on a non sequiturial, sartorial note- the need to determine the color of brian h.'s jacket is impending.

today the main agenda outside was raw turmeric and bitter melon.
and so a little bit'o multiple choice QUIZ
turmeric can be used to repel
a. ants
b. pigeons
c. laughing hyenas
d. panhandlers
turmeric is a
a. a sassy freshwater redundant pearl
b. bark from a budweiser tree
c. bbq'd ostrich elbows
d. a rhizome
turmeric is often used as
a. a recreational drug
b. to make yellow colored finger paints
c. sneezing powder
d. to make foodies weep with joy when they eat curry.
turmeric is also used in
a. aromatherapy
b. for even cowgirls when they get the blues
c. for odd cowboys when they get the news
d. for cobra antivenin
apparently turmeric is used for everything from a to z including as a depilatory, food colorant, as an antibacterial agent, in various religious rituals, as a spice, and it is also being used in medical research for the possibility of it being useful for stomach problems , alzheimers and pancreatic cancer.
as for the warty and homely looking bitter melon, that's another story for another day- just 2 tips, don't eat it when it's too ripe, because the riper it gets, the more bitter it becomes and the red arils can be toxic for kiddies and kiddies in utero.

-everyblock provides a quick instagrat way to get the scoop on your nabe.
-everyblock provides information about building permits granted or not granted and building violations-(not always up to date alas, however the information they receive is from the governmentcrats and thus, they are at the mercy of red tape et al.)
-police precinct crime stats a bit better- but why are 3 weeks missing in september, 2009, curious post election minds want to know!
-restaurant inspections- pink is very very very bad and green is less bad and the infractions can be seen as well. i try not to look too often.

then a gloomy cloud settled over the apathetic countenance of the counterproductive counterman. i inquired about the bread pudding that was neatly ensconced in a cellophane wrapper with the following label:
LASSEN & HENNINGS
Bread Pudding
SELL BY : 11/21/09
QNT/QTY UNIT PRICE TOTAL PRICE
1 $1.50 $1.50
innocently, i asked if it was plain bread pudding, ( the middle unlucky has life threatening allergies), and there were NO ingredients listed, which in a bakery/ deli is not surprising, however, his response to my question was simply unacceptable. "i don't know, i don't make them."
(please refer to the above label)
if it has your name on it, and you sell it, it would behoove you to know.
DUH! DUH! DUH!
still i purchased the bread pudding, et al. and the cashier was very nice.
cake 4 stars
sparkling charming little store 5 stars
cinnamon "lady fingers" were burly and twinkie shaped-not lady-like at all and tasted like a drake's cake 2.5 stars
bread pudding 3.5 stars and those w/ allergies beware NUT ALERT!
counterproductive man 0, ZERO, no stars.

one year i found beautiful paper, hand printed. it looked like a wood cut print and paper robes and slippers. i used this paper as gift wrap for birthday presents, not knowing that this, in particular, was something used to honor the dearly departed. big ironic OOPS!
p.s. everyone NEEDS a great wall of china clock.
baked is decidedly not a 1/2 baked idea!
it is small, cute and the coffee is reasonably good.
tasty treats i've demolished:
pumpkin whoopie pie - i think it's my favorite, rich, great texture, not too sweet!
rosemary-apricot bar- interesting, nice texture, nice tang to the apricot.
chocolate cloud cookie- fantastic texture, similar to the hard to procure brownies i like, rich chocolate taste, and i hate to quibble but a smidgeon too sweet.

as previously reported, by my cyber daughter lisa a., we met up and traveled on the stylish b67. traveling with her is always a great way to start off the evening! we walked into barry manilow who shapeshifted into david bowie. and so many of the wonderful usual suspects, si si! it was great to catch up with many yelpers i hadn't seen for awhile, in eons and to meet others i had never met irl!
the highlights of the evening not necessarily in that order:
pinching peter d.'s cheeks
catching up
a moderate amount of jameson
nabbing a yelp lunchbox
gabbing with the ultimate yelp lunchbox protector senor huesos
silly antics in general with old yelp friends
cupcakes
making new friends
making fun of chun
purloining a tres leches doughnut from roderick to take home to mr. unlucky*
hanging out with my irl daughter and stealing most of her drink-
(apparently i should have taken more)
dancing on the pool table
and permission was granted to call carlos, carlitos.
what more could a person ask for?
a big thank you to our lovely cms! as usual you throw a devastatingly good party!
*mr. unlucky thanks roderick for the scrumptious doughnut!
