Just came here tonight for the Jazz Under the Stars event and it was awesome. Got to hear some cool music from Danilo Perez and had a great time with Katie C., Sam M., Keith Y., Brian Q. and my other friends that showed up.
Sure, there may be signs that say no alcoholic beverages, but almost everyone had out a bottle of wine or some other alcoholic beverage. The event actually starts at 8, but people actually start showing up at least 2 hours earlier so you can start securing your spot or area out in the lawn with lawn chairs and blankets.
If you happen to break your seal a little early in the night there are plenty of port-o-potties out next to the road.
Best thing about the event is that it's free and you can bring your own food and booze!
I just love coming here on Thursday evenings! It's so cheap, it's free!
I love the live music playing, the kiddie section where you can make your own art, and the colored light exhibit. I like the fan that's swinging from the ceiling, if you stand straight under it while it's coming at you it kinda freaks you out the first time. I actually ducked even though it was flying like 3 feet above my head. I also like all the art works that feature boobies. Who doesn't like a statue that has big boobies?
Only problem on my last visit it that I came with impatient friends, so I was kinda being rushed through the exhibit. If you like taking time to look at art I suggest coming alone or with people who have the same appreciation as you.
Generally the DMA is pretty fun. I used to come here on Thursdays back in the day and enjoy the free entry after 5 and listen to some live jazz bands. Good stuff.
However, Katie C. and I came up here to check out the King Tut exhibit on a Saturday. Everyone was there! It was almost too crowded. As we were going through the maze of artifacts, it was like being herded right before the slaughter. I actually got uncomfortable being around so many people. With my ADD I wanted to go here and there looking at whatever caught my eye, but that was hard to do because of there being so many people.
There were plenty of artifacts to see, but the thing that I liked the most was the ancient bling. I really wanted to see some mummified people or cats or the guts inside the jars, none of that was there. I was sad.

There was a part of the exhibit that kind of creeped me out. They have plain faced mannequins with moving faces projected on to them. I think some of the projectors need some adjusting so that the projections align with the faces. Other than that there were a lot of very unique costumes/dresses/art.
The Yelp event page says it goes until January, but according to the museum the exhibit will be there till February 12.
