It's currently owned by the Boyd group and it's certainly gone through it's changes, but, it's old school Henderson and worth a visit.
What's it's charm and appeal? Mostly it's older than dirt. Oh and it's just a casino, no hotel is attached to it. How odd these days. But it's so full of local Henderson flavor you'll be glad you came to play some nickel slots.
So, my suggestion. Leave Vegas for an evening...cruise Water street and rediscover main street in a town that time didn't forget but remembers it's background.
This El Torito is a family creation that still sits on Boulder Hwy in Henderson on the way to Boulder City. The area that it lives in used to be surrounded by unique businesses. Such as Old Vegas, which was for the most part a Western Theme Park, the Nevada History Museum, and a Motel...I can't remember it's name but is resembled the Bate's Motel from Psycho.
Now most of those places are gone but El Torito still stands and is still family owned and operated. Some of the menu has changed and they've added some American fare, but the old recipes still exist and are worth a try. My favorite is still their Albondigas soup....which is a meatball soup with onions and other such vegetables in the broth, yum.
If you're passin' through Hendertucky on the way to Lake Mead, make sure you stop by and get a plate Taco's....it'll make your tummy smile.
Right before you hit Boulder City proper there's a tiny strip mall that houses a phenomenal brunch joint called Two Gals From Cal.
Where to start.....their omelets are awesome....try the Olive Oil ( Mushrooms, Spinach, and Swiss Cheese.) or my favorite the Bullet Proof Taco, which is basically a huge taco salad stuffed in a fried flour tortilla shell.......FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC!!!
It's outta the way but worth it. Make a day of it and visit B.C. there's lots to see, and I'll tell you all about it soon enough.

Opa Restaurant
Categories: Greek, Mediterranean
As I've stated in previous reviews....I HEART GREEK FOOD!!!! That, and the concept of Greek hospitality and family. You get a sense of that as soon as you are seated in OPA!
I had the lamb and a nice serving of these wonderfully seasoned baked potato wedges....MMMMMM, so good. My mouth is watering as I type.
Now for my other soap box......some places you go it seems the art of the cocktail is dead. What an odd concept in a town that probably pours the most spirits hourly in this hemisphere. However, the bartender at OPA! knows how to hand pour a perfect cocktail.
The two things that tends to be the glue of a fine dining establishment...great food and great drink. A wonderful experience. Highly recommended to anyone who loves Mediterranean recipes or any one ready for a new treat.

Silver Cactus Comics

I have yet to venture to the location on Rancho, but they seem pretty similar. Their .com has great pictures of both shops and lot's of pics of all the merchandise they carry. Very handy for those not sure what kinda toys and books they might or might not have.
This Comic Shoppe has everything that time forgot, plus knives. Yup, that's what I said....knives. Well, swords, daggers, some strange fist-quad-edge-warrior blade, and knives. ( I was told it's all a part of dress-up roll play.....I'm scared of that.)
It's also home to the Blood Moon Social Club, I wanna go. I like to think it's like AA with a bunch of vampires talking about kicking the habit of blood drinking, but, that's just me.
Kool Kollectables is rad for a hour or so to browse for comic and toys missing from your collection, and surrounded by the color of the Commercial Center it's must see.

Cosmic Comics
Categories: Comic Books, Bookstores
Yes,it's a comic book store, but, what i mean is.....they specialize in just books and back issues. Not so much with the actions figures and roll play like other stores.
It's kinda refreshing to walk into a store and have a solid idea of what they do there. And the guys that work there have knowledge and love to share it.
And to top it all off it's next door to Pinball City......all Pinball Machines all night. I'll review that soon.

The Soprano's Last Supper
Category: Performing Arts
However....the show starts and they make you watch this scene to introduce you to all the characters that are being lampooned from the show. It pulls you out of this great surrounding and then makes you watch a play....not too cool.
That being said, the actors a fun to talk to and play with. The food was kinda awesome. So, for interactive theater, the Soprano's wasn't half bad. Be prepared to get out of your chair alot, there's more dancing and involvement than Tony and Tina's.
My reply......"It's a Vegas staple."
Honestly, these day's P.T.'s is like Starbucks, there's one on every corner. It's the place you go when you wanna get a casual beer down the street from your house. Or the place to watch the game without the hassle of going to a sports book on the strip. It's Cheers, but in Vegas.
The Sahara location was right behind my apartment, I could hop the wall and be there in seconds. Honestly, when you just wanna hang out and let it all hang out this is the place....easy. Ain't nothing wrong with a giant iced and frothy mug of anything on tap. Why be picky at a P.T.'s.
SO....you don't wanna wait in line after getting all dressed up to go to a club? You don't wanna go to a sports bar buried in a casino? Look out your door and I bet there's a P.T.'s Pub within spitting distance. See you there.

I'm a huge fan of back issue hunting. And that's what I really like about Comic Oasis. Big long bins and hours of plastic bag flipping enjoyment. Sure they have all the accoutrement's of any other comic shop, but, to me the main attraction is the back issue bins.
It's interesting, clean, and easy to find stuff. That's what makes it such a joy to search for missing gems from my collection at Tim's. If you have holes in your Nerd-tastic Library, hit up Comic Oasis, i'm sure you'll find a few missing pieces.
