Was a customer for about two years with only a savings account; no problems.
Opened a joint checking account, moved over my direct deposit from work, the whole nine yards. Within a month, I had four NSF fees!
How did this happen? Well, it turns out the Golden One has this confusing (to me) idea of "public" versus "private" account numbers. I used the "public" account number to set up payment transfers to my other financial accounts (credit cards, savings, and so forth). Unfortunately, the "public" account number, by default, actually withdraws from savings, instead of checking. Oops--I had loaded my checking account with funds, expecting the funds to be withdrawn from that account.
In both cases, enough funds were in one account or the other to cover the withdrawn funds. Golden One customer service just didn't care--they will not waive NSF fees unless "they" make a mistake. No compassion, no love, not even for newbie mistakes. And right before Christmas, in this economy, when $100 means a lot!
Also docking the Golden One for just an awful, awful online banking experience. It forced me to reset my password *every* time. Just painful to use.
So--I am through with the Golden One.
