They really have a nice patio now. I have only been to the back/outside by the water once and I would go back with friends. Otherwise it's a bit larger than I usually like for bars, but some people like huge places and they might like this.

Late night Soulard food run. It's Soulard, not gourmet food, but it was not bad. and it was a lot quieter than the surrounding bars which was really nice. Soulard is just not my thing but this was nice to get away from some of the crazier parts.

I want to rate this place higher but they need to maybe hire a few people or something. It always seems like it's either totally dead or the bartender and kitchen is swamped and needs help. Other than that I think it just needs to be there longer and get more of a crowd, and get a bit "broken in." It looks way out of place on Gravois because it's all new inside and most of those bars are old and a little run down with a lot of character.

The food is really inexpensive, though. One weird thing, they have no pork products so, for example, the bacon is beef bacon. They don't mention that unless you ask. It's still pretty good. The pizza was pretty good too. I did not care for their house "Wicked Sauce" on the wings, it tasted like canned chili without the meat and beans. But some people seem to like it so it might be worth a try.

Kerry Soraci's I Scream Cakes have been in the news repeatedly over the last couple years - check the RFT, the Post, etc. They are not just ice cream cakes, they are made with natural ingredients, real fruit, and a slightly twisted mind. For example, she once made me a cake that looked like a somewhat disturbing goat. It was awesome. At the shop you can get iscream cones, iscream sundaes (with fresh fruit), to-go packages, etc. They are still in the process of getting totally moved in so don't let the lack of furniture discourage you - it'll be there soon, and you can always walk down the street with an ice cream cone. They also make custom art cakes of pretty much anything you can imagine, although those have to be ordered in advance.

Free pizza on Monday nights! They use the same recipes as Black Thorn does for their pizza. You gotta be a vulture to get some on busy nights but that's a nice touch. The bar is nice enough and the bartenders are decent but usually a bit busier than I'd like. Not my favorite bar in STL but I do like the place and would take friends there with no problem. I like their parking (I still hate street parking and they have a separate lot) and sometimes they have live music or other stuff going on.

Great divey bar/drinking hole. The "Retox Center" up front has some good, stiff, cheap drinks and the pinball in back is fun if you like pinball. I like the crowd, a mix of punk, hipster, normal South City people, and whatever. Haven't eaten there, their menu looks horrifyingly gross and tasty at the same time. Some of the shot names may offend you if you are easily offended, but then I doubt that is the target audience of this place. It can get hot and crowded. But, as far as south city bars go, it's pretty sweet, I think. And there's no crappy music in the jukebox so it always sounds good.

Love the pan pizza. I don't like the deep dish, but hey, a lot of people do. I will say this, the service on the phone can be a bit surly, but then they seem nice in person once you get there. I have never eaten there, always just get carry out. It does take a long time to get a pizza but I call in on the drive home and it's ready when I get there. It's worth a visit at least once, if you like pizza.

NO KIDS ALLOWED, which is nice for a bar.

Love it! Interesting menu selections and their home-distilled liquors and home-brewed beers are all great. It is worth a stop. It's right near a notably good dessert place but last time I was there we just had dessert at Square One and it was very good too. I really like the polenta with black beans, avocado, etc. It's almost like chili and cornbread. Very filling and not expensive or high-calorie. If you like hard stuff, make sure you try all their home-distilled spirits because they are really high quality (in my opinion). I especially like the whiskey, it's definitely sipping quality.

The lasagna was some of the best I have ever had, in a little iron dish thing! The pizza is also great, and the garlic bread dough balls or whatever the little roll things they bring out... awesome. I would recommend this place even with all the nearby Italian places on the Hill.
