Went there for LUNCH, seated immediately right next to the window with a great view of the bay. Didn't need reservations for lunch. Restaurant was extremely accessible, just a 10 minute walk from the aquarium... and coming from Seaside, it was right off of the main street. Staff was friendly and approachable, clean bathrooms, and overall a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Bread was fresh, Appetizers and food arrived quickly, water refilled before i ever reached the bottom.
Had the clam chowder bowl since i had a lot of walking around to do afterwards but others in my group got salads, pasta and other entrees and their servings were definitely filling. Not to mention the freshness of the fish that they received with their orders. The chowder was creamy, not too thick, not too watery, and had just the right amount of vegetables and clams. The flavor was perfect, not too much like the sea, but just enough cream flavor. None of those small clams that you find at the bottom of cans, but fresh, juicy, large clams and not just a few of them. Perfect ratio of clams to vegetables. Cleaned it up with fresh bread and i was ready to go for a full day in Monterey. The size of the bowl was about 6 inches across and 1.5 inches deep? but it was perfect by itself, plus the bread served on the side/beginning.
Also tried a plate of the fried calamari as an appetizer, and it was a MUST TRY. I've had calamari before but it was fried in a heavier batter. This calamari was fried with a light (panco like) batter, just enough to give it a crispy outer but not so much that it only tasted like the batter. The sauce that came with it was a creamy/sweetened thousand island sauce that was on par with the excellent calamari.
I would definitely come back, and would definitely get the plate of calamari again.
Looked like there was outdoor seating, and on a warm afternoon i don't see why i wouldn't ask to sit out there! Wasn't able to try any desserts but they sounded delicious, and they also had a full kids menu.
A definite lunch stop for group, couples, families if your'e in in the area. Still have yet to try them out for dinner, but the next time i trek down from san jose... i will try them for dinner.
