Stop & Shop Florist

Category: Florists

5 star rating

I recently purchased flowers for my wedding from this Stop & Shop Floral department. Mary, the Florist Manager did an amazing job helping us design our flowers for the church, reception, and bouquets. I honestly would never have thought to purchase wedding flowers from Stop & Shop, but when we saw some of Mary's work, we were extremely impressed.

Here's a few great reasons why you should let Mary do your wedding arrangements:
1. She was very professional in listening to what our style was and giving suggestions or providing alternative ideas.
2. She always called us back very quickly to answer the questions we had or address our concerns.
3. She has a great eye for the details and presentation. When we couldn't find cranberries in season she provided a couple other options for us to consider that didn't compromise the presentation. All our guests complemented on our centerpieces (how much they loved them).
4. The cost of our arrangements, centerpieces, and bouquets was certainly much cheaper than going somewhere else.
5. Mary loves what she does and it shows through her work!

The Counter

We stopped by here during our visit back East last month.  We had no idea what to expect but had heard people raving about the burgers.  Filling out the order form was almost as hard as taking a test.  There were so many good choices.  I opted for the Counter Burger which was just amazing with the fried onions and sauteed mushrooms.  There was something for everyone on the menu though (even for the non meat lover).

Our burgers came up fairly quick for being ordered around the lunch rush.  Our fifty-fifty though came right out of shoe string onion rings and sweet potato fries.  Just amazing!  They also had a great selection of beers on tap here (inlcuding the Thomas Hooker IPA and Blonde).  I'll be back here next time I'm in CT!

I stopped by Homegrown a couple weeks ago for a Saturday afternoon lunch.  I had heard this place could get crowded but when we arrived it wasn't too packed.  I thought everything on the menu looked amazing but knew I had to try the grilled cheese.  I was right.  It was amazing!  We also got a large bowl of their special soup which was chicken curry at the time.  A smaller would have sufficed but none the less, it was very tasty.

Our order didn't seem to take very long to arrive at our table and I loved the ambience of the place and the quiet chatter of other restaurant goers around me.  I could definitley see how coming here on a crowded day would be overwhelming though since it's a tiny space.

I'll definitely be back to try some of their other hot sandwiches!

Hale's Ales Pub

There are two aspects to visiting Hales.  One is just for beer and the other is for dinner.  Their beer is great and they always have an amazing sampling across the beer spectrum (from blondes to dark seasonals).  The bar area is very inviting and has a cozy local taproom sort of feeling.

On the other hand, I have never really enjoyed the food here.  In my opinion there menu has too much food on it.  In reality you can't be good at everything you serve and cook and you serve and cook too much.  Just pick a few things to be good at.  Sometimes there's also too much hustle and bustle throughout the dining area even when it doesn't seem packed.

All in all though, you won't be disappointed to come here and just have a few brews.  Hale's also throws a mean Winter Beer Festival in their Palladium around back.  So be sure to check that out!

All Purpose Pizza & Ale House

We were at All Purpose Pizza & Ale House last Thursday for a late dinner. We quickly found parking right outside the ale house. We started with the Cesar salad which was pretty good and opted out of beer because the selection was not much to write home about.

We decided to build our own pizza because most of the specials had a few toppings we would have taken off anyway. We chose a roasted red pepper, green pepper, onions, and sausage for our toppings. The pizza came out piping hot and the crust was very soft and easy to bite into. This place is a solid 3 starts for their good pizza!

The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co.

So I wanted some cupcakes for my birthday a few weeks ago and dropped a few hints to my sister. After noticing Yellow Leaf was only open until 5PM on their website, I was a bit disappointed. Turns out my sister called them to ask if they could stay open a tad bit after 5PM so she could pick up some cupcakes for my birthday. I guess they don't actually close at 5PM as they note online because they told her they stay open until they run out. Good for me, but they should really update their website. :)

Anyway, my sister picked up a 4-pack of cupcakes and they were just amazing. I love cupcakes but have never been a real fan of frosting. Yellow Leaf's frosting was unlike any kind of frosting I have ever tasted. It was light and fluffy and didn't overpower the cake it was paired with. I'll definitely head back here to try more of their flavors. So far my favorite one was the cinnamon one!

Pike Place Chowder

If you're in Seattle and want some amazing New England Clam Chowder...come here!  This certainly is not the best in the country but it is the best in Seattle!  I always stop by here when I'm in the market to grab a (sourdough) bread bowl with chowder.  The prices are right and the lines are usually right too.  It can get very packed here but people move in and out pretty quickly.

Next time I might try some of their other chowders but just can't stop thinking about the clam chowder.  Mmmmmmm

Five Guys Burgers and Fries

I am originally from Connecticut but live in Seattle now. The last time my husband and I were home back in April, we drove by Five Guys and knew we had to try it the next time we were in town. This was our chance. The day after our wedding, we packed up our Seattle friends and headed over to Five Guys for their amazing burgers and fries.

Beware that the large fries are VERY LARGE. We split the Cajun fries and regular fries among 5 people and it was plenty. Our burgers were juicy and filled with all the toppings and condiments you could possibly want. Thankfully, Five Guys just opened near us at home in Seattle. We'll be back for sure!

My husband and I stopped by Flying Fish after running an errand in Belltown for happy hour.  We had just missed the end of happy hour at 6PM, but Amos the bartender convinced us to stay anyway.

They have a good selection of draft beers and some really good wines.  We ordered the steamed clams appetizer (which I guess is 1/2 price during happy hour...only $6) and it was amazing!  Amos kept the breading coming so we could dip it into the butter sauce leftover from the clams.  Even though the dinner meal seemed a bit pricey, I'd like to come back and try it.  I'll definitely be back for their happy hour though!

Crush

My husband and I were here last night for dinner to try out the Urban Eats menu (3 courses for $30). Despite some of the "just OK" reviews on Yelp for Crush, we decided to try it out for ourselves. We had a 7:15PM reservation and were seated promptly upon our arrival at the tables near the bar. My first impression had me a bit frazzled that it was so loud in the restaurant the lighting was very bright. Into our dinner though the lights were dimmed and everyone's conversations were drowned out by our own.

We decided on the wine pairings for $15 to go with our meal as the glasses of wine were well over $15 a piece anyway. I ordered the pear salad (which was AMAZING) and the homemade pasta dish with mushrooms and my husband ordered the pork belly appetizer and the flank steak. All the food was amazing!   While the food portions were a bit on the smaller side, we didn't leave feeling hungry (but we weren't stuffed either).

Our waitress was very attentive and I liked how everyone took a minute to explain what was in each dish after placing it on the table. The wine pairings were also paired to each dish as opposed to 1 set of pairings for all the meals. I don't know if I'd come back here for a full priced meal as all the dinners started at $20+. I would however come back for Urban Eats again.
