Very solid Porchetta sandwich, crispy bun, salsa verde - $8, can't go wrong. Go here, don't look back.

The best coffee in Vancouver in my opinion (yes, better than 49th Parallel, JJ Bean and Artigiano)  They make great single-origin coffee on the Clover and perfect espresso drinks, the shorter of which are served with a glass of sparkling water (a nice touch). They also bring in 3 coffees per week from Intelligensia and/or 49th Parallel, which are well chosen and have their own espresso blend (roasted by 49th Parallel) as well as Intelligensia's BlackCat espresso. The attention to quality and detail sets this place apart. I hope it helps raise the bar for other indie coffee shops

Solid thai food and well-priced. A good go-to in the main street area. I've only taken out, but never been disappointed.

Beautiful room with a lovely buzz about it. Stopped in for a few cask ales (which were excellent) and moved in for dinner. You'll notice it's a very meat-forward menu. I had the Bibb lettuce salad with bottarga to start and we all shared a breaded and fried braised lamb with a chili vinaigrette. Both were excellent. As a main, I had a very light veal stew with fresh peas and white wine. It was exactly what you'd expect to eat in Alsace, or country gastropub in spring, light, but satisfying. We tried the thrice cooked fries as well, which hit the spot. The folks with me had the sweetbreads and the lamb burger and enjoyed them.

For dessert, I tried the chocolate stout syllabub with creme fraiche. It was good, but maybe a bit too much to follow for me. I did like the fact that it wasn't too sweet.

The table beside us ordered a whole suckling pig ahead of time (I hear they need a week's notice). It looked primal and delicious and was devoured by the 6 women and two men. I'll upload the photo shortly.

Overall, a great place for a drink and a bite if you're in the area.

Amongst the best coffee in NYC and a great spot if you're near the WTC site. Nice single origin coffees on the Clover, delicious espresso drinks. Food selection is limited, but their pre-buttered and jam biscuits were fantastic. Cash preferred for small orders.

Unbelievable doughnuts, highly recommended to pair with your Zoka's coffee (across the street).

Tavolata

Was excited to eat at Tavolata and stopped in for a quick bite. The grilled octopus appetizer was excellent. I was sorely disappointed with the main course (recommended by the waiter) fresh spaghetti with anchovies, chili and garlic, as it came out of the kitchen covered in cheese (i.e. cheese should never touch seafood pasta). The waiter understood, explained that they used to serve it with fried breadcrumbs (traditional), but the patrons complained...sigh. The other pastas and mains did look great and the wines by the glass were also excellent.

Anyway, I understand the challenges that these restaurants face, with patrons who think that pasta should come with a side meatballs and be covered in cheese, but offer cheese on the side of your seafood pastas if you feel it might be ordered by a traditionalist.

I expected more from Tavolata, but will try Stowell's other restaurants.

Stopped in for a nice, quiet lunch - chargrilled salmon as a main and ravioli with sage butter as a starter. Both were excellent. They had a nice lunch special for 2 or 3 courses, which made it more reasonable. The dinner menu looked spendy, but the food was well worth it.

The 5 GBP espresso was my only complaint (not the espresso but the price :O).

Had a few very good lunches and dinners at this gastropub. It has great ambience and is good for a casual dinner or to go watch a game and have a pint or glass of wine. The food was local, organic and well prepared. Their desserts were nice as well. To top it off, Clint Eastwood was having a pint at the bar one of the evenings we were there. I agree it's one of the better gastropubs and reasonably priced. Recommended for lunch and dinner.

Took the fried chicken to go - it was great. Need to go back for a deeper dive into the menu.
