If you care about your clothes, don't bring them here. My lesson learned is to pay a little more for trustworthy alterations.
The alterations:
I needed a hem and taper on a bridesmaid dress. It came back with iron streaks down both sides and uneven and bumpy hemming along the bottom and sides.
And worse, the experience. After initially dropping off the dress, I had to go back three times.
Re-visit #1:
- I went to go pick up the dress, and they handed me the dress and expected me to pay right away. They didn't mention any of the ironing damage, and they seemed reluctant to let me try it on. I insisted, and I was really upset when I saw the damage on both sides. It was so visible, and the fabric was definitely ruined.
- At first, the owner played dumb and said they couldn't see anything.
- Then he acted confused and said he didn't know how that could happen.
- After about 10 minutes, he said he could give me half off of the alteration.
- Because he didn't want to pay for ruining the dress, he told me to give him a few more days to try to get it dry cleaned. If it didn't fix the damage, then he said he would pay for the dress.
Re-visit #2:
- There was no change to the damage. Dry cleaning can't really help fabric scalds and bad hemming. No surprise.
- Now he refused to pay for the dress, saying that he already paid for the dry cleaning bill.
- Then he denied that he could see any damage on the dress.
- After the thirty minutes of FRUSTRATION, he said the only way he would pay for the dress is if I went and got my friends and brought them in to prove that other people could see the damage.
- When I refused to bother my friends when the damage was obvious, he said I would have to go to the dress shop (in San Francisco), get it in writing that the dress was damaged, then bring it back to him.
Re-visit #3:
- I was so frustrated with this guy that I actually did get take it back to the store. The seamstress at the wedding dress store actually gasped when she saw the dress, so I did get it in writing that it was damaged.
- I went back to the alterations store just for more stubborn retorts from his side, and no resolution.
I got no apologies, no honesty from this guy -- just denial, insults, frustration, a ruined dress, and a lot of wasted time.
