Wow...those last to reviews read like someone is on the take!  Seriously people--a little bit of reality won't hurt you.  Yes, Woodrow is a good school.  My daughter goes there.  Her father graduated from Woodrow.

But if your child didn't feed from Lakewood, Stonewall or a private school--it will be an uphill battle.  The school is very slanted towards the haves and often leaves the have-nots sitting on the bench.  If you can't get your own transportation, you cannot participate in most of the schools after school activities.

I'm a working mother and I have litereally had to move mountains for my daughter to be able to participate in the activities--even in summer.

The teachers are good.  The new principal is pulling things together.  But the progams are administed haphazardly at best.  My daughter was in a Spanish class with a substitute-turned-permanent for the first six weeks.  There were over 40 children in the class and not enough desks.  Children had to sit in the floor for the first six weeks.  A second teacher was eventually hired but they are all very behind now.

My daughter is in the IB program.  For the most part, the teachers are AMAZING.  But often we find their time taken up with all the meetings they have to attend, leaving little time for tutoring.  And if you are in IB, eventually you will need tutoring.

Woodrow, compared to other DISD schools is 4 stars.  I will stand by it, but it needs to improve.  And while I'm glad y'all are out there pumping sunshine, it comes off very candy coated.  Yelpers are smart enough to hear the truth and smart enough to recognize propaganda.

Okay...so I emailed the folks at Lifetouch with a copy of my previous review.  Someone called me that day and said they'd overnight my daughters school photos and give me a discount.  While that is slightly redeeming, the next day I received photos of a little boy in another Dallas school.  According to the folks at my office, the confused look on my face was totally worth it.  I called the local rep back and they gave me a full refund and overnighted the correct photos which arrived the next day.  While I'm still disappointed, they at least tried to rectify the situation.

This has been the MOST PAINFUL AND DIFFICULT process I've been through since child birth.  Seriously!

I called and ordered photos, when they did not arrive I called again.  My photos were not printed and no one could tell me why.  They processed the order again.  They didn't arive AGAIN.  I called AGAIN and was told they must have been delivered to the wrong address.  The order has been processed again, for the THIRD TIME.  The photos won't arrive until December 15 at the earliest.

Some of these photos were supposed to be part of relitives b-day gifts, now they are Christmas gifts; and even that is in jeapordy becuase I still have to purchase frames and ship them.  I can't even see the photo to get an idea what frames to purchase because the half-wit photographer didn't give the children an access code when the photo was taken.

This has been a nightmare.  I will be letting my church/school/and anyone else who will listen how terrible LifeTouch is.

"World Famous" my ass!  Quite possibly the worst food I have ever put in my mouth.  I ordered their "World Famous" fish sandwich.  It sounded good--fried or grilled Mahi Mahi with grilled onions and cheese.  I imagined a Filet-o-Fish on steroids.  And that's good because I'm one of those rare people that totally dig the Filet-o-Fish.  However they were out of Mahi Mahi--my choices were Tilapia or Catfish.  So I ended up with grilled Tilapia with raw white onions covered in bad American cheese.

My daughter ordered the Key West Shrimp and Pasta--it was bad mac'n'cheese with about 5 shrimp on top.  I can go home and open a box o Kraft for less than the $13.95 they charged for that bowl of poo.  And it was so salty it was hard to eat.

Service was slow and the place was not crowded on a Saturday near Christmas.  The store was packed.  I guess we should have known.

Great food...however the service is hit or miss.  I have dined in and picked-up food to go.  The Pineapple Curry is really tasty.  However, I've been there on a busy day after calling in my order and had to wait an extra 40 minutes.  Then when I sat down in the break room to eat, realized they had cut little pieces of potatos up to resemble pineapple--they must have been out.  They were hoping I wouldn't notice?

Anyway, if I don't have time to take a long lunch, I don't go.  If I have the time then I enjoy the food.

The Basil Rolls ROCKED...but they were tiny for the price. The lunch special was huge, but it didn't taste as good as other places I'm used to. I had the basil beef but the sauce was a little thin on flavor. There was enough between the rolls and the lunch special for two meals, easily.

My favorite part of the meal was the spicy peanut sauce which came with the Basil Rolls. I could have drank it straight. But I didn't...co-workers were watching and it would have been poor form. If I were alone I totally would have used my fingers to get every last bit a sauce out of the ramekin.

5% discount if you pay cash. Decent for a little lunch walk from the new office digs.

There were some weird voices coming out of that chick.

We went on Monday night before Halloween and the same night as the Ranger game--we'd promised the tweens we'd go.  There was no line.  Even with no one ahead of us or behind us it still took us about 20 minutes.  This place put some time into their displays.

One area looked like we were in a cave, one put us in a funeral, one was a graveyard, etc.  There's a lot of neat stuff and a lot of darkness.

The actors were...hmmm...skilled.  And they were more than happy to scare the bejezus out of the gals.  Seems teens are tastier.   I don't want to give anything away, so I'm going to stop with the descriptions.  But since it's $25 per person it's worth it.  Most of the other houses are $30 and you HAVE to get the special ticket that gets you to the front of the line.  The line wasn't bad at Fatal End.

Down side is you pretty much have to pay for parking unless you take the train, which is a cool option.  And at least we know where the Heart Attack Grill vicitms ended up.  Hee hee.

I have to admit the service was lacking.  Our soup and salad came out after our food--but it was all delish.  And I do not mean slightly better than Olive Garden delish.  This was mom and pop delish.  I had the wedding soup which is full'o'meat and what not.  It was a meal all by itself.  I hardly had room for my entree which was huge.  I had enough food for thee peeps.  I ordered the lasagna and alfredo combo with a side of meatballs.  I took a lot of it home with me--destroyed it the next day.

The West End is a little better than it was a year ago, but it's got a long way to go if it's really going to be a tourist stop.  They've opened an all year haunted house and there are street musicians.

I've seen a lot of review saying the food isn't that great.  I eat a lot of Italian food and the food here is as good as most of the other places I go to in Dallas with the exception of Pietro's--which rox my sox clean off.  They use the same recipes they used before SW became a chain, so I always forget it expanded.  I love the trolly car and the beds made into tables.  My daughter want's to have her birthday upstairs in the gazebo--only $13.50 per person and that's all inclusive (tax and tip).  We are going to take the train from White Rock Station.  It should be a hoot.

Anyway, I suspect that a lot of people knock off a star before they start writing because it's a "chain" and that makes me sad.  The food is yummy!

There was more food than any two little women could eat...but yah, we ate it all anyway. Butternut and I went here on a Saturday afternoon. We were starving like marvin because we'd skipped traditional lunch time immersed in the JFK-ness of the Sixth Floor Museum.

    1. We sat in the trolley car--which is always awesome. "Look I'm on a TROLLEY CAR INSIDE A RESTAURANT!

    2. Huge plate meant to feed 2 Dallas Cowboys Linebackers--big ones. And yes, we ate it all. Did you really think for a second we couldn't.

    3. Food was awesome and the waiter took our photo for us so we didn't have to stop stuffing our face to snap it ourselves.

GREAT FOOD and just like I remember it being when I was a little butternut myself.

I still love this place and I've yet to be disappointed by it. Maybe I got lucky and hit it at the right time, maybe everyone else hit it on an off day. Who knows, but I'll go there again on Memorial Day for sure.

Cafe Delicious

All things should be smothered--ex spouses, loud parakeets, pork chops--especially pork chops! The smothered pork chops at Cafe Delicious are the best I've ever had with the exception of those my grandfather (Papa) the ex-Mess Sergeant, used to prepare for Sunday lunch after church. I actually picked up the bone, chewed off every little tiny scrap of meat I could find and then sucked off all the gravy. The bone was left on my plate like a bony finger of death pointing back at me taunting "Yeah...that's the stuff that's going to get you in the end." Troof, Death, troof.

Lunch plates are one meat, three sides and a bread. Sweet merciful Southern crap the sides were the best ever. I had cabbage with a side of cheese, mac-n-cheese, black-eyed peas and jalapeno cornbread. Everything was great. The cabbage was so amazing that I didn't need the cheese sauce. It had a spicy bite to it. I loved it as much as I did my pork chop.

My munchkin had the fried catfish, mashed potatoes, green beans and fry bread. If you've never had fry bread (hot water bread) you need to. My mom used to make it so I know I love it. Bread in cornmeal deep fried. My step dad is Choctaw and we used to have fry bread as my mother's attempt to preserve his culture. Forget that his mom actually made sourdough biscuits, but you can't blame her for trying. Either way, the fry bread is also amazing. My cornbread was really good to.

The fried catfish was also a huge winner. It was not fishy at all. Loved it.

They also had pigs feet, oxtail, meatloaf, baked chicken, butter beans--etc. Everything looked really good and everything I tasted was top notch.

The folks behind the counter couldn't have been any nicer. Super friendly and they knew their Southern food! I love this place. I would say it's the best meal I've had in months--and I've eaten some great food this month.

GO! Go now! Their credit card machine is down so take cash. And eat a lot! They give you huge portions. I absolutely love this place and cannot say enough nice things about it.

I died and went to taco heaven. *drifts off into taco heaven day dream* Wouldn't that be the best place every? Screw the "land of chocolate" Homer, I want to live in the "land of tacos" forever. I love tacos and I'm thinking I'm an expert on hard crispy tacos. My favorite in Dallas is Herrera's. The rest of their TexMex is pretty standard, but I suspect they are using something addictive in their taco meat, like cumin or smack.

Either way Pulido's tacos are better than Herrera's. They were the absolute best crispy beef tacos I've ever had--in my whole life--and we all know I've had a bunch'o tacos. The meat was well seasoned, smooth but meaty and the shell was crispy but strong enough to hold together almost till the end. The salad on top was standard, but good. I loved them. My plate also had two enchiladas, cheese taco, rice and beans. I believe it was called the Mama Plate, which is appropriate because I'm often referred to as a mother of some type. The Mama Plate also came with tea and a praline. We also had a tamale appetizer which featured 6 mini tamales, 2 pork, 2 chicken jalapeno, and 2 bean cheese. I suspect they were out of bean cheese because I didn't see them. No problem, the mini tamales comes with queso. I lived.

Everything was good. The service was okay. I really toyed with dropping it a star because while our waitress was friendly and very nice, I don't think she's waited tables before. She did not know the menu. She did not ring things up correctly. She did not really know how to wait tables at all. But everyone has to start somewhere and while she was not very good, it was not from lack of trying.

If I'm in Mineral Wells I will eat here again. Would I make a special trip from Dallas--that's 2 hours, prob not. Would I make a special trip from Weatherford--dang skippy I would. Also, this place is better than Herrera's overall if that says anything about it. I think it does.

They obviously do NOT drug test their waitstaff--or something.  The waiter was absolutely creeper.  He was nice.  He starred directly into your eyes wayyyyyyyyyy too long.  Very uncomfortable.  He would disappear for very very long amounts of time.  It took forever to get drinks, took forever for him to take our order, took forever for the queso, took forever for the food to come and took even longer than forever for the check.  There were 6 of us and it took 2 hours to eat lunch.  They were not packed.  He was not busy.  And I would blame it on the kitchen but everything was soooo slow.  It was crazy how bad it was.

I requested a box for my three pieces of quesadilla which were left.  I waited for freaking evah.  Eventually he came back and took my plate to box them up for me.  The next day I opened the box and had one tiny piece.  WHAT HAPPENED?  I'm guessing that he trashed the rest of it.

My food was good, but not amazing.  There's too many good places to go in that general area for me to waste time on some place that does not value my business enough to have better service.

Via Real--you totally owe me a tenderloin quesadilla.

I wonder how long they would let me sit there and eat chips and hot sauce.  I'd like to test that theory some day.  Because I'm cheap?  Well, yah because I'm cheap, but really because they were THAT good.  The chips were lite, crisp and salty.  The sauce was thick and tomatoey with the right amount of zip.  Even when my food arrived I couldn't stop on the chips.

I ordered the spinach enchilada/puffy taco combo.  Yes, I know it has a name but I've slept since then.  And while I do not like cooked spinach, the enchilada was effing sweet!  I would totally Popeye up that plate'o'joy again.  The downside was that the puffy taco shell was stale and hard to rip apart.  The brisket inside was completely worth the effort, but I would have loved for the shell to be a little more crispy.  Don't worry...I managed.

Service was extra perfect.  Atmosphere is swankier than most Mexican places.  All in all, this was a four star all the way.    Show owner comment »

Is it possible to fall in love with a food truck? You will probably see me glued lovingly to the side of the truck whispering sweet nothings and what not. I love this truck. The pulled pork grilled cheese was amazing. The meatball sliders were even better. The meatballs were perfect and fit snugly on a Hawaiian roll with a little bit o' cheese.

The menu included burgers and portobello burgers, steak fritte, pepperoni eggrolls, Cajun fries and more.

The folks operating the truck were super nice and really asked a lot of questions regarding locations, and what brings you to their truck. They are really trying to please their public.

I've hit three of the four trucks I'm aware of, and this one by far is my favorite. Here's why--I like plain cowboy food. Most food trucks have some fusion of Asian and tortilla going on. This place is busy fusing my meat with cheese in a Texas sort of way. I can take my meat and tater friends to this truck without having to explain what diakon and kimchee are. Don't get me wrong. I love pickled diakon on my banh mi and caramelized kimchee on my tacos, but it's hard to convince someone who's raised on home cooking that they really want sour cabbage and pickled radish on their tacos.

Food for the common man served with uncommon quality! I'm all about that. And it rolls up to my hood. How SWEET is that?!
