So, we're looking for something new... I love Cajun food... plug "Cajun" and "Lawrenceville" into Yelp and this pops up. We head over...
It has the feel of a well-loved but low key family run establishment. Not overdone, but a touch of personality in what used to be a Pizza Hut.
We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who was very patient when we asked about different dishes on the menu. She made recommendations and honestly filled me in that we were probably too late to actually "enjoy" the weekend brunch buffet (as in it wasn't overly fresh!).
My boyfriend ordered crab meat eggs benedict with grits. He said it was good, but he wasn't thrilled with the amount of cheese served with it. He liked the grits, but I wouldn't have because they looked watery in my opinion.
I ordered shrimp and blackened catfish as my entree with red beans and rice and cajun fries. The shrimp was really good, but I found the batter somewhat bland. Nothing that a little salt, pepper, and a splash of the "Cajun Hot Sauce" on the table couldn't cure. The catfish was cooked perfectly. Red beans and rice were awesome, although my boyfriend complained that they were too salty. I tend to OD on salt, though, so if you don't like salty, he is probably right! Cajun fries... nothing special, just crispy fries with Creole seasoning over them. Tasty, but not something I can't make at home.
And that is really the only reason I gave three stars instead of 4. Although I will gladly go back and try different menu items, and everything was enjoyable, I have made a lot of these things myself just as good, if not better in the grits and cajun fries' case. Still working on the red beans and rice!

This place baffles me...
I love, love, LOVE KFC, but this location puts the chain to shame...
First off, it takes FOREVER to get your order, and it's ALWAYS slow. Probably because other people realize how bad this location is!
Second, I always have the most difficult time communicating my order to whoever is taking it. The last few times I've tried to order popcorn chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, they get into this argument with me that doesn't make sense... the popcorn chicken doesn't come with buffalo sauce. Oh wait, yeah, we have buffalo sauce but you can't get it in a packet, it has to be tossed... but it doesn't COME with it cooked on... buffalo sauce? We have buffalo popcorn chicken?
OHHH you want it TOSSED in sauce! Yea, we can do that!
... like I didn't state clearly in the beginning "I'd like popcorn chicken tossed in buffalo sauce."
What, do you guys hoard the buffalo sauce? Is it more expensive? I don't get it!
The scenario has repeated three times, therefore I give up on this location. Keep your freakin' buffalo sauce!
Yeah, I showed up with two borderline obnoxiously drunk male friends who ordered more drinks. I ordered a Hypnotik Martini that was one of the drink specials, pretty tasty but somewhat weak.
While the boys are being drunk and obnoxious, I order the Flat Dips appetizer. It is flat bread with four types of hummus dip; olive, tomato, pesto, and macadamia. I preferred the tomato and pesto, my boyfriend the macadamia, and nobody really cared for the olive.
After debating on whether to go for an entree or a flatbread, we decide to each order a flatbread so we can sample each others. I ordered the Fajita chicken, my boyfriend the Midwestern, and Rob the buffalo chicken. All were divine!
I was looking forward to a tomato soup I had heard about, and fried green tomatoes which weren't on the menu... the server told us we could pretty much make up what we want as far as flatbreads, but I was too distracted babysitting to worry about non-specified food items.
But aside from the food, I was particularly impressed with the server's friendliness toward our loud table. Even when one of the guys accidentally knocked my 2nd martini all over me, he took it off the bill, without me even asking for a replacement etc. That's pretty cool :)
I'll be back again to try the entrees, and will hopefully see the tomato soup come back!

First off I'd like to compliment the ability to order a "mini" order of calamari as an appetizer for $3.99. Considering the bread and salad that is also served, I appreciate a mini version... because I LOVE calamari but often skip it because I would only nibble at it and pay $8-10. The portion was actually a lot larger than what I would call "mini", and it was of the best I've had.
Then the salads... fresh and delicious!
I decided to skip my normal chicken skilletini this last time and go for penne pasta in spicy marinara and meat sauce. It was delicious, but I think I like the skilletini I usually order better.
My boyfriend actually ordered a steak and pasta entree off of a specials list that was divine as well. Forget the exact name, but for $8.99 it was large and yummy!
Must say... it has slipped up to the #1 spot on my list of Fav Italian restaurants!

Dirty. Small. Smelly. Seemingly flaky bar staff. Oh yeah, and the guy who let 5 people in directly in front of me at 3AM before grabbing my arm and yelling "We're closed!". I already had on my over 21 wristband they made me wear, and I just had to pee... God knows I had no intentions of STAYING in there... but oh well, I guess the door dude had a temporary delusion/fantasy that he was a bouncer at Opera or something and HAD to spill his angst on someone.
Bummer. I might have even given this place another chance if I didn't have to send someone else in (YES, THEY LET SOMEONE ELSE BACK IN!) to get my car keys so I could go pee in a church parking lot. Epic.
So yay for the Yelp app on the iPhone, we were able to find this place when wondering "What to eat?". We'd just returned from hiking a bit near Hog Pen Gap and wanted something... well, not tourist trappy like a lot of Helen, Ga is.
We found this place... an elegantly decorated older house that seems classy and comfortable at the same time.
All the food ordered was impressive. Large portion of fried calamari, HUGE pot pie, large "half" rack of baby back ribs! And let me tell you, the previous yelper who mentioned they were the best ribs ever, they were not lying! I was equally impressed with the collard greens!
I'd definitely give it a try if you're in the area.
The sandwhiches are a good value and taste great, but they're not anything spectacular. That's why it's 4 stars instead of 5. But... good sized Italian sandwhich delivered to my office for under $7... AWESOME!
