Maybe the worst old-fashioned I had in life...but overall the place is warm and the taxidermy display is pretty special. Also, I do not agree with the "good prices" comments below me....maybe $8 or $9 for a cocktail sounds good to you but for $10 each you can get killer craft beverages three blocks down at Bourbon&Branch...
Too bad Mr Lew's Win Win closed...those were good cocktails at a fair price.

I've developed serious cravings since I had Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore . Then a friend of mine posted a gorgeous pic of it from Hawker Fare...so, serious drool built up...
Came here exactly for that and got out with a mixed mouth.
Roti canai was very good but the chicken rice was not so special...
In fact, I could say it was just OK and we had both the boiled and the fried version. Definitely looking forward to going back and try other dishes.

And after one year....same quality, same price, same atmosphere, same deliciousness between two perfect slices of bread.
Tried the meatball banh mi and have to say it was somehow disappointing. They were steamed and made the whole sando soggy.
Plus, they break the golden rule of layering, which makes the combination banh mi so special...

Absolute perfection, including the ghetto atmosphere...
Bread, veggies, layering, price.
BEST combination pork banh mi ever, hands down.
I still have this song "Feliz Navidad" that a bunch of wrongly happy youngsters were singing on TV while we were eating there.

No words can really describe in full the goodness delivered at Dona Tere's shack. The pupusas are just fabulous and the touch of oregano in the curtido is just lovely. Tacos are hefty as well and honestly...eating a hefty meal for $5 is just unbeatable...
Sound family vibe running here: screw organic, local and sustainable. Dona Tere, you're my Slow Food hero....(and you saved my hangovers many times at night...kudos for that).

I'm not a cocktail guy but seeing my whisky sour being prepared with such meticulous attention was a delight. A delicious it was indeed.
Besides...most of the spirits are artisanal, they make their own bitters and you can tell there is a special alchemy within the glass.
Food looks amazing too (didn't grab a bite though) and the ingredients listed can make your mouth water on their own.
Decor is an absolute plus...and so is the hefty space between tables.
Plus it's so close to where I live... :P

For one split second I felt in Barcelona, no kidding....
The noises, the alley outside, the warmth, the food, the wine....
Eh, it felt warm, touched me...
And the food was just plain awesome....
Fideua negra was a major hit and so were the chipirones and the pulpo a la Gallega. All the wines we had were great and reasonably priced...
Just one note...what was that hint of ginger in the paella? WTF?
And the crusty bottom? Sad, but the paella was not an highlight....
All the rest...yes...now you know.

Eh, I'm a banh mi fanatic yes...and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of grilled meats. I got the "juicy steak" banh mi.
Amazing how such a simple sandwich can get so many variations but hey, that's fun! So, pickles are great and thick with nice texture, bread is just right (with a nice crunch and soft bite) and the overall quality of ingredients sets it way above the bar in the city.
Too bad for the price point...but hey, that's the rent on Fillmore St.

Besides: THE COOOKIES!
OMG, the chocolate/coconut cookies!
COOKIE, COOKIE, COOKIE!
so good...

God I love this relaxing bar...
Sometimes it's noisy and crowded, yes, but when it cools down it has such a British appeal...calming to me.
Definitely perfect on a Monday night with a couple of friends.
