Wholesome food at wholesale prices! No need to sacrifice quality for value. Eat here! I know that sounds like an ad but I come here whenever in the area. Haven't tried the burgers but I have worked my way through the breakfast menu and it rawks.

House of Wah Sun

As a kid who grew up in the neighborhood of Chicago that this restaurant is in, I can say that I literally grew up on this food. Since moving to Cali and trying the more traditional fare in SF and LA, I have to say, comparing Wah Sun to that is like comparing apples and oranges. Wah Sun is not really traditional, but is is good food in it's own right.

We used to order from the small walk-in take out store front they occupied before expanding into the current restaurant, so like i said, I grew up in this stuff. When I got older and started to go to the sit down place, the family still remembered my last name, from when we order take out and greeted me warmly. When I go back to Chicago to visit, this is one of the few places for my youth that is still open and therefore, that I still visit.

If painfully slow service with over-priced mediocre food as the pay-off is your cup of tea (enough mixed metaphors?) then this is the place for you. Otherwise, try about 100 other places within driving distance of this joint for a better experience all around.

The burgers here are thick and juicy, very hearty indeed. My only complaint is that the bun was a standard white/cheap sesame bun, found in any fast food joint and it wasn't toasted. Even the plain bun would have been better toasted. Everything else was top notch. If you go there, request your bun to be toasted.

Good prices and service too.
