain a lovely GPA at a respectable level. So indeed I had many choices to decide upon but in the end, it was good ol' Las Vegas aka Sin City aka The City that Never Sleeps aka The Big Easy! Alas, I packed by bags, travelled 300+ miles without the unexpected wonderment of 'Fear and Loathing' episodes and spent a few nights at the heartland of Nevada.

Of course while there, one of the few casinos I wanted to immediately visit was none other than Paris itself! Once I self-parked, I ventured over to where the boys are separated from the men. Where one wrong move can emphasize your entire trip and where the clouds do not move at all!

Since this was my first time, I wanted to put it all on the table and go high! I had my lovely girlfriend by side and my favorite anti-dousche  jacket on. I was feelin' lucky.

I began to feed the machine a barrage of US currency, betting MAX all the way because that's the way I 'roll.'I looked to my left. I looked to my right. Everything was moving along quite nicely until I noticed that all of my $15 were gone and that my girlfriend had actually won $4. Soon after, I retired from the world of amateur gambling and travelled on home, a road long divided...

All in all, this shindig wasn't that bad. As always expect long lines for the buffet and do you really need to buy that $50 souvenir?!

The Boiling Crab

I hereby send a proclamation across the land, that all men should equally venture into this establishment and gaze upon the delicious wonders that is The Boiling Crab... if you're a fish enthusiasts of course.

Let me immediately declare that I am not quite keen with consuming something that still has their eyes intact so I was mildly pessimistic in choosing a "veteran" meal such as the crawfish (they seem to meet the 'veteran' standards in my point-of-view).

So instead I took the cowards-- easy  way out and ordered everything fried, ranging from the shrimp to the oysters and my-oh-my was I glad I made that incredibly brave decision because as soon as they had brought the crawfish to my beautiful girlfriend, I knew I couldn't have handled them due to my immense fear of well, you know...

I believe that phobia manifested itself at the young age of 8 when I was optionally tortured to eat a somewhat entire lobster with its eyes in place! I vowed from them on to become the next blue Power Ranger as well as to never eat anything with eyes staring back at me again.

All in all, if you love to wait endlessly to be seated and consume food with bibs and stare at meaningless graffiti on the walls then this is the place for you!!!

Pershing Square - Downtown on Ice

After carefully experiencing my second attempt at ice skating, I am proud to say that my bones continue to remain intact and non-fractured.

I was born in the greatest city in the world, Los Angeles, home of the 16-time World Champions Los Angeles Lakers and a week ago from precisely 1-2pm I was subjected to hang on for my dear life! In the end, my ass was sore-free; but my right arm sustained most of the damage from the jaws-of-life grips I was enforcing onto the walls. Every moment was a matter of life or death as I tried to seize everything at my disposal to not plummet to the cold and melted ice whether it was my beautiful born in Los Angeles, home of the 6-time World Champions Los Angeles Dodgers girlfriend who seemed like Kristi Yamaguchi gliding away with essence or the little kids near my reachable radius, I thank them for saving me from complete and utter soreness.

I was surprisingly surprised the amount of encouragement I was receiving from my fellow Angelinos to continue my steady but improved pace and for 40 feet I was able to roughly pass-on by without deep-clawing the wall. So I thank them as well which is something that I am sure you do not acquire in the East with their lame Celtics.

It was a lovely experience and I recommend it to anyone who has premium health insurance. Go Lakers!

La Naranja Taqueria Restaurant

As I sit here with a glass of wine on my hand and my guilty conscious on the other, I am reminded of the lonely night I stumbled into Naranja Taqueria 100% sober and ordered five of the most delicious $1 tacos the greater Boyle Heights had to offer.

It was love at second bite as I mercilessly devoured five of the biggest small tacos the west of the Mississippi presented.

I would travel miles and miles on end (precisely 2.4 miles) to once again experience the subtle pleasures of well-cooked meat. My only fear is that I would have discovered a better $1 taco joint or I would have run out of gas but a man can only keep his faith in the whereabouts of his gas tank but I digress.

All in all if you live within the area and want to pay $5-7 on tacos because it will probably take that many to fill you up (gas tank call-back) then by all means come down to Orange Takery - if not for the tacos then for the giant mirror on the wall. It feels as if you're watching two televisions!

This Thai Deli used to have a little - now it has a lot!

No matter where I go - I know where I can get that double mac' bought!

Alondra Hot Wings

For years my friends have been proclaiming that Alondra's Hot Wings are the best in town but I simply snickered at them and laughed with great ease... but all of my 4 perceptions were altered indefinitely that cold and windy dreary night when I came across thy best wings in town!

That 12-hr* wait was 99.9% worth it because when I first took that first bite into them mouth-watering wings, my life was complete. I felt a sudden sense of accomplishment that my soon to be acquired 4-year college degree at California State University Northridge could never compete with or even come close to it! I immediately wanted to jump from my table and kindly harass the chef to be my own personal chef for all eternity but at the thought of being ridiculed, I held back with great discontent; mostly because I did not have a substantial amount of US currency to obtain such a valuable "necessity."

In the end, I can only dream of the day when I venture into Alondra's soul... to reinvigorate my lost desire for the best barbeque in town with a delectable touch of supreme nachos and to ultimately quench it down with a jar o' lemonade. I am eternally yours... or until I find another wing joint.

*It wasn't that long but geesh, it's pretty long.

Zencu Sushi & Grill

What was highly recommended by schoolmates after viewing a documentary in Biology about the ever-imminent declination of fish in the world's seas - turned out to be tremendous disappointment.

I love the Little Tokyo surrounding area but my main frustration is the lack of great sushi establishments from 9pm and above. My favourite restaurant (Sushi & Teri) closes a little earlier than expected. I've tried other places such as Tenno Sushi but have come displeased with their rude manner. But when my schoolmate recanted me stories of a wonderful restaurant on the 2nd floor of the village - I was once again hooked!

But when you automatically charge a bar fee, then all hell breaks loose. Who in their right mind charges a bar fee?! Out of all of the 5 sushi restaurants I have stepped foot in, 'this' was the first time someone charged a service fee for making California Rolls! Oh, the inhumanity! Rosa Parks must be spinning in her grave!

All in all, the rolls were acceptable and the salmon was ok but if you want cheap and delectable sushi at reasonable prices, just head on over to Sushi & Teri, ya hear?

Porto's Bakery & Cafe

0 hour. 10am. I arrive at my local Porto's with an empty stomach but with a full demeanor.

I am recanted of their extravagant deli menu. After 5 minutes of deliberation, I decide to order a chicken sandwich along with a horchata smoothie due to my love affair with horchata. 5-10 minutes my precise order had arrived. 10-15 seconds I notice these banana-like chips next to my sandwich. I am dumbfounded.

6.2 seconds later I put a banana chip in my mouth and at that fixed moment in the Hunab K'u Milky Way Galaxy I experience euphoria. There have been only been 2 other moments where I reached that similar feat, the first when I first gazed eyes into my present girlfriend. And the second, when Jack said, "We have to back, Kate... WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!"

I do not have the slightest clue what secret ingredient they put in them darn chips* but I am in love! Move over Gerber, there is a new king of bananas!
