Quikpark LAX

Categories: Parking, Airports
Neighborhood: Westchester / LAX

After trying practically every other option, I've settled on Quikpark LAX. It's only about $11/day and the price is the same for valet through http://airportparkingr.... As close as you can get to the airport entrance - I've *almost* missed a number of flights but succeeded in racing to the gate thanks to QuikPark's always-leaving-within-5-minutes shuttle. Waits on the return (under the red sign) can be 5 minutes, occasionally (but rarely) up to 10.

You can also pay to get your car washed.

Surprised I haven't Yelped this yet -- but, alas, I'm back in the hunt after finding my fave spot sold out for the holidays. That said -- be sure to reserve in advance during busy travel times!

Casbah Café

As the name would suggest, it definitely has a Moroccan feel to it. I go exclusively for the hot mint tea. There are pastries, cheeses, and sandwiches as well, but Casbah's place on one of my favorite blocks in LA (bookended also by Intelligentsia and caddy-corner from Pazzo Gelato) is for its tables just big enough to fit a laptop and a drink. And that drink, for me, is hot, fresh, Moroccan Mint Tea.

NOTE: the most recent time I visited, I was told that I had to spend a minimum of $10 to get access to the Wi-Fi password. I'm assuming that was an aberration because otherwise it's just ridiculous.

When I called, the woman had a bit of a hard time understanding me, but I was able to call at 5:15 on a Wednesday for a 6pm ride to JFK. The LES-based car service was 5 minutes early to pick me up in East Village, the car was roomy and clean, the driver friendly and left me alone.

The fifth star? That's for the price -- $40 all included (before tip) -- less than the taxi fare and a helluva lot more comfortable!

Simply Thai Restaurant

I thought this place was pretty good for the price and the food.

It's very clean and fresh, not greasy.  We had the Tom Kha, sticky rice and the Drunken Noodles with chicken. Everything came out fast except for the drinks, which they were happy to comp (we were nearly done eating by the time they arrived).

It is probably not as authentic (or inexpensive) as the places in Thai Town but it is a good option for the neighborhood with nice decor.

Possibly the best Roasted Chicken lunch special (Wednesdays). $9.95 w/ rice and salad and it's totally addictive. We get it regularly in the office. Have yet to try the Thursday Baked Salmon special but will have to soon. SHOCKED that I'm the first to review this place -- I was actually looking for it on Yelp for months but wasn't sure of the spelling.

The service and ambience here is fabulous... very cozy spot in a sort of middle-of-nowhere area between culver city and marina del rey.

We had salmon and lamp chop tapas as well as some excellent wine. They wouldn't let us leave without dessert.

Looking forward to returning on a night when there is live music.

Nice to see some quasi-green initiatives as stated on their menu, however, the pizza itself seemed to be lacking in both cheese and sauce. Two things that I find to be quite central to my pizza. Our only other topping was Pepperoni -- it was good, the thin crust wood-fired action was tasty, however, this just isn't the best option in the neighborhood.

Also, they weren't delivering tonight because "the delivery guy didn't show up." D'oh!

I would be interested in checking out the courtyard eating area as mentioned below.

Update - 10/17/2008
On my most recent visit to 15 I learned that the restaurant will soon be taken over by (another) wine bar. Come October 24th 15 will be no more. To that end, there are numerous items on the menu that are unavailable. Still, the food is excellent, get it while you can or wait until they move into a new place, likely with higher prices.

I still really like this place after three visits. The topic of "new Echo Park" or whatever inevitably comes up each time but if 15 is a glimpse of things to come, at least they keep it real, keep it reasonable, and keep it damn tasty.

Think about it: There's 40-some condos going in across from Chango down the street, and undoubtedly the block east of Masa and across from Walgreen's will be seeing it's makeover in the coming years.

Anyway, back to 15 -- great service here, great variety of wine available for about $30 / bottle, and it's hard to beat a $12 Kobe burger w/ pomme frites.

The irony of people thinking it's too fancy for the area is the fact that it actually is kind of shaped like a mobile home, especially with the way you walk up a couple stairs and enter right in the middle of the joint.

Nice little Thai BBQ joint. I got the Chicken & Beef Teriyaki lunch special. There were no veggies, which is fine with me -- the beef was large pieces of skirt steak and the chicken was tasty (also large strips). Very friendly, and the only Thai takeout I could find on Yelp near Wilshire/Robertson.
