Love the atmosphere, the windows, the stenciling and the attentive, youthful, tattooed staff. The price of dinner entrees is at the high end of reasonable and the food was good. Not great, but good. I had the smoked black cod, but was surprised when it landed at my table with a sweet and savory cream sauce. Did I miss that on the menu? I normally avoid milk/cheese. Ah well, ate it anyway and it was very tasty. All in all this place felt like a young restaurant trying too hard to come across as grown-up.

Never had Kashmiri biyani before. Tropical fruits and cashews in saffron basmati rice. Savory, sweet and nutty. The dal was what you would expect from dal. Spicy lentils. Wonderful when combined with the biryani. On the side: goat cheese naan. Woe. Warm chevre inside springy flatbread. Right now they're serving a Riesling along with a Chardonnay as a house white wine.

Laid back neighborhood feel. Price is right and the pies are light, fruity and delicious. A good option for desert after a filling meal at one of the nearby restaurants. The plum and frangipani tart was surprisingly sour, but the almond paste balanced it well. Tasted the vegan apricot blueberry. Sweet and floral. Yum.

Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant

Looking for parking on a foggy Inner Sunset evening under the wet and billowy blanket of Mt. Sutro fog, we stumbled across this place. Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant is an outpost of warm welcoming staff and tasty, fast Chinese cuisine. All your favorites are here. Sesame chicken, broccoli beef, General Tsao's Chicken. And all vegetarian! Even vegans can happily shop the menu without fear.

Though they were closing in under 10 minutes, they sat us and after we ordered, whipped up our meal in no time. Two heaping dishes, one piled with steaming taro root wedges and "chicken" cubes bathed in a thick sweet coconut sauce. The other a riot of "beef" and vegetables. Tea and a steaming bowl of rice on the side. For desert they brought out a hot soup of mango with clumps of translucent mushrooms floating in it. There is no better cure for the fog than a Chinese compote, let me tell you.

So, dig in.

Golden Buddha Vegetarian Restaurant

Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant at 11th Ave. and Kirkham is better. The prices here at Golden Buddha were higher. We ordered two dishes. "chicken" and vegetable, and "beef" and brocalli. The only discernable difference was the color of the sauces and the "meats." And they cooled off too quickly. The rice bowl wasn't even full, nor was the rice very hot.. Service was fine, but nothing special. They just didn't seem to care, and it made for a very lackluster dinner.

Green Chile Kitchen

If you have ever been to Tomasita's in Santa Fe, NM then DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE. If you have lived in New Mexico and miss tender burritos packed with beans and swimming in a spicy vegetal gravy of savory green chile, then I repeat: don't bother.

Because what you get is a soupy concoction of soggy tortilla wrapped around cheese and beans, covered in cheese, and surrounded by cheese. Even if you order extra green chile and NO CHEESE, they will still serve you a tortilla log in a greasy pool of cheese.

The search continues.

MaggieMudd - CLOSED

Maggie Mudd will save the world from boring milk-centric ice cream.

For everyone who says MaggieMudd doesn't have chocolate: Please, do yourself a favor (or should I say "flavor"?) and try TarMack. Ingredients? Organic Cocoa, cocoa processed with alkali, organic unsweetened chocolate, chocolate cookie bits, peanut butter and other stuff.

Yes, I have had the odd cone that is a little on the bland side, but the flavors are adventurous. When you try to do something new, ingenious and creative like serve a menu that is generously informed by (but not entirely! there ARE delicious cream-based options) coconut-based and soy-based frozen yumminess, you're bound to have a couple duds.

I would also suggest trying the malts. You can make any of their flavors into a malted milkshake. For my lactose loving friends: give her a chance! If the first flavor isn't quite right, be bold! Try again!

For my vegan friends: make the trip to Bernal Heights and revel in the freedom from milk tyranny!

Well, free diagnosis. The kid at the counter spent some time on my computer. Turned out to be a bad connection in the RAM. Easily fixed. I got the impression he wouldn't even have charged me. But he offered to have the other techs fix and replace some screws. 15 minutes. 20 bucks. And my desktop is better than ever!
