I was surprised, there was a bunch of people already there. People like the morning shabu! Anyways, I thought we would just share the sumo again like last time. But I wanted the shabu and he wanted sukiyaki. So I asked if that was okay, and our server said it would be fine. But the $5 splitting fee only included rice and sauces...no veggies. I explained when I came in last time that we split it and from my understanding it came with veggies too. I was a bit confused and she tried to explain it to me that this has always been the policy...but I somehow felt ripped off. But I couldn't have my meal without the veggies...so I ordered another veggie plate too ($3.99). I still didn't understand what the server was saying but just went with whatever she suggested (she wasn't the same friendly girl I always see, I think I like the nighttime crew better)
So I've realized that I enjoy the ponzu sauce here and not the goma sauce...but damn my breath stank of garlic afterwards. I just can't get enough of it.
At the end...our bill...I didn't get it...she didn't add the $5 and she added my rice/veggies/sauce separately. Perhaps this is what she was trying to tell me. I have no idea. But at the end it only came out a couple dollars more than last time.

So I'm docking one star for all the confusion and not being consistent with pricing.

Ever since my first shabu experience here at Yojie's I've been back twice and tried the shabu bar! Currently I'm shabu'd out ... who am I kidding, give me a week and I'll be ready for more shabu.
But this review is for the sukiyaki. The first time I came here I tried the shabu. This time I was ready to try something new. So we ordered the sukiyaki ... whats the difference? I'm no expert, this is just what I noticed:
- no water, just a sweet concentrated broth.
- No ponzu and goma sauce
- There is an egg - you scramble it up and use it to dip the meats and veggies...helps with cooling it down (as advised by our server)
and everything else is the same. You get your meat and veggies to swish and swash to your little shabu shabu's heart desire. I'd have to say I like it as well. The sweetness is different, but it's delicious. The sasquatch liked it too, which is very rare because he usually doesn't like asian food in general (he's a hamburger or pizza kind of guy).
The best part about Yojie's is the fact that you can share...we ordered the Sumo and split it. There is an extra $5 splitting fee for the rice and veggies. But it's totally worth it and just the right amount for two.
I also like the fact that you have the choice to order different amounts of meat, just in case you weren't super hungry, you can just order a small 3 oz up to a 12 oz sumo!
You'll also love the service. Our server was the sweetest girl, she's super friendly and explained everything to us and answered all our questions. Everytime I've come to Yojie's she's been working and I always forget to get her name, but she's cute and sweet!
So all together, I'm going to still give this place 5 stars. I enjoyed the sukiyaki, the service and the choices in the menu. -

Yo yo yo! Yeah, I'll skip out on my freestyle rapping...but Yojie's was a big 5 stars for me!
I had such a great time here at Mariah's birthday UYE. Shabu shabu is like being a kid again, where you can play with your food. The waitress was super friendly with explaining everything and they were very accomodating for a large group, even Carlos who came late! What a cool place.
The food: I got the Samarai beef shabu shabu!! My water started boiling, I added some garlic and chili oil and soy sauce! Then added my veggies...I dunno if it was right or not, I just followed what everyone else was doing. Then the meat!! Splish splash! My beef was taking a hot water bath! The swishing was fun. The meat was good. The sauces were good.
Overall I loved this place and will definitely be back to try some other dishes and for more beef swishing!
So I came to Mom's because it was close to work. This is my first time here, the ladies behind the counter are nice, friendly and welcoming(+1 star).
The donuts are okay...they've got all your standard donuts that you'll find at a typical donut shop. I just got a dozen of the regular donuts which was $8.50 (a bit pricey if you ask me, thats more than my beloved Goody's and krispy kremes).
But the donuts were decent. I had a maple frosted one and it was a bit crispy which I liked (+1 star). The maple bar was eh...nothing special. I didn't try any of the specialty donuts such as the bearclaws and apple fritters. Perhaps next time.
I think this is the closest one to my work, if it wasn't for that, I don't think I'll be returning...a bit overpriced.

Santa Monic Blvd. was packed. Getting there was a major bitch. We expected traffic...but not that much traffic, maybe because Halloween this year fell on a Saturday. But literally we were in the car for over 3 hours. Finally we found a parking lot for $30 (I would have paid $50 just to get outta of the traffic) plus it was up a hill towards Sunset! So you can just imagine my feet on the way back I was dying.
The bars were packed. We were able to get into one of the smaller bars and had some cocktails and jell-o shots! yum. We even found a very cool cigar store. Overall I'm taking off one star for the parking situation. Next year I'm definitely doing public transportation if possible.
So whats in store for next years costumes??? I wanna do Jem and the Holograms...anyone? anyone?

This was my first year attending this event. I would have to say it was such a great experience. Tons of people...great costumes, very very creative. I went as the "i-pod commercial" with my girlfriends...it was a blast. I would have to say some of my favorite costumes for the night were:
1. Venus and Serena Williams hacking it out with each other...sound effects and jumping and slamming rackets...it was great!
2. The Mario Kart Gang - Nintendo is always a good thing
3. Russia - They can see Alaska and Sara Palin...they were so funny, but they should have done a Russian accent instead of asian one
4. The bumper cars
All the outfits were great...this will definitely be something I will try to make every year. It was such a fun atmosphere...no drama...just people having a good time. The best part about the whole thing was everyone was NO on 8 and for Obama...it's just a relief for me because I get so frustrated living out by OC where there are Yes on 8 posters everywhere you turn.
Definitely come early because parking is a bitch...and I would try to incorporate comfy shoes in the outfit, because it is a lot of walking. Bring a camera...bring some water...and look good!
So...when you walk in, apparently you are suppose to pick up a menu and seat yourself?? There was a small sign that explained it. So we grabbed a menu and made our way outside to some free table. It took awhile until our server came to get our order. I was actually wondering if she ever was going to come out. (minus one star for slow service)
The outdoor patio chairs are a bit uncomfortable and the tables are a bit small. (minus another star)
What about the food?? good question...I really don't remember much besides the fact that we got nachos that were fairly decent size and good. If your ever craving some nachos late at night in Santa Ana, I would suggest Gypsy Den. The coffee?? I don't remember what I ordered, maybe I got tea...perhaps I just got water...I have no idea. Next time I'll be back and I'll have some tea or coffee to redeem myself. For now, I'm giving them 3 stars = live music, comfy decor (inside), decent late night food.
I'm not a huge fan of pho and I'm not a huge fan of vietnamese food to begin with because I had a bad experience from a restaurant that made me ill ... if you get my drift and ever since then I try to stay away. But I think after several years of avoiding it...it's time for me to face my fears and dive back into the land of pho!
My coworker mentioned how this place has good pho, so I decided to get the special combo (Large) I was starving. We also ordered the eggrolls. The food came pretty fast and I thought it was pretty good. Sometime is always comforting about having noodles for me. The bowl was packed with noodles and all sorts of meats which I have no idea what they were...but I ate it all. Everything was delicious. The eggrolls were pretty average, nothing special. I'm skipping eggrolls next time and trying something else. The menu had a bunch of other stuff I wanted to try as well...the broken rice...the pasta dishes...I will definitely be back to try them.
Thank you Pho Bac for making my re-entering into the pho world a good experience (aka...I did not get "ill"!! Yippee).
I got the bacon turkey avocado sub...with some shredded lettece and tomatoes. Not too shabby. It was exactly 3 stars = A-OK. The lady behind the counter taking orders was nice and I think it is Korean owned, because then a few Korean gentlemen in suits came by and the lady from the back came out and took orders in Korean. So this place is apparantly Korean friendly if you only speak Korean, which comes in handy when in Cerritos.
If you want an alternative to subway, then this would be it. But I think I like subway slightly more. Sorry TJ...just being honest.

Shabu Shabu Bar
Categories: Japanese, Wine Bars, Ethnic Food
It's located in a fairly new strip mall right next to Chipotle and L&L. But it's not your average little strip mall eatery. Once you walk in you feel like your in an upscale trendy lounge. Where's the bouncer? Where's the red carpet? The decor was super nice and modern. But upon arrival they had only 2 customers and once that couple left it was just me and the Sasquatch. So it felt a bit uncomfortable. Granted it was about 8pm on a Monday. I guess it's a slow day for shabu.
I ordered the ribeye shabu and my Sasquatch ordered the sukiyaki. We also ordered the agedashi tofu.
I liked how you had to grind your own sesame seeds and the goma sauce was delish.
I liked the agedashi tofu! Yum, but I like tofu in general so that was a given.
I liked the hot sauce drops for my goma sauce! I just had one drop and that was good for me. Wasn't too overpowering. Next time I'll try two drops.
I liked the service. At times it was overbearing becase I felt wierd having her tower over us the whole time. But she was super nice and friendly.
I liked that our server offered to make an udon soup for me with my udon noodles and left over shabu broth and veggies. She seasoned it to perfection. It was yummy.
And now comes the dislikes:
I disliked the fact that there is no sharing. Bummer.
That's it! Not a whole lot of dislikes for me. Overall I give this place 4 stars. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area!

Disneyland UYE- Feel the Magic with Stephanie H,…
Category: Local Flavor
But surprisingly this yelp disney UYE, completely drama free! Everything seem to work out perfectly. Or perhaps everyone who attended was just perfect to begin with.
It was probably the most well organized UYE ever! We all traveled through the park and went on all the big rides with great timing like a well oiled machine. 20 yelpers all in red ... even yelp gear!! It was great to get to know people while in line, I'd have to say everyone who I met that day I give 5 stars just for being you...because you made my day enjoyable.
Within the first couple hours we hit up Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion and Star Wars ... pretty great timing on all the rides thanks to the magical disney organization skills of Stephanie and Steve's "disney line" app on the iphone...there seriously is an app for everything out there.
Thank you Stephanie, Steve and Jon for organizing such an awesome feet wrenching event! I seriously knocked out once my head hit that pillow!

Shanghai Hair Salon
Categories: Hair Salons, Skin Care
Since I'm such a slacker, I called Shanghai Salon on Thursday and asked if they still had any openings for a haircut...and luckily they had one at 3pm that day. So I booked it. I got my bangs cut at the Dia de los muertos event in Long Beach by Shanghai and I was so impressed by Christina S.'s blowdrying skills and what she did to my friend's hair...so thats why I picked Shanghai. Also I just read Mel M.'s review on Shanghai, so I've been meaning to try it out.
Janae cut my hair, she's super cute and sweet and made me feel very comfortable while she chopped off my hair. Somehow I feel short hair can be very liberating. And a new look was needed, my hair was at that "just below the shoulder" length and was bugging the hell out of me. So I wanted to just chop it off. Janae made sure I had lots of layers to add volume to my very straight and boring hair. I still need to get use to the shortness, but I love it. Janae also taught me to blowdry correctly and how I can style it different ways and what products to use. Since I'm hair illiterate, this helped a whole lot.
How much for my new look?? $32... pretty great deal, I say. Thank you Shanghai Salon. Thank you Janae. Thank you yelp for the discount. My cheapass was satisfied.

I came to the Fountain Valley Skating Center for a heart walk fundraiser. Our company was trying to earn money for the American Heart Association, and this center was kind enough to join in and give us $1 for every person who came for the event. One star for the support!
I was shocked at how crowded the place was...a friday night and I was hanging out with all these teeny boppers! Mortifying experience for me. I felt so old skating around with a bunch of little kids whizzing right past me! So sad. But I made my way through the night without falling down on my ass. They played all the games that I remembered when I was younger. They played the dice game and I actually won, so the winning prize??? a small soda at the concession stand. What the hell, I'll take it. They had top 40s spinning and I was having a blast and I was getting a pretty great leg/cardio workout.
The good:
The music was fun although the DJ was my mom's age.
The kids all look like they were having fun.
There are two night sessions for young kids and then the older kids
They help out with fundraisers
The bad:
Skates were old and stinky and not the most comfortable
The concession stand was old and sad
The parking was packed ... I had to park across the street
Thank you Fountain Valley Skating Center for your support of the American Heart Association. Overall I give ya 3 solid stars.
