Mercy Wine Bar Inc

The food was perfectly cooked to my liking. I got the swordfish with pasta. We as well got the hummus with red pepper and foccacia bread. Both of which were very good. Most of the meals are between $11-25.00. Personally I think there is something on the menu for everyone. My friend is vegetarian and had no problem finding food to eat. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have more of the Spanish and Italian wines that I enjoy; specifically Rioja. The various wines that they have are good but I would have expected a lot more from certain countries wines. Either way, I did like the fact that their wine flights can be chosen per glass and each have their own prices. You can get a 3 oz for half-price of a 6oz glass, if you want to try different things.
The wait staff are all extremely friendly and the hostess that we had wanted to make sure we were sat in the perfect place for our evening. There was a great little spot upstairs that was perfect for two people. Albeit a little cold, but still secluded and cozy. Each waiter that came by was always checking to make sure that we were satisfied and if we had any questions.
I marked the place as being somewhat pricey because it will really depend on what you get. We ordered a moderately priced bottle of wine, an appetizer, and dinner(s). Which came out to around 60ish per person with tip. If you just got an appetizer and some glasses of wine you would get out fairly cheap. The average glass of wine was around $9-11 dollars.
Parking shouldn't really be that bad, it's in the big shopping center or center with other restaurants and stores off of Belt-Line and the Tollway.
As someone else mentioned, I wish this place was closer to where I live. I would visit here much more often.
Parking is generally always a pain in this area. If you're lucky enough to find an open spot right in front of the building than you're set. If not, look down Cole/Carlisle/McKinney and go for a hopefully breezy stroll. If not, look forward to stacking that cup up much fuller once you get there. If you're out and about in West Village on a hot day/night, I would highly suggest this. I will definitely be going back.
Also, I thought every flavor was great. I gave this a 4 star because I haven't been to any other yogurt places like this in Dallas.

Lumi Empanada & Dumpling Kitchen
Categories: Asian Fusion, Tapas Bars
Neither of the two of us were overly hungry so we elected to get some of the Edamame, Dumplings, and Empanadas instead of any main entrees. It ended up being just the right amount of food for the two of us. I as well got the Won ton Soup. It's a personal travesty if I visit any sort of Asian restaurant and don't try out the Won ton Soup. I thought it was really good and was plenty full of won tons and their deliciousness. We got the spinach, mozzarella, and portobello mushroom empanadas. Now, I pretty much hate mushrooms with a passion but I gave these a shot. I can say that I didn't even really notice the mushrooms, they were definitely there but not in a way that bothered me or I really noticed. I could have eaten a tray of them. As for the dumplings we got an order of the Shrimp, Cilantro, and Jicama; steamed. These were really good. My other is a vegetarian so this was really one of the only ones she could get without any sort of meat in it. She really enjoyed them as well. These I as well could have eaten a truck load of. In regards to the dumplings and empanadas, these are not meant to be big meals as much as they would be side dishes or appetizers. If you come in with a big appetite, you might end up needing to order a couple of different things. If you made your way down the menu you would end up being pretty full by the end of it all. Next we moved onto dessert (which I don't really do, I blame the female for this one). So, she was very excited about the Green Tea Creme Brule & Ice Cream. It was a nice size and enough for two people to split if they don't want an entire dessert by themselves. Otherwise, the right amount for a single person. As far as flavor goes we both thought it was really good. The top layer was done nicely and had a good crunch to it. We both agreed though, that the inside was just a bit too "watery". It was a bit mushy, not so badly that we didn't still enjoy it. The flavor of the green tea came through nicely and didn't draw away from it to me at all. After my bite or two she finished it off for us. Vegetarians are fairly limited on the selection of food items, most of them have some sort of meat product in them. Also, I believe a lot of the things are pre-made.
Okay, calm down, I know I haven't said anything about the drinks yet. Geez, you alchie, I'll tell you. The specialty drinks, first off, all sound very girlie. Seeing as I am a guy, this means that they pretty much sound awesome and if my counterpart gets one, I will too. We got Lychee Mojito (that was my deliciousness) and she got the St. Germaine Elderflower, champagne. Both of them were excellent, great flavor and not so sweet you can't drink them. As I sipped on that I also got a couple glasses of wine. The wine menu was pretty decent, not too badly priced per glass. About what I would have expected $8+ per glass.
I am definitely interested in going back here for more. I don't think there is much on the menu I wouldn't enjoy or try. I recommend sitting outside if you are able to, and it is nice outside. Parking actually isn't too bad. There is a parking lot behind the building that may/may not be full. If it is you could either park on the back street parallel to McKinney (Cole, I think) and then cut through the apartment complex to get to the restaurant. You could as well park over in the West Village parking garage and make a short walk over. Very easy. There are also valet stations across the street for any of the restaurants on that block.
Pricing isn't too bad. With drinks and a few food items you'll probably end up about $30-35.00 per person. Now, the main entrees are about $20.00 per person so you could end up spending more than that. The main attraction isn't really the main entrees as much as it is getting tapas style food and things you can share with others.

Hurricane Grill
Categories: Cajun/Creole, Seafood
I'm an extremely picky eater and honestly the menu all sounded really good to me. They have what I would expect on a Cajun/ New Orleans style menu. Seafood, Rice & Beans, Sausage, etc. I wasn't very hungry so I only got the steamed vegetables and the macaroni and cheese. I pretty much can't go anywhere without trying the mac 'n cheese. It says its a spicy three cheese macaroni and cheese. Honestly, it wasn't spicy at all but that was okay with me as I am a 6 year old girl when it comes to things that are too spicy. It was really cheesy and actually had more than enough for me to dip my vegetables in, which was awesome. My friend got the blackened chicken pasta which smelled and looked really good. It was pretty large in terms of portions. The way I eat I could have split it with someone else and still have been full. I don't have a huge appetite so take that how you will. All of the food I saw going by looked just as good and I am very interested in going back to try out more than just the side dishes.
As far as drinks go I got the Hurricane with extra 151 on top. It was pretty good. They were $7.00 a piece with the extra 151 which is about average for most places I have ever been to in regards to Hurricane prices. Wasn't the best I have had but it was pretty tasty. Not overly sugary and at the same time not overly strong, even with the 151. Now either I'm a drunk and can't taste the alcohol anymore, or it was a good blend of sugar and alcohol. I'm gonna go with the ladder and say it was a good mix. Makes me feel better that way.
The patio isn't very large, this also doubles as the smoking area so it could be full on most evenings. In terms on the inside it is pretty large. They have a small stage where local acts come and play (free show). They have your typical arcade games and more than enough places to sit for a decent size group.
Parking can always be a pain on Greenville so I usually end up parking on one of the side streets and walking up a little ways back to wherever I am going. You could always valet somewhere if you wanted and then come back to it later. I gave this 3 stars because I didn't get much to eat or really drink. I would like to come back and try out more.
The wait staff are very friendly and are very open to giving you their recommendations or making sure you have everything you need. They also have no issue with splitting checks or even letting you sit there for a while without ordering. They don't seem to be in a huge hurry. This could change if they were really busy though. Drink prices seemed pretty average and they do have most of the New Orleans cocktails I am used to seeing.
My initial reason for going over to Double Wide was to watch a coworkers band play. I wasn't totally happy with paying a cover to listen, but I guess that's just me wanting it to be free. Either way it wasn't very much and there is a bar in the listening area as well. After witnessing a coworker wearing extremely tight white pants I decided it was in my best interest to begin blacking that from my memory. Drinks are of a relatively decent price. Very comparable to most places around. I would say that some of them weren't as strong as I would have preferred but it did depend on which bartender I ended up getting. I think the main bar area poured better drinks than the venue area but its hard to say as I had many, many, drinks that night.
I didn't spend much time on the patio but it was pretty large and on a nice evening a group of people could sit outside and enjoy one another's company very easily.
There was a parking lot off to the side of the building that you can park in. A security guy was walking around checking things out and as far as I know the parking was free. We didn't pay and our car wasn't towed so I guess you can take that as free. You should be able to find a spot but if not you can drive around the corner and park on a side street. Like most places in the Deep Ellum area you could have a little walk if you park far away. You shouldn't have to though.
I will definitely spend more time over at the Double Wide and try out their custom drink concoctions, as I hear they are very good.

The food is really good. I would highly recommend the California Turkey sandwich. It is awesome! I don't like avocado and I love that sandwich. Its definitely possible to split it with someone. It is a fairly large serving, plus also includes fries (or sub for a salad). I've tried most of their menu or seen at least the entirety of the menu coming out of the kitchen. I can say that I don't think anything you get here wouldn't be good. Besides, most food is pretty darn awesome once you've started drinking. I've been here quite a bit and always had great service. A lot of the time the bartender will also be waiting tables so on occasion you may have to wait a little bit to get served. If there's not a band playing there is also a bar upstairs that is usually open.
Friday/Saturday nights can get pretty busy. There are bands that play upstairs (usually a cover) and people wander in from Plush and the other clubs in the area for late night drinking. Saturday afternoons are good if you want a somewhat quiet place to go hangout and have some food/drink. Food prices are not too bad, depending on what you get. Typical prices in my opinion.
You are downtown so best of luck with parking. There's a lot/garage you can use down towards Griffith. Usually about $5.00 to park, its a short walk down from there. I also will park on the street by Elm/Akard. You can usually find spots there but not always depending on the day/night time.

Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery

So, I ended up deciding to go away from the pancakes that I initially wanted and elected to get a Veggie Scrambler with egg-whites and a side of fruit. My counterpart didn't like that very much as she got the Normandy (french-toast with strawberries and cream). I had some of her plate as well (yeah. yeah, I know, I've eaten too much by this point). I can't see how anything on their menu wouldn't be good. We both enjoyed our brunch and were trying to pay someone to carry us out as my stomach was lodging me into the booth.
You might be wondering why I have yet to mention one of the other main reasons for going to brunch.. Mimosas! Well, we elected to not get any mimosas here. They're just a little too proud of them for my wallet. $10.00 for one mimosa that honestly isn't that large. I drink a lot of liquid so I would have gone through a monthly budget in them. Now, they're a pretty healthy size but I still don't think they are worth that much. The champagne they use is pretty good and they're individual bottles per mimosa so you can image the size that they are from there. A bit bigger than most brunch places. Still, considering you can get bottomless at places for between 10-20.00 this is not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend getting them due to the cost. They do have frozen mimosas, bellinis, and a pretty big assortment of drinks to offer you. I'm sure you can find something within a reasonable price to get.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the diversity of the wait staff as well as the patrons. Its a really cool establishment and sets itself apart from many of the other places in Dallas. Wednesday night are half-price bottle of wine nights and there are also specials at the Corner Bar right next door.
If you're looking for places to park I would recommend either the valet across the street or finding something on the street behind Breadwinners off of Cole and Hall. Parking is a pain but you could also park down in the west village parking garage and walk over a block or two and save yourself the hassle. That's also free to park in. I have heard very good things about the dinner menu here so I am interested in trying it out. The desserts look really good, and I'm not one to eat desserts or have a sweet tooth. If you have some patience or don't mind sitting outside this place is worth it. After nearly 2 years of living in Dallas, I can say I finally managed to make it over to Breadwinners. People continuously yell and scream at me for places I have yet to visit while living here for this amount of time. I can now finally smack them in the face a little bit and say that I have been to at least here now. I will be making my way back again. The menu is very large and extremely tasty.
We sat down out our table and the waiter appeared right away. He was very helpful in trying to choose a good meal and offering his suggestions. The specials all sounded very good but I wasn't in the mood for any of them. I was in an odd mood that night and elected for the spaghetti and turkey meatballs. Yeah, I'm super adventurous, aren't I? Either way I was pleased with the meal and it was exactly what I was looking for. My companion for the evening elected to go for a scallops, mushrooms, and truffle oil based pasta. She really enjoyed it and found it to be quite filling. I'm not overly into mushrooms so I didn't enjoy how hers tasted as much.
A couple of days later while trying to determine a good brunch spot I ran across a couple of reviews and found that they actually have $1.00 mimosas and a very good brunch menu. I for one, love me the hell out of some brunch. The vanilla french toast with fruit sounded absolutely perfect. We arrived to the restaurant around 1:00 or so on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly busy but now so busy that we didn't immediately get a table. The waiter again was on top of everything and very open to giving suggestions. We ordered the french toast, custom omelet, and focaccia bread (I don't believe is on the menu). It was the perfect combination of food to ease my hangover from the night before. I'm not sure if I was just that hungry or if the food was just that good but we ate everything we ordered and drank our weight in mimosas.
I would highly recommend trying the restaurant, I very much enjoyed all of the food I have gotten as well as the staff and atmosphere. Parking seems to be the tough spot as the parking lot is fairly small and the street gets rather full. The parking lot comes up quickly as you are going down armstrong so make sure not to pass it up. The wine list I found to be pretty good as well. Price is about what I would expect for most restaurants, 7-10.00 per glass. I will definitely be visiting here again. If anything for their brunch menu. The dinner was good but not something where I haven't had better and some of the prices are a bit more than I would want to pay for a place that I would go to often. Average of 14.00+ per entree.
The staff is always on top of everything. My glass is rarely low for less than a few moments. We all tend to drink quite a bit of the margaritas and they very rarely stay empty for long. I have never once had an issue with getting my check separated or an order that may have come out with something I couldn't eat on it (rare).
Also, if you go at lunch you get a card so that your 6th visits entree, is free! You can't beat going in and getting free food. It's excellent. There are many places that you can find to park if the lot across the street isn't free. There's usually parking on one of the side-streets or further up past the restaurant.

The evening I went we got the "doso" it's one of their more popular pizzas. Very basic: cherry tomatoes, olive oil, spicy olive oil, basil, crushed red pepper, garlic, and mozzarella. I also added red peppers (great choice, high five to me). It's got some spice to it. We started our meal with the "focaccia". The focaccia was good as well, although, kind of a tease since it comes in the form of a pizza.
The large doso could serve approximately 3 people each having 2-2.5 slices. Myself and other half got a large and took home a couple slices of pizza as well as some of the focaccia. I was actually full after two slices. I should tell you that these days I have the appetite to that of a toddler. I could see a "normal" person being able to down quite a bit of these. These aren't overly thick pizzas, if you get a bunch of ingredients (meats, etc) they'll definitely size up quite a bit.
The initial waitress we had got slightly annoyed that we weren't sure what we wanted right away. A few minutes later we knew what we wanted and she was busy with other things (as in the internet). Another gentleman came by and took our orders a few minutes after that. It was slightly irritating but after we put our order in everything came fairly quickly and they got much better. I drink my drinks like that of a thirsty dog after being outside chasing squirrels; and have the ability to contain water to that of a camel. Ok, you get my point, I drink a lot and they had to refill it all the time. They made no fuss over this and kept coming by frequently to check on me. In summary, the service started out slow but got much better as we ate our food.
Some general info: It is BYOB, they only offer sodas, tea, coffee, espresso, and water. You can walk in and sit anywhere. I went at night so not sure how the outside seating is (they have it though). You can park in the back of the building, in the front of the building, down the street in the west village parking garage, or somewhere nearby down McKinney. They also deliver (check out their website). They don't have a lot of seating room so if it is busy you might have to wait or get carry-out. I would say the place could fit around 20 people. To me it lends itself more to that of a place you would go during they day more than at night. It is a very basic environment. As far as I know there aren't really any places that are walking distance close to get any drinks. Make sure you get any alcoholic beverage you may want beforehand.
I would highly recommend going here and trying out the pizza. If you are a fan of thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients, you'll enjoy it. After your pizza I would also suggest going next door to "Yogi-Licious" and getting your dessert. That's what I did. It was awesome.
When they offer you the parmesan to top your food with, you darn well better say yes or you shall be smited.
