2 Cats
Categories: Coffee & Tea, Breakfast & Brunch
2 Cats has good food and unlike some more popular brunch establishments, you won't feel bad 1) spending less than $5 or 2) lingering.
Sure, you can get lobster eggs benedict but you can also have pastry and coffee in a cool atmosphere. Bonus for actually having cats milling around and the outdoor seating option.

Pancho Villa's Tex-Mex Restaurant
Category: Tex-Mex
The place is cheerily decorated and the people who run it are fantastic.
Have the nachos and definitely a margarita. And feel free to linger here, at the bar or at your table, since it's away from the Bar Harbor bustle but still close enough to walk back to where you are staying in town. (Full disclosure, it is two blocks from my apartment so I may be giving it some additional points for being in a great location for me!)

Rupununi An American Bar & Grill

The terrace is the biggest and has the best view of passing tourists. The hostesses are kind of snobby, perhaps to give it the allure of cool or perhaps they are used to dealing with rude tourists.
The place gets a few points for allowing you to have your dog there (at least, I've seen a couple dogs there but haven't brought mine).
On the suggestion of my friend Nick, I tried their donuts. And I don't even like donuts. Between this place and Pectic Seafood, I am now an official homemade donut fan. For lunch (not the same day), I had mussels steamed in something excellent.
Even though in Northeast Harbor, the price is certainly affordable and the ambiance is relaxed and makes you want to linger. I'll be back.
Also the establishment gets huge props for 1) having cool people work there (full disclosure: a few of my friends either work there or have worked there) and 2) making you turn off your cell phone when you are in there. We need more cell free zones in the world and, if accompanied with pastry, even better.

It gets points for having a nice lady who works there that helped me with a malfunctioning machine once but this place is a little steep for what it provides in my opinion.
