Cracovia Restaurant & Bar

After driving past Cracovia a half million times driving down Wadsworth I finally convinced Michelle to go.

I was a little intimidated having never eaten at a polish restaurant yet with the help of our server we we're able to navigate their large menu with ease. (+1 Star) It being our first dip in the polish pool We chose traditional dishes, Kielbasa and Cabbage Rolls. Also to my surprise they also had a small selection of polish beers! (+1 Star) Michelle loved the Perla Polish Pilsner and now I can't find it anywhere around town :(

The kielbasa tasted just made fresh (+1 Star) and Michelle enjoyed the cabbage rolls  with mushroom sauce. after dinner we also sampled some of their dessert offerings I had the Pczki or traditional polish doughnuts very tasty (+1 Star)

Overall the food was good there was a large selection and the price was ok I would definitely recommend this unique eastern european offering!

Michelle and I visited La Casa Del Rey on the recommendations of Co-Workers which reminded me why I trust Yelpers more!

When I was told a magical tale of how wonderful LCDR was and on and on they went, so you can see how I was lulled into a false sense of epicurean safety.

As we drove deeper and deeper into the smelly heart of Commerce City, the lull of David after the Dentist like droning of  "Yeah you should definitely try it " started to wear off and we actually started to become concerned to be in such an unfamiliar place. When we finally happened upon the location the lack of streetlights and the unfamilar neighborhood made me wonder about the safety of my vechile.

Aside from the seedy location (-1 Star) we were seated fast and the in house Mariachi made it all the more inviting (+1 Star). It was my impression they didn't have A/C by the astronomical number of ceiling fans. That being said you may want to avoid them during the dogs days of summer.

Our waitress was very prompt and friendly (+1 Star) she helped us navigate their large menu. After finishing our one and only free bowl of chips and salsa, house rules?  We ordered Margaritas, and after disappearing with my ID? returned with something that tasted like Gatorade and Tequila? Michelle's Strawberry flavored Marg was actually quite tasty but my Y chromosomes will not allow me to order fruity drinks. (-1 Star)

Our order came out suspiciously fast actually beat our appetizer to the table it tasted good although I have to melt of the last (-1 Star) for smothering what's supposed to be a crispy Chicken Chimichanga with copious amounts of sauce.

To sum it up If you live in Commerce City, first of all sorry, but this may be an excellent local choice for Mexican food. If you live in any of the surrounding area's I really don't believe it's worth the drive. (30mins for me) Stick with your local favorite which for me is Efrain's (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

I can honestly say that I feel truly sorry for those who rated this place so highly. Their taste buds may explode if they ever experienced what homemade Chinese food and sauces tastes like.

That said, like an elderly person answering a telemarketer's call, I fell for the menu I received in my mailbox. Maybe it was the photos of the owner with President Bush or the fact it was freezing outside and the wife wanted a big ol' bowl of Wonton, I was weak. I told her we should go for lunch, that way you can sample the menu at a reduced price taking advantage of combo's and specials. Anyone would understand us falling for it, and let me tell you the three raving reviews about this place on yelp only made justifying it worse.

I don't mind taking one for the team every now and then, and I know I am not the only person in Broomfield to have received their awe inspiring menu in the mail. So let this serve as your official warning if it's not heeded I can not be held responsible.

The Food:
It comes from a Can! I know there's skeptics out there that would never believe that at this very moment there are millions of cans of crappy Chinese food lining the shelves of mediocre / opportunistic restaurants out there. Believe me you can taste the difference. I'll start with the Wonton soup, a bowl of viscous yellow liquid adorned with limp dumplings served lukewarm. I'm not an expert per se on all things wonton but I have made it at home before. ( Which by the way is really easy to make and a lot lower in sodium than the alternative See http://allrecipies.com) How exactly do you serve a cold bowl of wonton without cabbage, bok choy, green onions, twice cooked pork slivers, etc.? Easy, pour it out of a can heat very gently and serve.

Following our terrible soup would be the oily meatless eggrolls, Mmmm Seriously I thought I had passed out and woke up in a vegan's dream come true, a meatless fantasy filled with a bland tofu like array of anti-epicurean delights. WAKE UP! I may be alone in this but an eggroll should have some form of protein inside, deep fried shredded lettuce encased in an oily wrapper is not exactly what I secretly fantasize about.

I have truly saved the best for last, how would you feel if I told you the wife had their "World Famous" Sesame Chicken and I went all Panda Express and tried the Orange Chicken only to find THEY TASTE EXACTLY THE SAME. No, no this cant be right, I tell myself as I continue to sample both plates at frantic pace. How could this be, they should be worlds apart. The answer lies in the fact that both sauces probably came from the same can. I will admit this, the pieces of "chicken" were eerily crispy, I mean we're talking KFC extra crispy style swimming in brown goo, It honestly defies all properties of food physics. I found myself trying more and more of this mediocre chow just to experience the unbelievable.

The Service:
Excellent, hence the single lonely star floating in a sea of possibility. After all that I could find nothing wrong with the presentation and service. That's what makes it so hard the verbally berate such nice folks, It's times like these I say shut up passive aggressive voice in my head and report the facts. They wear uniforms! They keep your water glass full, we all know how salty Chinese food can be it helps to follow each serving with a full glass of water. The tea was piping hot which astonished me in light of our soup.

Summary:
If you're in the mood for greasy salty canned food presented by well dressed polite servers have at it. They don't deliver so you will have to experience their Miami Vice decor in person. My pounding headache is screaming MSG and I have a strange urge to chase the mailman. Thanks Heaven Dragon!

The service is prompt and attentive food was mediocre mex. I ordered the grilled sirloin burrito which was swimming in more sauce than anything else. Dos Equis and Stella on tap were a plus.

Well made Pho, The wife hates Pho, actually refers to it as "Pond Water" so I like to drag her in as much as possible :) That said I enjoyed my soup The staff was very nice and easy to understand. The rare steak Pho was just right, they also will deliver up to two miles which isn't very far but good to know.

This place is awesome we spent nearly 2 hours wandering the aisles trying in vain to deduce what exactly we were looking at, was thoroughly amused at the sight of head on deep fried duck and fresh raw chicken claws. To each his own, I think it's cool if you're in to say chicken claw ala King you have such a convenient outlet to get said item. I almost wish they offered guided tours, I'd pay to learn about all the new and exotic eats!

Pho as expected, The wife hates Pho, actually refers to it as "Pond Water" so I like to drag her in as much as possible :) That said I enjoyed my soup with extra meat it was very hearty and just as good as the original down in Denver. Service was fine actually someone spoke English wish helps the newcomer. I haven't tried the place next door or across the street but if you are heading over to Pacific Ocean Market to get your Chicken Claws you might as well stop in Pho 79!

You Don't Get What you Pay For.

What's worse than a $400 bill for dinner? Leaving hungry, I kid you not my wife and I stopped at a fast food place after dinner. Dont get me wrong the food was well prepared but I just couldn't find something I had to have off their very limited menu. I'm not kidding the building isn't the only thing that's small, try 8 entree selections 4 of which are either seafood or vegetarian. I don't know many vegan's that would pay $28 for a plate of rabbit food (sorry in advance) but I digress. So one star for service and one for having the guts to finally stick it to all those underpaying vegetable eaters out there.

Ok so the long and short of it is that I cannot see a reason why anyone would fork over so much money for food in Boulder and not be at the Flagstaff House? Unless your car couldn't make it up there but that's a bigger problem.

PS Since I'm erked about paying a car note's worth of money for three miniture stuffed pork medallions and two tablespoons of mashed potatoes, I'll leave you with this gem:

Anyone that combines "Best Steak in ______" with "Filet Mingon" obviously has never experienced a well aged cut of USDA Prime Beef marbled with fatty goodness.

Very Disappointing.

My Family ate here this evening after reading some of the other reviews and wound up very disappointed. After waiting an over an hour for our food to arrive, my $17 Pollo Provinciale (prosciutto wrapped chicken breast, sausage, asiago cheese, and sundried tomato in a black ale honey sauce) arrived dry as a bone obviously the effects of several minutes sitting under a heat lamp. They blamed the wait on running out of pasta? Seemed strange for an Italian Restaurant? After waiting a few minutes the server returned to replace my entree and after a few more minutes a fresh one which tasted much better arrived but the damage was already done my family was done eating and had to sit and wait for me to finish. They were nice enough to remove my entree from our then $70 bill and gave us a $10 gift card which I doubt will be used for a return visit. I wouldn't wait an hour for my meal at the flagstaff house let alone an Italian Restaurant in a strip mall in Louisville.

Pros:
Reasonable Prices, Excellent Bread, Very impressive selection of Wine, 10 years in business.

Cons:
Slow Service, Slow Kitchen, Mediocre Sauce.
