What a surprise! A very metropolitan restaurant in the 'burbs. L'eiffel has an impressive menu including grass-fed beef and free range chicken. I had a wonderful combination in a savory crepe of chicken, ratatouille and goat cheese: La Pagnol. The rolls and the sun-dried tomato olive tapenade were fabulous! We sat on the patio and enjoyed a glass of Bordeaux on a lovely July evening. There is music on Thursdays, which lured us in, but we couldn't hear it from the patio. On our way out we had to weave our way though a Mambo-ing crowd! We picked up brochures for upcoming wine tastings and a Bastille Day special. What a find!
The Palatine French Farmer's Market is on Saturday mornings near the train station. I like that I can get sustainably farmed buffalo meat and produce. I've been picking up my herbs from there in the spring. The nut and fruit loaded pumpernickel bread from High Rise Bakery in Chicago has become a staple. And there's music! If I'm home on a Saturday, I'm there!

Neighborhood: The Loop
One word...strawberries! Those large berries we get from California have nothing on the ones at this market! I live in Palatine and, though our French Market is improving by leaps and bounds every year, I'm often not home on Saturdays. Plus, by Saturday morning my meals are planned and the shopping done! I like that the Daley Plaza market is on Thursdays, and that it's on my way to work. Stop in the morning so that you get the best selection, but go at the end of the day for flowers...they tend to lower the price!
