We had the calamari and carnitas tacos appetizers- both solid starters, although the carnitas tacos were about the same as taco truck tacos (which isn't a bad thing) but 3x the price. My braised short ribs entree was definitely one of the better short ribs I've had. Service was a tad on the slow side but our waitress was serving what looked like half the restaurant, so no biggie really.

I agree with everyone else, their burgers are excellent and just the right size. I hate eating burgers and feeling like I have to unbutton my pants. The fries along side the burgers were almost as good as the burger itself.
The only complaint I have about this place is the layout is a little confusing at first- you walk in and the kitchen is right next to you with the bar way at the back. Threw me off a little... I'm always used to seeing a bar up front.

We ordered what was supposed to be fried chicken wings for an appetizer... instead we got these really strange fried bone things. They seriously looked like a fried wontonwith a huge rat bone sticking out of them. And to our surprise, there was supposedly chicken in there mixed in with some strange tasting batter and some sort of vegetable...we couldn't tell. The strangest thing was that on the menu it literally said fried chicken wings, not 'weird mystery meat and vegetable drumstick thing'.
Everything else we ordered was either greasy, oversalted, or just overpriced. Puck needs to either take his name off this place or revamp it. Skip it and eat somewhere else.

Our party of four decided to go big (I don't believe in coming to these caliber restaurants and ordering small) and we were rewarded with Kobe filet mignon, Kobe ribeye, Kobe skirt steak, and Kobe sirloin. Being a chefs' tasting menu, we did not get to decide what starters/sides/cuts/desserts to order, but this made the experience that much more exciting. The entire meal was served family style, giving everyone an opportunity to try everything. The wine list was equally impressive, actually it was more like a book than a list. Apparently there were over 700 wines in it, with some bottles topping over $8000 (we did NOT go this big).
Each cut of meat was presented in either a cast iron or stainless steel pan, complete with the most amazing steak sauce reductions. The filet, ribeye, and skirt steak easily could have been the best three cuts of steak I've ever had. The Kobe sirloin seemed pedestrian in comparison, but was easily up there with most cuts at any other top steakhouse. The starters and sides were also very good with the highlights being the Kobe beef tartare and the potato puree. The four desserts were also excellent but probably weren't enjoyed as much because all of us were in a Kobe-beef induced haze.
The service, decor and ambiance was excellent as expected, my only complaint being that the restaurant is super dim. Everyone in our party agreed that they'd definitely come back despite the bill, but probably would order a la carte since we knew what cuts of meat and sides we wanted, and we probably wouldn't order quite as much food. Thanks, Tom Colicchio!

I was pleasantly surprised with the no pretense, down to earth wait staff and the excellent service. The food was definitely worthy of 5 stars...we had the Cooked Salumi meat plate to start and I went with the braised short ribs for my entree. They were so tender I probably could've eaten them with a spoon. My gf had the quail which was insanely good. The place was definitely loud, but we sat upstairs at a table overlooking the downstairs area which was much more private and out of the way.
There were so many options on the menu that I'd definitely go back and try, but next time I might try rocking the chucks just to spite 'em.

I started off with the mushroom soup, which was a little disappointing. It was way oversalted, to the point that the soup broth was unedible. The ingredients in it were good and the poached egg cut the saltiness, but too much is too much. My entree was the pan roasted sea bass and my gf had the half-chicken, both were excellent and made up for the soup misstep. We also had a plate of fries with saffron aioli. For dessert I had the blueberry pie and she had the rocky road, both were seriously good and a nice way to end the meal.
Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes, but he did have a few lapses here and there, mainly forgetting to give us our leftovers. Chalk it up to new restaurant jitters. Really the best part was the Chef coming out himself to serve us and taking the time after our dinner to chat with us for 5 minutes, knowing that my gf used to go to his previous restaurant. Things like that make you want to go back, despite its imperfections.
