So...apparently the last time I came here I didn't like zins and I had a husband. I didn't like zins?! WTF?! Apparently I just didn't know what a good zin was. Shiraz on the other hand...I've tried many a "good" shiraz and I still think they suck.
Well, after visiting this place I decided I wanted to join the wine club. I went to their site and Emailed them about 5 times and never got a response. This time when I visited, I filled out the paper work in person. The cost/value on these people is off the charts.
I told the group of people I was with that this place was wonderful and they didn't disappoint. I hate it when I take people somewhere and everyone hates it. They're friendly, the wine is great and they just stand there and smile while you lecture them about never responding to your wine club inquiries. Definitely worth a stop.
We pulled off the road because my husband had to find out what a rock shop was... Yes, this tasting room is behind the Rock Stop Rock Shop...and it rocks! This was my favorite of all the wineries (although the winery is very small and located behind a rock shop).
The woman who helped us out was very friendly and helpful. She told me that the area is well known for pinot noir...which is not shocking because I had great pinot noir all day. This winery was no exception. I also got a really good pino gris.
The shocker of the day was the zin! Now...as far as I'm concerned there are exactly two things wrong with wine. They are (in this order) shiraz and red zin. This place had several zins to try which kind of made me sad but after I informed our illustrious hostess of this she suggested I try the 2002 zin (oh...why didn't I buy it all?)
It was GREAT! It was full bodied and wonderful...yeah, I shoulda bought more.
To me, this is just what wine tasting is all about. I want small, not widely distributed wines that make me cherish every sip because I know I'm not getting this exact same bottle of wine ever again.

This is a tasting room only and not on the same property as the winery. It's a small winery, and the people are very laid back and friendly. Anyone who thinks this place can be classified as shady must live in platinum bubble spun with Napa fairy dust. It is very low frills, but it's clean and the pourers are friendly.
Plus...it's right next to the Rock Stop Rock Shop AND the Mendocino Marijuana Museum. Bonus!!!
It's red-centric. If you like pinots and zins, you should definitely stop by and give it a try. A lot of the wines are in the $20-$30 range. I guess that's more expensive than Kirkland brand wine, and stuff.
