Cafe Jack

Cafe Jack is a titanic themed boat restaurant. It's very kitschy which gives it some charm, but the food is gnarly.

Take a photo from outside and then run. Do not eat here.

Peace.

Sushi Rock

Who would've thought that you could find sushi comparable to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York in a remote village on The Big Island? Go figure that the owner of Sushi Rock is a former Manhattanite.

Be sure and try the homemade local wasabi, Rock Star roll, and Soba Noodle salad.

Support the local establishments!

P.S. One of the waiters look like Jacob from Twilight and will make your heart swoon.

Red O

If you're looking for a very sceney "LA" restaurant (I rarely am), Red O is the spot for you.

I first heard about Red O from Esquire's top restaurants of 2010 and I finally got around to checking it out last night. It was completely mediocre and entirely too expensive. In fact, it's sort of like glorified Mexican food.

Unfortunately, my date and I had to sit in the "garden" tent rather then in the physical restaurant. There was zero vibe there and it was not a garden, it was a tent on the street with heat lamps.

Things I did like: the steak salad, the fun swing chairs at the bar, the "Market Margarita", our helpful server, the tequila tunnel.

The Village Bakery and Cafe

I love a lot of things about the Village Bakery. I love that it's easy to park around there, they have free and unlimited WiFi, the bread and tuna melt are so yummy, and there's always a spot to sit. However, I don't like that the restaurant is over priced, the service is mediocre and sometimes brash, and the coffee is bad.

You should still go though. It's a great neighborhood spot.

Loteria Grill

Category: Mexican
Neighborhood: Hollywood

Eh, Loteria was just ok. Indeed, the service and wait staff were attentive and friendly and the space was open and comfortable, the food for lunch was completely mediocre and didn't taste very fresh. The chips tasted a bit stale and overly salty and my heirloom salad was soggy.

If I ever go back, which is unlikely, I'd try the dinner which is hopefully tastier.

AOC

I've been wanting to try AOC for a while now, but waiting for a special occasion to go...like my parents paying. ha!

I loved the food and wine, but the ambiance was rather drab. Also, it was rather pricey for what we ordered (even though I didn't pay myself). I might try it again but not rushing to get back,

the food is incredible. the way italian should be, new york style.

they don't take reservations, but save time for a drink before or after dinner at their wine bar next door. cozy and great selection.
