I often come here for lunch or after work. Great selection of beers, tasty char-flavored burgers, and the friendly staff give the bar more of a neighborhood feel despite its River North location.

It's a bit dressier than it appears from the outside, and was more crowded than I expected on a Thursday night, which forced my date and I to dine at the bar (not that that's an inherently bad thing, normally). For all of the acclaims that they purport their burgers to have, it didn't nearly seem as superlative as I'd hoped. It was good, but not award-worthy.

Excellent food, made even better by virtue of the fact that the take out window is open until...well, late. The staff is friendly and attentive when dining in, despite a language barrier in some cases. The enchiladas verdes are excellent.

My roommates and I gave this place a chance shortly after it opened, and walked through a blizzard to do so. What a letdown. It's a place trying to be super trendy, and some of the crowd helped toward that goal. Techno music was inexplicably playing loudly at 9PM on a Tuesday, and they did not have the entree I wanted, and they didn't have Drambuie for my roommate's rusty nail. The entire place just felt hollow and soulless.

The Duke Of Perth

This place made me think of what a small town pub along the Scottish or English countryside would be like. Woody decor with a stag on just about every decorative piece I saw, as well as a large stuffed buck head over the bar. My roommate and I staggered in here on a Saturday afternoon after a long night beforehand, so we did not sample any of the many fine ales that appear to be on tap, but I did get the fish and chips, which was excellent.

Simon's Tavern

A no-frills tavern devoid of any pretense, and an amazing jukebox. Great crowd; as no one's there to be seen, and the staff are friendly in a wry sort of way. It's a place you can spend hours at, and it feels like you just got there when last call is bellowed out.

It's not just a clever name. They have a staggering beer selection, which may intimidate some beer novices. It's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, and was still pretty crowded, but most places are at 10:30 on a Saturday night. A fun place to go if you're looking to expand your beer horizons.

A very relaxed crowd, good beer selection, friendly staff, and tasty food make this a fine watering hole. The $5 entree special on Sunday evenings cannot be beat for the lemon chicken or skirt steak. The burger really isn't my style, it kinda has a meatloaf taste which I'm not a fan of, but other than that, there's really nothing to complain about. If you're looking to go to a bar and be able to sit and talk with your friends over a few (dozen) drinks, then this is your place.
