I was so elated when I realized they were opening in my neighborhood.
When I think BBQ pork bun, I think about the filling and the fluffy bao...in the traditional sense. This is not, it could be considered a creative, but non-traditional version of the bao, which isn't for me unfortunately.
These are more sweet-bun than bao. The bun is tasty (glazed too), but it's not bao.
The BBQ pork filling was a little more than absent. I ordered three, and ate the filling and left most of the bun. The filling just wasn't there.
After eating the above, I did go back up to the register and order a vanilla custard bun. I enjoyed it. Why? Well it's basically the same bun, but with a crispy top, so you get a different version of the sweet-bun. It's dessert, so the bun is appropriate, but not for BBQ pork (IMHO).
If you're craving a morning pastry or sweet bun, I'd give the custard bun a shot, but I personally will pass on the savory buns. Sad face.
Dumplings start after Labor day, so I'll go back and try those. I live 2 blocks away, so I don't mind investing some time here.
I love yank sing BBQ pork bun's, and even the Chairman Bao food truck has *great* bao.

solid solution to my lunch needs on Fillmore. i live a few blocks away and can say that i'm happy they've moved into the neighborhood.
i've read the reviews, and can sympathize with the experience of an opening act. Just look at my review of the American Grilled Cheese Company during their grand opening, or even Mehfil Indian Cuisine's, which is just up the street on Fillmore. Bun Mee did it better.
I ordered the 5 spice chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries and a pellegrino for lunch today. I was really happy with my meal and the speed of service.
When I sat down, I was worried my 5 spice chicken sandwich would be really spicey, but thankfully it wasn't. It was a little sweet and very tasty.
The sweet potato fries were great, add them for only $3 to your meal/sandwich, or get a bucket for $4.95.
It was a warm sunny day today, and Bun Mee made it even better. I will definitely return to try more items on the menu.
Welcome to the neighborhood!

I haven't ordered their savory buns since I first tried them (a few times), but I do however love their chocolate sweet bun.
They stopped selling the Sokenbicha bottled tea. That was my favorite.
I'd be open to seeing different types of dim sum dumplings on the menu as well. Dumplings are the slightly healthier option over their savory and sweet buns.
