I don't know what place these other raters were going to, but Centro is excellent. I took a party of 18 people to the lounge and everybody was raving about the place.
The food is excellent! Who would have thought that sauteed artichokes could bring tears to your eyes? Spicy tiger shrimp, shrimp cerviche, the chicken wings, the flat breads -- all top-notch.
Centro's atmosphere is also very appealing. It is more an upscale cocktail lounge than a sports bar (like the rest of the Lakeview neighborhood). DJs late on weekends.

Shokran is amazing!
Excellent food! Their use of subtle spices and slow-cooked meats creates tender flavorful dishes that put any of your previous ideas area Middle Eastern restaurants to shame. I especially recommend the Lamb Casablanca. The Tilapia Tagine is another winner.
The prices are quite reasonable for what you get and the restaurant is BYOB with no corkage fee. Be sure to make a reservation on weekends, because the word has gotten out and the place can be packed.

Psistaria is one terrifc Greek restaurant.
The restaurant's modest exterior really doesn't give much of an indication of the clean, contemporary appeal of the Greek island-styled interior nor the high quality of the food.
Indeed, if you love lamb chops, I encourage you to try Psistaria's luscious "Lamb Chops by the Pound." They are heavenly. The "Shrimps and Scallops ala Mikrolimano" are also quite tasty.
The service is attentive and the management seems to aim to please. Show up on a Saturday night around 9:30, and you can listen to a variety of traditional Greek bouziki music, and singing.

CoSiNa Grill is a very good little neighborhood Mexican restaurant. It is located in the former home of Fajita Grill, but the connections stops there. CoSiNa is much more upscale cuisine, has better service and is significantly more accomplished overall than its predecessor.
The food options and the portions are both plentiful. The fish dishes are especially good, as are the mole entrees. The warm chips and salsas are an inviting touch. The guacamole while good is a little pricey for the portion.
The fact that the restaurant is BYOB is another plus. They do sell mixers so that you can make margaritas with your own tequila. Bringing a good robust Zinfandel or Shiraz is another way to complement the food.

This is absolutely one of my favorite places to dine in Chicago. If you are looking for a romantic spot, it is especially appropriate and one of Chicago's new hidden gems.
Palette has a wonderfully intimate atmosphere with dark woods and dim lights. The food is excellent, and pairs well with a small but well-chosen wine list. I am especially fond of their trout entree, though the pork cheeks are another excellent choice.
You'll find service is attentive, professional and friendly.

Wow, I originally gave 5 stars to the Theatre Cafe.
Then, after Chef Jack left, and they changed the menu and the name (to DeVine) , I went back and woah, what a disappointment.
The wine list was anything but divine. The food has become more run-of-the-mill Serbian-influenced dishes like you might find in nearly any restaurant in the area. The ambiance remained nice, with the exception of the added TVs. The servers were nice but lacking in knowledge of the menu and precision.
The place needs some real direction and professionalism.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants. Unfortunately, it has now closed.
Unfortunately, this restaurant closed late in 2008. It has been replaced by Ti Amo.
