I've found my new favorite breakfast spot and thankfully my BF is a fan too! That means I won't have to find a new boyfriend which is a huge timesaver during the holidays. All jokes aside though, the breakfast here is phenomenal because of what you get for the price. On this visit to Tango we ordered the salmon eggs benedict ($9.75) and the Swedish pancakes ($7.75). I couldn't decide whether or not to be healthy so we split our plates. There are only a few more weeks of pregnancy left in me and I figure it's the only time it'll be okay for me to be a fatty!
If you're an eggs benedict fan then you'll be pleased with Tango's salmon eggs benedict. We got ours with smoked salmon and our friends ordered theirs with gravlax. It was perfectly prepared and all I could say was yuuummmmm. I think the world would be a much better place if we got everything covered in hollandaise sauce. It could in fact be the solution to all the dissonance between North & South Korea. They don't have hollandaise sauce to keep them fat and sleepy so that's why they're fighting. Just saying...
Those of us who are not so into the extra ass you'll grow by eating eggs benedict, you can opt for the Swedish pancakes as a light and eggy breakfast treat. I loved the texture and even better was that it was served with a tasty boysenberry jam and cubed fresh fruit. I almost didn't trade with my BF when it came time to swap plates but I just can't say no to hollandaise sauce.
And last but not least is the coffee at Tango. If you love coffee you're really going to enjoy their brew which will inject you with enough caffeine for an entire week! I'm still doing hand stands from yesterday! Breakfast for two with coffee comes out to about $25 and I think that's quite a steal! Service was fantastic but beware that they don't take reservations unless you have a party of five or more. Free parking in the Hokua...
This morning I had the pleasure of having breakfast at Tango Contemporary Cafe with my friend Michelle (the owner of Tea at 10240). For all the years that Tango has been open, this morning was actually the first time I ever had the pleasure of eating there. Perhaps it was the name or the sign or some weird idea in my head about them serving giant kabobs that stopped me from ever attempting to eat at this small, refined eatery. Thankfully Yelp and Michelle changed my mind because indeed they do not serve giant kabobs. And just in case you're wondering I am a bit scared of giant kabobs in the way that others are completely creeped out by circus clowns.
For those of you who love a nice strong cup of coffee in the morning, you are going to looove the coffee at Tango. As I write this review my hands are shaking and I'm kind of tweaking out from the two cups I downed during breakfast. I'm writing a review, making phone calls, doing the dishes and just wrote a new hit song on my guitar all at once because that's how unbelievable caffeinated I am! Boy this is going to be total downer later on this afternoon when all this adrenaline wears off!
Now for the food! My friend Michelle ordered the loco moco at the suggestion of our waiter which was fried rice topped with beautiful slices of braised beef and egg on top. They also have hollandaise sauce that goes on top but Michelle got it on the side. I think hollandaise on everything gives you an automatic extra star! I ordered the Pytt I Panna, a swedish style potato with ham and sausage hash, because I liked the name and Michelle said it was excellent! If you're a fan of eggs benedict, Tango has an assortment of crab, salmon, standard and if you want you can mix and match, which I thought was nice. Today I didn't feel like downing 1500 calories worth of creamed butter so I decided to pass. Maybe tomorrow though!
Our food came very quickly and everything was excellent! I really enjoyed my Pytt I Panna and it made me want to play patty cake! I'm not a huge breakfast fan and normally wouldn't enjoy something with sausage but I liked it! It didn't taste greasy and all the flavors melded together very well. Michelle's loco moco looked amazing and she cleaned her plate so it must have been good!
Overall wonderful experience, great service and much better than hitting up a greasy spoon in my opinion. Free validated parking and convenient location was also a plus. Good, clean breakfast spots are very difficult to find and this would probably be number two on my list behind The Cream Pot. This would also be an excellent place to come for a girly lunch or bridal shower type of get together. I can't wait to come back with my BF for lunch or dinner as I'm excited to see what else Tango has to offer my belly!
