Lunch today was amazing.  I had the Red Flannel Hash which includes  beef brisket - roasted beets - arugula - crispy potatoes - horseradish creme fraiche -  poached eggs & grilled levain.  I am not sure what that levain is but everything else was super tasty!  (maybe that was the bread thing?)  Well the beef was crumbling as I spiked my fork into it and the eggs were poached perfectly.  Then as we were wrapping up the stars of Mythbusters showed up...

Warning: this is pretty much a burger-only review as Serpentine was voted #7 in 7x7 Magazine's Best Burger Roundup and of course we're going down the list and doing our own reviews.

Now I'll say that the meat here is fantastic, the bun is well made and the garnishes are all solid, but it ended up feeling like this was the kind of burger that if you went out and got all the best ingredients and knew a little about cooking, you could come up with this.  I don't know much else about Serpentine and many restaurants offer burgers as the 'easy-out' option for those who are not so adventurous.  Well, this burger is solid, and definitely a tasty option, but I just didn't get any of that wow factor from it.

I'd give Serpentine an overall four star rating but since I'm basing this solely on the burger I'm going to stick with a three star "A-OK" rating.  I think Pearl's does a great job and could hold it's own to Serpentine's burgers so if you like Pearls (and I love them) then you will know what to expect.

However, for a more fine dining type establishment and being in 7x7 Magazine's top ten, it left me wanting more.

The space is pretty nice and modern, the service was ok too, and the calamari appetizer we ordered was pretty good - as were the cocktails.

Breakfast burrito review here!  If you want a nice tasty breakfast burrito that's straight up and nothing too fancy, Red Cafe is for you.  No exotically "Californian" ingredients and a nice counter to sit at make for a great hangover fixer.  The breakfast burrito here is pretty nicely sized and you can get it a number of ways.  I had bacon as my meat and it was solid.  It does get crowded here a lot on weekends though so be warned!

Oh HRD Spicy Pork Kimchi Breakfast Burrito - you are marvelous!  The spicy kick, the meat, the kimchi, the potatoes even.  As you may know, I'm a bit of a potato nazi when it comes to potatoes in my breakfast burritos.  I hate when they are mushy and goopy - they need to be crisp on the outside but not dry inside.  The potatoes in the breakfast burrito here aren't necessarily crisp, but within the context of the other ingredients it works just right.  One of my favorite breakfast burritos in town.  The others are Arlequin Cafe, Hazel's Kitchen and Velo Rouge if you wanna compare tastes...  Plus the staff here are super cool and friendly - an easy business to support!

Just went here for the first time since the dot com era (the original one!) and it's really good in this incarnation.  I can't remember if it was a different business name back when Organic was across the street and Dave Eggers was writing about South Park for "A Heartbreaking work..."  Anyhow, I had the spicy pork kimchee burrito and it was delish!   Service was very friendly and I guess I got there at the right time b/c by the time I left there was a huge line outside.  Can't wait to try their breakfast burrito!

Good times at the Yelp holiday Hangover.  Since I wasn't able to maximize my indulgence I will remove one star from my maximum potential... Otherwise, it was a great mix of people and the drinks, especially the Old Fashioneds were awesome.

Another trip to Gestalt after watching Everyday Sunshine, the Fishbone documentary at the Roxie, which, incidentally is great! - had me and my friend Dan landing at Gestalt to discuss the film and kick it since we hadn't hung out yet in 2012.  The bartender tonight was Daniel and he's the owner so it was fun chatting with him about beer and business.  The vibe inside is still nice and the music the DJ was playing on a Wednesday night was excellent.  Also they have Rodenbach Grand Cru in the 750 bottles here for $15 - a great price for an amazing sour beer!

I was almost going to order a sandwich too but it was a bit late for that.  Definitely still a solid choice for a good beer and chill atmosphere (although I guess on weekends it does get pretty crowded)

So I've been to Gestalt and seen it evolve over time.  I was a bit sad when the bike racks were removed, but thanks to the San Francisco Bike Coalition, there's a good amount of bike parking in the city.  Anyhow, I never really ate here until I got a Scoutmob for them and tried the 16th Street sandwich.  It was really good - toasted up just right, and the bacon is great and crunchy.  The bun is also tops.  I think I recall seeing that it's fresh baked each day on the sign out front.

Plus they have lots of pretty good beers on tap and you can even get them in liters.  I think I'll try more sammies now and then post another review but definitely enjoy Gestalt - and they have free WiFi!

Dungeness Crab breakfast burrito review!  I had a craving for a breakfast burrito and noticed they had all kinds of funky options at the SFFC so I went for the dungeness crab.  The crab itself was pretty good, but the burrito is a bit on the smaller side compared to an average b'fast burrito you might get in SF.  Also the egg was made into a patty that was folded into the burrito which is not a style I enjoy as much.  If you like the egg-as-omelette-folded-into-your-breakfast-burrito you'll be pleased, but i prefer scrambled eggs that are still fluffy and light instead of matted down.

Anyhow, the other ingredients added flavor but there wasn't quite enough of them for my tastes.  I know the crab should be the primary flavor but it didn't all come together for me.  Oh well!, maybe the salmon one would have been a better choice - i'll try that next time!

Us locals know the Wharf is for tourists but there are a few exceptions and Musee Mecanique is one of them (the other one being, obviously, In-n-Out Burger!).

I love old school film photobooths, pinball and retro arcade games, all of which reside here at Fisherman's Wharf.  It's pretty random an assortment of games, and if you are enjoying some of our cities famed medicinal goods or truffles (see truffle guy) then this is even more fun!

Hop on an F-line after you consume a truffle, play around with the games here then satisfy your munchies with a Double Double Zack Style - this is a new style created by Zack, who works at the Wharf In-n-Out that is similar to my own style, but with a twist...

I've been going to the Knockout for years.  It's a great bar that's low key but can get crowded on the weekends.  It's a nice spot for stiff drinks and good times.  They used to have a film photobooth I think but now it's a digital one unfortunately (I'm old school that way).

I wish they still had the Polaroid one and I bet a lot of people do, but they have digital one now.  Can't say too much about it except it is a photobooth...
