their stuff is still dry. I realized is because the staff seems to not give a flying f. After all the complaints on here about them being dry they need to shape up.I think that the staff are not trained well to deal with gluten free baking, which why their food is getting worse. It's either the people who are giving rave reviews are being paid, have amazing salivary glands or ..... whoever is specifically baking their food is putting a lot of effort into it . Those reviewers are suspect.
Another thing that irked me was when i was purchasing the goods a person was being trained and they(trainer) didn't take the gluten free diet seriously. she did not convey it in a serious tone.
The three stars are for them existing in Los Angeles, them potentially doing away with spelt , the service and using coconut oil. Great service! Two stars is knocked of due to dry cupcakes.
Okay i have been to baby cakes roughly 13 times infrequently since it's opening. The gaps in time were for chances to improve quality. I have tried tree different types of desserts the cupcakes, brownies and loaves.
The cupcakes
They have been consistently dry. Another yelper tried their cupcakes, not from their storefront (event), and had a completely opposite experience. They did agree that directly from the bakery, it's dry. They range in dryness from: yeah ,it could have used a little more of something to crumb avalanche. Two times have I went where they have not been so dry was when the cyclist was there. I noticed right away that the cupcakes were different and the second time proved again that when the cyclist was there the level of dryness improved. Note: the pumpkin is not that dry but the carrot cupcake is.
Why must they be so dry? The prices are steep for such dry, food. I would definitely overlook the price if it wasn't the case.
I will give them their dues on taste. They do taste good. Not at all bland and not too sweet and they sit well in the stomach. Next time you eat one take a moment. The icing is nice and thick. I try to eat the icing and the cupcake together to combat the dryness. I was seriously thinking about getting little container of icing to eat.
Overall, until they improve I will avoid them for a while. I know it's possible to fix the issue.
The brownies
The brownies are not dry. they are moist and the flavor is consistently great. I have tried both I like the agave nectar cupcake more for taste and the other for awesome the crust. I like a brownie with a crunch from time to time. Very rich as they should be and they are pretty cute. Cute and tasty. I do have to say that I do not eat them as frequently.
Loaves
I had the Banana Chocolate Chip & Carrot Spice(bought as a gift for me).Hot damn, they were good. Moist, delicious, and dense. The chocolate chip loaf was a hell of a surprise, because I was not expecting it to be so good. Seriously, I just might just stick to buying these because they were well done. I had them in December so I don't feel that too much could have changed.
The carrot spice was the same deal, moist, delicious, and dense. Just as good. This is good by itself and with icing. Icing on the other one would be overkill and would distract from the flavor of the loaf.
The tea
I know they have other tea but all I remember is PG Tips. They should get some loose leaf tea from Urth Café ,they are swell people that I want to hug, their teas would pair well. They should have loose leaf tea and also know how to brew it I say this because it's real easy to do so.
The service
The staff has always been pleasant and helpful. I feel, no, I KNOW customer service is just as important as the quality. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the service. I appreciate it. Lately, people have been dicks in customer service; it's nice to know that they haven't been so.
