Warning: my boyfriend and I ate here last night. I ordered a turkey burger he ordered a regular burger. I felt a little queasy later in the night and today (the day after) my boyfriend has been throwing up endlessly. I'm worried about the cleanliness of their kitchen. Why is he so sick?? Terrible :(
Please beware of this restaurant!

I shop here approximately 1-2 times a month. Absolutely love it. I buy all of my fruits and veggies and sometimes bread. I purchase an entire box full of goodies for like $36 bucks.
Try the Dee's granola. It is almost the best thing I've ever tasted!

Let me start by saying that I have not yelped a word for months now. My experience at East Village was powerful enough to lure me back. Unfortuntely, Im not writing about the mind blowing 5 star encounter I wished to have. It was quite the opposite.
Im really not a picky eater, I dont care about authenticity or any of that jazz. I tend to like most foods especially if it is a combination of noodles and veggies. Hard to get that wrong, right? So I thought.
It was the veggie Monk's bowl served in a piping hot bowl. Looked and smelled perfectly good. Until there was this melting plastic smell. Not such a nice odor while youre trying to eat. I think maybe the bowl was a tad too hot? So anyway, I take a few bites and first realize how bland it is. I hope with all my might that the bites to come will be better. "Why is it so dry? Is the rice supposed to be crunchy?" my mouth wants to know. I pour on the nearest sauce at the table, "Why am I covering up my food with hot sauce and forcing it down my throat?" my brain wants to know.
I went on strike and sat and watched my equally dissatisfied but starving husband shove it down his throat. Such a sad sight to see. Never ever once has my husband Not finished a meal and not ever has he denied the opportunity of taking left overs.
Its a bad feeling to pay for food that will end up in the trash.
I went home and made myself a bowl of spaghetti noodles topped with dressing and parmesan...and let me tell you...it blew the monk's bowl out of this freakin world.
Still confused about what went wrong. Why put dry food in a hot bowl that will make it even more dry? Why do all those simple ingredients sound so delicious and then turn out so bad?
I will not return.  I regret turning down KIM'S restaurant (which is so delicious!).

Hands down the best Italian food I've ever had. The service was fabulous and the bartender rocks.
Had caprese for appetizer. I ordered the seafood fettucine with vodka sauce and hubby had the seafood ciopinno. We got a bottle of wine too. Oh, and there was bread with o.oil and vinegar too. I'm writing this and salivating. My hubby looooved his food as well.
It was valentines day so it was busy but we still had great service.
Then we finished the night at the bar with an espresso. Superb.
Love it, love it, love it.
Btw: I read all the reviews and people complained about the pizza and crazy manager. Who orders pizza at Italian places??? That's just silly in my opinion, go to a pizza place!
Food is fabulous and we will return again and again.

Toucan's Tiki Lounge

It was a Palm Spings weekend trip with four other ladies that ended up here. And MAN, was it FUN! I don't really care that I was so wasted I thought I was at Club Pink the entire night (and the following day until one of my lady friends corrected me). I'm a straight married girl that had a freakin' blast at Toucans. I actually am surprised I didnt get thrown out. Between completely molesting the male dancer and offering the cuddly russian-looking bouncer a shot, (whom, btw had never had a sip of alcohol until that night..wth? I feel like a shot rapist!) i really think I was a liability to my friends.  But, wait, then Nicole took over for the dancer on his stand during his matching tighty whitey, sock, and bandana wardrobe change. I offered a dollar to her from my teeth and she gladly took it. And then the bouncer ever so swiftly picked her up and put her back on normal ground.
Fabulous!
I met some amazing gay men that night too. How much fun it was :)
Like I said...I heart Palm Springs.

Jake's

Normally I am a food snob. Jake's food is good...not the best I've ever had, but good. So why the five stars? Well, for starters I don't think any food establishment should soley be rated on it's food. Yes, thats mainly why you go there, but not for me and the four other sexy ladies I went with. We had lunch at Jake's and had a splendid time mingling at the bar with others and drinking mimosas. So much fun that we just had to venture back later that night for dinner. I forgot to mention the most important part...the motivation was the nice looking bartender that my ladies lusted over. YUP.
So, that night we went and straddled up at the bar. My embarassment for being there for the second time that day slowly evaporated into the beer, watermelon sangria, and some kind of sweet nasty shot. I do agree that the food took a little too long. But I simply just asked the handsome bartendar after an hour "where the F* my food was?" in a cute flirty way of course :) and it came out a few minutes later.
We pretty much closed the place down and hugged Jake the owner for having us wrecks. The bartender will forever be our secret boyfriend. (Btw, matt if you read this..Hiyeeee!).
It was a night I will never forget!     (that might also be from our Toucans Club experience as well. be sure to read that review..wow!)
I heart Palm Springs.

BIKE Palm Springs

Category: Bike Rentals

Bike Palm Springs Rentals really made my weekend! Me and a couple of lady friends rented these pimped out bikes for a few hours. You get to pick your color bike (my girly friends were pink and purple. Mine was rad-teal!). Make sure to get a bike with a bell so you can be as obnoxious as possible especially after you've had a few wine coolers. Oh, speaking of which, make sure you get a basket too. Oh, and speaking of which again, don't put your open wine cooler in the water bottle holder and then try to pop a wheely. Cuz then you'll have to wipe down your bike like I did.
Anywho.... I highly reccommend renting bikes from here. Its fun, you get some exercise, and you can do a lame ass tour of random celebrities homes....which we turned into a tour of open houses and humored the realtors of Palm Springs!
Suggestion to owners: Please put Palm Springs Liquor on the Map.
Also: I'm sorry I got red wine cooler on your pretty bike and I love you guys.
Lastly: I dare everyone to make it to Elvis' house... you'll see ;)
Extra lastly: These bikes rock!

Cozymel's Mexican Grill

I made the choice to have my lady friends meet at Cozymel's after work because I remembered back to a few years ago and they had really good guacamole and chips and salsa.
The chips and salsa were still good but I was totally disappointed in my entree. I ordered chicken tacos with crispy shells with a side of rice and beans. Honest to god, it was as if they had taken the chicken tacos straight from Taco Bell put them on a plate and then put canned beans and rice on the side. The worst part was that I paid $15 for that crap. What kind of a restaurant uses crispy shells out of a box? Crispy shells in SD means FRIED.
How do you mess up a chicken taco when you are a mexican retaurant? Especially in San Diego. Ay yay yay.

Star Fashion Salon

I really feel horrible about this review but I gotta do it to save you from a disaster.
My story goes like this: I was two months from being married and still hadn't found a dress. After hearing everybody tell me how important the dress is and how I should splurge and go custom I finally did. I owned a beautiful light yellow dress that I adored and decided to have Star Fashion re-make in White as my wedding dress for $500.
After being measured the dress went into production all the while they had hold of my original yellow dress. I went back to get the dress fitted and during this process I was told to put on a bustier and the lady stuffed it with ridiculously huge padding and I looked like some kind of freak show. Now, I was a little worried. I took the pads out and said I wanted a more natural look. The part that was even more weird is that the lady (wilhelmina) that normally works there wasnt even the one fitting me it was someone else they hired.
So, my dress was finished a few days before my wedding, I went in tried it on again and noticed it fit funny but thought if I maybe tried a different bra it might fit better. I was really worried though because I only had a few days before the wedding. It was 2 days before the wedding and I try it on for my best friend and she agrees that the dress is just not made well, the seams were crooked, the zipper was chunky and and not hiddne like the original, the pleats were pressed to look like folded paper. The dress was an absolute mess!
Needless to say, I did not sleep that night and I was up at 5 am trying to fix the dang thing myself. I finally gave in and decided it just wasn't meant to be and decided to wear a $50 white dress that I had bought a really long time ago that was crumpled in my trunk that I had never gotten around to returning. (Thank god!)
Not only did my dress turn out a disaster but my original dress was missing the padding from the bust!!!
The kicker??? After going back to see if there was any way to get a refund or some type of compensation I walk in and there is my dress hanging in the showroom in BLUE?!!! WTF? They used my original pattern to make profit for themselves!
So, in the end I lost out on $500, was stressed on my wedding day, had to wear a crappy wedding dress, had my original dress ruined, had my dress pattern STOLEN, and then was NOT compensated.
SAVE YOURSELF! DO NOT HAVE A CUSTOM DRESS MADE!!!!!!!!

Sorella della Taverna

Category: Italian
Neighborhood: La Jolla

Update - 10/6/2009
I promised I would 'Yelp!' Sorella della Taverna again after my catered wedding reception, so here goes:
MaryAnne, the owner, was sweet as pie from the first day I went in. I told her I had a budget and what it was and she stayed much below my budget and provided my day with fresh AMAZING food. We picked out a combination of cold foods for my picnic-in-the-park style event. There was potato salad, 2 different kinds of green salad, 4 different kinds of sandwiches, roasted veggies, roasted zucchinis, 4 different kinds of pastas. I payed approximately $11 a head for food. The only thing that I can even find to whine about is that we had TOO MUCH food! I could have had another 75 people there and we would have had just enough food. In that case it would have been like $7 a head!
But that really is the best problem to have.
I highly reccomend using Sorella's or Taverna's food for your next event. Mary Anne made me feel like she really cared and everything was great! Plus, her pricing is fantastic for the quality of food that you get. Big hugs to MaryAnne for making my special day so perfect.

All I needed was one sandwich to tell me that this would be another favorite lunch spot of mine. I had the "Celebrity" sandwich and it was fantastic; fresh, tastey and unique.
I could just tell by looking at the desserts and other deli items that this is a place that knows their food. Im going to go back to try out the other items becuase Im pretty set on the idea of using them to cater my wedding reception. I'll Yelp again after the reception.
