I'm not a drinker but they made the Chocolate Stout Float sound really good. The burger (can't remember the name but it wasn't the lamb burger) my boyfriend ordered was insanely good with caramelized onions on a great soft roll.

I also ordered Fried Chicken - which, yes, is fried chicken, but when I hear "fried chicken" I usually think of meat on the bone, these were more like chicken nuggets - still good and still chicken that has been friend but a little misleading when labeled as "fried chicken". The bed of fries it came on was delicious too.

The atmosphere is nice, dim, kind of like a pub but there are TVs everywhere which to me says "sports bar". Large selection of beers. Not too crowded but still busy for a Wednesday night downtown in the business/financial dist. Not sure if it's like this all the time but they play music that I really enjoy (The Cars, Depeche Mode, Blondie, Devo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

Lemonade

Ah, It's so refreshing to see something new enter the downtown eatery market! I'm mostly giving them four stars based on their baked goods section. For months and months I've been talking to coworkers saying that  it's a shame there are no good cupcake places downtown (do NOT say Mrs. Beasley's - ew) and then magically one appears! And when I say "appears" I mean they finally take the paper down from the glass walls to reveal what is inside!

They have a pretty good selection of baked sugary crap, which is the best kind of crap. The sweets menu usually includes cupcakes (carrot and something else?), single serving chocolate cake, chocolate tart thing, coconut cakey thing. As you can see I've totally memorized their names.

They also make different kinds of lemonade (regular, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry).

The food is pretty good too. I rather enjoy the orza pilaf thing they have going on and the mac and cheese was surprisingly delish.

MB2 Raceway

I forgot to review this place when I went last year. So one morning my friend was like "Wanna go high speed go kart racing?" and I thought, "Well I've never been go kart racing before so why not go balls out if I'm going for the first time." I went. I raced. I sucked.

But this isn't about me, it's about MB2. Its a little intimidating if you've never been before. I mean there's all these kids around who totally know what they're doing and how they are supposed to do it but if you go up to the counter and ask the staff "What the hell do I do?" They'll explain it all.

Basically you want to go with a bunch of friends, the more of you the better cause then you can have the whole track to your selves. Unfortunately there is only one track, like I said I've never been racing before so I don't know if this is a common thing or if there are usually more tracks. I don't like waiting but fortunately they have nice couches where you can sit and watch the race or an air hockey thing.

It seemed a little expensive but I was broke at the time. However looking back on it, I'd pay $26 for fun any day. At the end of the race they give you a print out of how well you did, or if you're like me, they give you an analog reminder of how bad you suck at pretend racing. Then you get back in your real car and think "dude, I can totally drive. WTF?" and you have to keep yourself from wanting to drive really fast again.

By the by, this ain't bumper cars, so don't think you can get out there and just run into your friends, cause you caint!

One of my favorite new places.

1. They serve waffles, all the time! Don't tell me that isn't great.  It's good for any occasion! Get the sticky bun waffles. They're super sweet, just how I like 'em.

1. They have some good vegetarian/vegan options. There's an amazing vegan chili ("vegan bowl of red") that I highly recommend. They apparently use this soy protein "stuff" that has the texture of ground meat. It's pretty damn good.

1. I always end up ordering more than I can possibly finish then taking the rest home.

2. Their staff is quite attractive, you know, if eating good food isn't your thing.

The parking sitch kinda sucks, but it's only a few blocks away from a metro station, I think we can all stand to walk a little bit. Plus, it's close to the Arclight so you can go there before or after your movie date. PLUS if you're drunk and in heels, you can't tell that your feet hurt anyway!

Indian food, it is not... BUT it has become the new lunch place at our office because

1. although it's not reaaally Indian food, it's still pretty good

2. they're new, meaning they have not yet become jaded, meaning everyone who works there is still super friendly

3. they're new. In this case that means there is finally  some semblance of Indian food near my work. That's a good thing, next we need a good Thai place.

Areas of improvement include pricing (everyone is telling the truth, it's a little expensive for lunch) and the menu (there's about three items... w00t?). However, they have this thing where you can get two samosas for  about $3 and everyone knows somosas are heaven.

I have hope for this little eatery. I'm praying the selection diversifies and they don't start watering down the curries.

OK, they've made some improvements. They now have chickpeas in their Channa Masala and tofu in their Tikka Masala, which is cool because some vegetarians don't like tofu. Unheard of, right? Anyway I do think this is one of the better lunch options now. The staff is always friendly and they always give you so much food.

Nowadays my only complaint is that the boxes aren't very environmentally friendly, but to be fair, hardly anyone's is downtown. That's something I'd like to see them work on though. :)

Barragan's Mexican Restaurant

Dude, if you ever wondered where the hipsters are when they aren't at The Echo, The Echoplex, The Cat and Fiddle, etc. THEY ARE ALL HERE. F**king serious.

hipters:barragans :: rats:sewer

Went there last night for the first time with some friends and "some people watching" (that's what they told me). We sprinted up to the rooftop smoking lounge (which was freezing by the way) at around 8:40 and made our way back out by 10:30. I was kind of in awe at how many oddly dressed, bearded, skinny, unkept people could be crammed into this three floored place.

So I heard the margaritas are good n cheap, like they should be (I wouldn't know, I can't drink). I also heard that they don't have very good food although they DO serve fried ice cream! How could you go wrong with that? I had some of the nachos, which I would give a C+. The plus is because it comes with guacamole and sour cream, which, believe it or not, some places charge extra for. I know right?! WTF mate?

All in all, you come here to hang out, not eat dinner.

I just stayed here this past weekend and it was great. Maybe it was the people I was with but I had a great time and will definitely think of staying at WorldMark again. I loved the cute look of the place: the red wood exteriors with roofs covered in snow was reminiscent of a small country town from some heartwarming Christmas movie

The kitchen has all the right stuff, well more than I expected anyway. Unfortunately none of their pans were non-stick... which makes it difficult to cook hash browns. It was a pleasant surprise. There's a washer/dryer in the unit which is way helpful. They even give you a bit of detergent... but you'll probably want to buy your own cause there is enough for maybe one load.

So in conclusion, I'd want to do THAT again.

Sandwich Shop

So my coworker and I avoided this place like crazy for the longest time. We even mocked it every time we passed by. It's so plain! And it's called The Sandwich Shop... uhm, DUH? Way to be obvious. Anyway they had signs in the window that said "free coffee!" and free this and that. We were thinking they were super desperate to get people in, which they might have been since they just opened and didn't look particularly interesting.

Anyway word was going around the office about "this awesome sandwich place." I thought "No way, really?" So I gave it a chance and went there for lunch this week. The main staple is sandwiches though they do offer salads and breakfast items (only at breakfast time, unfortunately). Surprisingly  it's quite pleasant in there and the sandwiches are excellent.

I would suggest the Three Cheese, French Onion, or Croque Monsieur. Anyway, don't judge a restaurant by it's cover, cause this one is grood.

things to note: sometimes (most of the time) it's uncomfortably warm in there. maybe it's from the kitchen? or maybe they're all cold blooded. They close at 4 so if you're at the office late and want a sammich you are S.O.L.  They do take credit cards.

Virgin America

Yeah, LOVE it.

I've flown Virgin America twice now and have had pleasant experiences both times. Granted both of those were one hour flights from Los Angeles to San Francisco but that adds up to four whole hours of in flight time!

I'm curious as to how many hook-ups the in flight chat feature will lead to in the future. I can see it being very popular once people start utilizing it.

Pros:
1. safety video eliminates the need to pretend to watch the flight attendants while they perform those safety procedure "things", plus it's amusing because they have animated hipster types. Obviously they know their target demo.
2. no matter how loud your headphones are, when the pilots cut in on the P.A. it doesn't deafen you to... death. I hate that.
3. the cabin lights won't give you a headache
4. the pilots/flight attendants don't try to make jokes (god, I hate Southwest)

Cons:
1. just cause the plane is cute and Loveboat-y doesn't mean there will be anyone cute on your flight
2. some people don't understand that the touch screen in front of them is actually the back of your seat and they needn't press so hard.
3. their free headphones suck but that's true with all airlines. They should offer ones that you can pay for which are actually of  good quality and you won't end up throwing away every time you fly. That would be more environmentally conscious.

Dim Sum Bar - CLOSED

Neighborhood: Civic Center/Tenderloin

eh, its not bad... not GOOD either. It's okay if you want to have some dim sum dumplings fast and at any time of the week (not just saturday and sunday morning). I had the fried wontons and the 12 piece dim sum sampler EXTRAVAGANZA!

BBQ Pork wontons were new, never tried that before. The meat was okay but why does every restaurant use the same won ton wrappers to make eggrolls and wontons? They're always thick and hard to chew! Why take the fun out of fried foods? Why?!

Anyway, the swoy gao (if you can figure out what I'm trying to spell out phonetically, you get 10 pts) was actually pretty good, although I think it's because they used pork AND shrimp in them.

I'd probably go back because I'm a sucker for dim sum at times when you're not supposed to have dim sum. I will not be getting the wontons again though.
